Owner description: Cueva Ventana means Window Cave. Take a hike to and through this cave (bring a flashlight!) for a view that is out of this world.

You could tell that the staff was very passionate about preserving the authenticity of the cave. He took us through an additional cave that is not really part of the tour and explained the formation of the caves and the resident wildlife, at length. It was sad to see some graffiti here and there though!

I've been to one or two caves which were kind of Disneylike attractions. We wanted to experience a Puerto Rico cave and the closest a cave which required repelling and swimming or Cueva Ventana. We were pleased that we chose the latter. The cave itself is not a huge one -- maybe 120 yards deep but, it had all the necessary things to see: Bats (several varieties), Petraglyps (not a real good speller I'm afraid) and a beautiful "window" overlooking a stunning valley. We had a private guide (it was a slow day) who was knowledgable and articulate. And, the price was right!! Overall, a good experience.

I did check that there were bathroom facilities but, they were portapotties.

This place is not frequented by tourists because it is not near the major destinations like Fajardo & San Juan. But Id urge visitors to add this to their itinerary. The view from this place is fantastic, and if you are a photo enthusiast, the shots you can capture are amazing.

Even though I pass by Cueva Ventana frequently on route to visit my mother in law, I had not visited. We visited last weekend on the Friday after Thanksgiving and it was a great experience. It used to be free and now there is a fee- but I believe it is worth the price and I understand that it will ensure that the environment is better protected. The view is beautiful. It is important to note the need to have the proper shoes and that it does require some level of physical ability to get to Cueva Ventana. The Biologist guide tour also did a good job of explaining - in Spanish and English and did a Wonderful job of recognizing the kids who followed rules. Being able to see the bats was awesome! I recommend this visit, though I am sure that people used to serious hiking or cave viewing might not find it too exhilarating! The view from Cueva Ventana is beautiful, though!!!

During our stay in Puerto Rico we drove by rental car to Arecibo and visited the Cueva on our way to Ponce. Coming up the hill we missed the petrol station at the left and after a U-turn we were able to park in front of the entrance. We paid and walked up the stairs. At the top of the first bit we received our helmets and a torch.

It was a short and easy walk, the most strenuous was the humidity which we are not used to. At the entrance to the cueva we were handed over to the next guide who explained us nature and origin.

We really liked this place and also learnt a lot about the local trees and plants.
