If you do not want to ride the Blue Ridge Pkwy. for those breathtaking views just take a few minutes and ride to Jump Off Rock in Hendersonville NC. Just 5 minutes from downtown this offers you breath taking views of the Smokey Mountains looking directly across at Pisqah Mt. Lovely at sunset

Jump off rock,as many similar locations, has a history of love jumping to enternity. On a good day, normally spring or fall, you have a spectacular view that makes the trip worthwile. Personally, I also like it in the winter although, depending on the weather, it can be iffy. They call this area the Smoky Mountains for a reason. During Summer, the deciduous trees release alot of moisture which, in turn, can produce an inpenetrable haze limiting what you can see. There are numerous jump off places to visit in the appalachians. Summer is not really the best time to appreciate them. Given the multitute of choices I cannot honeatly rate Jump off rock very high. On the other hand, I visited it quite often when I lived in Hendersonville as a place to clear my mind and view nature. Unlike the more spectacular sites there were seldom a lot of people and it was a serene place to go. I have not been in awhile so it may have become a bigger nattraction. In that case, in my opinion, it would lose its uniqueness.

As I write this, the picture to the left is of Chimney Rock in nearby Lake Lure. I hear it is nice, but I have not visited it. ....Jump Off Rock is at Laurel Park. Jump Off Rock is a little hard to find and not worth the trip as the view is nothing like Chimney Rock; but it is free.

Photo is showing Chimney Rock Park in Lake Lure, NC - NOT Jump Off Rock at Laurel Park, NC

Have been to both. No comparison. Jump Off Rock has nice views and nice drive to top of mountain.

Chimney Rock Park is side of mountain with trails, etc. Views of Lake Lure. Awesome, but trails are on side of mountain through rocks. Not for very young children.

I haven't visited either in a few years. The options below don't give enough choices.
