The view from the lighthouse is absolutely stunning. The kids loved exploring the lighthouse, the replica of old Spanish ships, and the "cave" with various critters and treasure. The folks working at the lighthouse grounds were very friendly and bi-lingual. This is definitely worth visiting and after your visit, take your lunch and go to the beach below and enjoy.

The Arecibo Lighthouse is a good place for kids to learn a little bit about Puerto Rico history. It has a great ocean view among a few other interesting things to see…. But the place needs some improvement and care; especially for the safety of the kids.

We went in the summer 2012, and took one of our senior yorkies with us. They let us take him into the park, but we held him the whole time. There are fun activities and displays for kids of all ages and the view from the light house is amazing. Be warned, theres a lot of walking involved, most up hill, so be prepared. There is ample parking but you have to pay. They do offer a military discount, so don't forget to ask. Quick bites are available at the pavilion, hot dogs, burgers, fries etc, also bathrooms, which are surprisingly clean. Very fun, I would go again.

Visited in March 2012 as a solo traveler. I arrived before noon on a weekday, which I would recommend as the sun gets hot! However, there is an infrequent ocean breeze.

I agree with other posts, that this would be much better WITH kids as there is a small petting zoo (half of the animals were not out when I visited, as it was under construction) and play/gross motor areas. The small aquarium was rather unexpected & neat, even for this 28-year-old.

The walk up to the lighthouse was easy & on a smooth, paved incline. Atop offered beautiful ocean views and some of Arecibo. Inside the lighthouse were a few artifacts from Puerto Rico's colonial days which was a pleasant surprise too. The lighthouse is rather small though & nothing like the ones on the USA's east coast so keep things in perspective.

My only complaint: there is a fee for parking, (in a decent sized lot) which I think is ridiculous considering you pay entry too.

We didn't go in, only saw it from outside. But the view of the Arecibo beach is beautiful and the lighthouse looks to be in great conditions, well maintained and the grounds neat and clean. It looks beautiful from every angle we saw it.
