I stayed in this beautiful place with my friends & must say the stay was the most relaxing.
The landlady was very hospitable.
I am a vegetarian & she also cooked vegetarian food for us. The breakfast was great.

Our small travel group decided to visit France again this year to celebrate the birthday of one of the group. This time it was agreed we would experience another different type of Chateau, having visited several over the years, ranging from the typical Disney World type with lots of spires to the solid sandstone built buildings of the last century. This time we chose to visit Chateau de Corcelette,17 Rue Cesa Parent, Lannoy, near to Lille.

We took the Eurotunnel as our means of getting across the Channel and Lannoy is about 2 hours from Calais.

We had the assistance of a Sat Nav because from previous reviews I had noticed that visitors had commented about how difficult it was to find the Chateau.

Having travelled across country, we arrived at Lannoy which we found is actually described by local people as a City! The Sat Nav took us to within a stones throw of the Chateau and then got a little confused. One normaly imagines a Chateas to be set in large grounds and situated on the outskirts of a town/village. Chateau de Courcelette does not fit into that scenario.

The Chateau itself lies within the urban area of the City. It does have some grounds which were a pleasure to walk round, but are not enormous in area.

The history of the Chateau goes back some three hundred years plus and a picture in the hallway shows it in all its glory alongside a massive moat which disappeared long ago.

We were welcomed by the owners of the Chateau, Monsieur and Madame Brame. They immediately made us feel very welcome and showed us to our bedrooms which are on the first floor, access to which is gained by a winding steepish staircase.

You get a sense of age of the building as soon as you walk through the front door. However, there is non of the musty smells which we have experienced in other such old places. This was a beautifully maintained house which has obviously had a large amount of care and attention given to its maintenance (and I suspect a lot of Euros as well!).

We were shown the breakfast room which is on the first floor at the end of the of the corridor along which the bedrooms are situated.

The owners pointed out where tea/coffee making facilities were available. The was a fridge stocked with bottled water and other drinks all of which were for use of residents at no extra cost. There was a sink and cooking facilities if anyone wanted them.

We were asked what time we wanted breakfast as all guests breakfast at the same table.Madame Brame actually attends at breakfast and makes sure guest have everything they want. The breakfast was continental and was totaly adequate with fresh bread, croissants, cakes and a selection of cheeses/hams and cereals.

The bedrooms were exquisite. Large, with very high ceilings with large windows which allowed views over the gardens. The bed was huge and so comfortable. The decorations were tasteful and of very high standard and the bathrom was of equally high standard. Everywhere was very clean . Quietness was in abundance!

What was different about this venue was the fact that all guests interacted with other guests. At breakfast, other guests were sitting at the same table or an adjoining table and everyone engaged in conversation as to where they were off to for the day or where they had been.

Monsieur and Madame Brame were the perfect hosts throughout and made everyone feel very much at home and treated as somebody special.

When it came to arranging to return to the chateau after an evening out, guests are given the entry code to gain access through the front door.

It caused much mirth to see hand written notes pinned to the balestrade asking guests to make sure they turned all the lights out in the hall before going to their rooms.

Advice was given by the Brames as to where to eat and visit. Separate reviews will be done on some of the eating hosues visited.Every recommendation given proved to be first class.

All to soon it was time to leave on the journey home via Arras.Payment for our stay was in cash as the Brames don't have credit card facilities.Something to be aware of.

The Brames were there to wish us a safe journey and the feeling was one of leaving long known friends.

Quite extraordinary really.

Room Tip: There are only five bedrooms all of which are on the first floor.

We booked for three nights (Tues-Thurs) to see Lille, thinking it would be easy to get in and to eat locally. With no GPS and not having asked directions from Mme Brame, finding Lannoy was difficult, also the chateau within Lannoy. It is an elegant old house, comfortable, with a big walled garden, amid an ordinary outer suburb. We had to drive 4 miles to the tramway (better than metro we were told) for a 25 min. trip to Lille (one euro 40, easy free parking). We had to drive 3 or 5 miles for a restaurant, both in farms and in Belgiium, and excellent. At weekends we might have eaten locally. We had hoped for less use of the car in unfamiliar areas, often with roadworks and in the dark.. We found the breakfasts a bit thin. Mme Brame was very friendly and helpful.

Last fall, we stayed four nights at the Chateau. The Chateau is located in the small town of Lannoy which is well-positioned, affording easy access to the major road system for visits to Lille and other nearby towns including Arras, Tournai, and the walled town of Bergues. It is also convenient for accessing the subway into Lille, which is preferable to driving into Lille. The Chateau is well-maintained, spotless, and quiet with well-appointed rooms, an expansive enclosed back lawn, easy parking, and excellent breakfasts. The owners, Catherine and Philippe Brame, are welcoming and gracious hosts. Both speak excellent English. Our room was enormous and well-furnished, with an excellent modern en suite bathroom. They gave us personal attention such as taking us on the subway into Lille for the famous annual Flea Market/Antiques Fair. The highway system around Lille is complex, which can make getting to Lannoy a challenge. If you do not have a GPS, we strongly recommend that you call or email Catherine to obtain explicit directions from the highway to the Chateau. When we return to the Lille area, we will most certainly stay at the Chateau.

Not easy to find, as the chateau is in a tiny street in the centre of the town. but well worth the effort. This is a truly amazing authentic chateau which backs on to a very large and peaceful garden -that gives you secure parking.
We stayed in the Directoire room which was airy and elegant; the ensuite , though adequate was just a bit basic.
Breakfast is served in the dining-room, cum kitchen, cum landing
(not ideal), still we enjoyed sharing it with the other visitors round a large round table, Good opportunity to share tips on what to do in the area. The converations were made easy by the cheerfulness of the owner. This bubbly lady knows how to make you feel at home au chateau.
As a base to tour the region, the Chateau de Courcelette is a more charming and personal alternative to standardised hotels.
