We stayed 2 nights in 2 lodges located side by side. Everything about our stay was better than we could have hoped for. The friendly greeting on arrival, the stunning setting of the lodges and the helpfulness of all the staff.
We opted to eat from the set menu on the first night and sat at a huge table with the majority of the other guests. Great way to get some tips from fellow travellers. You can of course opt to dine at your own table also.

The food was fantastic!

The hotel baked a chocolate cake (possible the best we ever tasted!) and all the staff sang Happy Birthday to celebrate my fathers birthday the following day. He will never forget the experience.

We had a couple of nights here during our trip along the Garden Route, and found it very relaxing. The service, cleanliness and food quality are all excellent. It's situated about 10 miles from Plettenburg Bay, and is (steep) walking distance through the forest to Monkeyland, Birds of Eden and the elephant sanctuary (monkeys definitely recommended). The staff will come and collect you if you don't fancy the hike back. There's horse riding nearby and plenty of other activities in the area. Our room had a balcony overlooking the forest and felt private and secluded. It was spotlessly clean throughout our stay. There is no air con which could be an issue for some. Breakfast was delicious and well presented. The first evening we ate at Enrico's, also recommended (see review). We ate at Hog Hollow on our second evening, and found the food to be excellent and well worth it. It is a communal table with other guests, but you can request individual tables as well. All in all, it was a very relaxing and enjoyable stay, definitely recommended.

This was one of the best stays we had in South Africa (where most were very good anyway). This 'hotel' is a collection of lodges set in the hillside each with its own verandah and a feeling of being pleasantly secluded. The lodges are of wooden construction and are two accommodations side by side, but arranged so that the occupants of one don't see those of the other.

These lodges are accessible via block-paved pathways, pleasantly lit at night, and there is a main lodge where food is served and a there is a very good sized swimming pool lower down the hill. The atmosphere is extremely restful in its leafy green setting, and the extremely welcoming staff and owners put us completely at ease from the first moment.

The lodge has a small lounge area with a view through the huge folding doors out across the hills, and with the doors open the lounge and verandah together create a large and open area for relaxation. Through the living room area is the bedroom, and behind that the closets and storage for cases and the bathroom. It was all very pleasant, and my only complaint is that these lodges are not fitted with air conditioning, only an ineffectual air-stirrer on the ceiling. This is a significant omission in my opinion. At night the windows need to be closed to try to keep the insects out and so the room becomes stuffy. We were there at the end of the season … I have no idea how guests cope in the hot summer. We were lent a fan (a huge industrial sized thing) that made it possible for me to sleep, but in my opinion the management really need to install aircon. Other than that, everything else was pretty much perfect.

In the evening a brazier with blazing logs, suspended under a canvas roof, forms the centrepiece for the guests to gather and have a complimentary canape with an evening drink. It's all very civilised and one can't help but strike up conversation with others, which usually leads to good conversation and an interesting exchange of experiences of South Africa.

WiFi Internet access is available at the main lodge and is free, but the signal doesn't extend as far as the individual lodges. Speed was good and we were able to download the Times newspaper every morning and I could upload the day's photos to Dropbox each evening for our family to see.

The food here was very good. We don't eat meat or shellfish so we are sometimes a bit of a challenge to hotels but the fare on offer to us was imaginative and tasty. You can eat at your own table if you wish but it's fun to join the large table where most of the other guests eat together. You can peruse the menu at any time during the day and then you need to make your choice by 4:30 pm.

What makes this place really special is the genuine warmth and helpfulness of the owners and the staff. Every one of them is welcoming, friendly and informative. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived, almost as if we were old friends returning. The management goes out if its way to assist, advise and inform us of what is available in the area. Some attractions are within walking distance (albeit through hills and countryside) and the hotel will arrange to collect you when you are ready (at no charge).

We only stayed here for two nights and regretted that we hand't planned to stay longer (and cut out a previous stay near Knysna that wasn't anywhere near as pleasant and restful and welcoming as this).

If we ever return to South Africa and decide to revisit the Garden Route, Hog Hollow will definitely be on our list for a longer stay.

We spent two days at the hotel. Would love to go back and spend more time enjoying the rooms, the pool, the food and the atmosphere. We were welcomed on arrival with a glass of fizz which was a nice touch. The food was excellent and the attention to detail was impressive too.

This place was a superb way to finish our stay in South Africa. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel part of a very large family that cared for all its members. The lodges are so well hidden in the grounds that it is impossible to see anyone else's when you are in your own even when sitting on the veranda. Each is extremely spacious and very well appointed and the level of service from the housekeeping team has to be experienced to be believed!
Breakfast was either continental or cooked, however the choice on the continental was vast! Every morning brought new surprises from the chef.
Evening meals can be taken at a very large shared table with other guests, OR, at a table for 2 or 4 or 6 NOTHING is too much trouble for your hosts who go out of their way to ensure that everyone has a superb holiday experience. Their level of knowledge of the locality is brilliant and they will print of maps and information for you as well as assist with practical advice.
The swimming pool, on a deck below the main restaurant level, is actually long enough to have a good swim and facilities in the pool area are just as good as in the rest of the facility with full service available if required.
We will definitely be returning!!!

This was our second visit in two years and our 4 day stay was again memorable. The staff are excellent - friendly, helpful and professional. Breakfasts are wonderful even allowing for the visit of local monkeys! Evenings on the patio by the log fire are always a feature. Our rooms had magnificent views and only if we were being very "picky" would we say that bed linen needed renewing. Everything spotlessly clean.
