We initially booked into the old heritage part of the hotel, but although comfortable the room was quite small and we upgraded to a room in modern part of the hotel, spacious and with a large bathroom.
Food in the hotel was excellent at times and always good. Breakfast could be had on a sunny terrace outside the dining room.
Staff were friendly and helpful. There is a 1930s style bar and lounge in the heritage section, lots of character in that part.
The hotel is set well back from the road within pleasant gardens. There is a tennis court and a swimming pool (not in use when we stayed).
This is one I would certainly go back to.

My two nights at the Taragarh Palace were a real highlight of my first trip to India. From the moment we arrived and were greeted by Rishi with welcome scarves to the moment we left with the whole staff waving us off, we were made to feel welcomed and valued guests. Nothing was too much trouble for the incredibly helpful staff. The food was the best we had anywhere. The packed lunch they prepared on our departure was excellent too. The grounds are an oasis of calm with green parakeets drinking from the fountain and the polo horses taking their morning exercise on the field behind the new wing while the morning sun lit the snow-capped mountais beyond. It sounds idyllic and it is.The evening bonfire was fun and personalised the stay in a way that no chain hotel ever could. The bedrooms were not warm admittedly, but the electric blankets helped a lot. Next time I would try April or May. I really hope there will be a next time as Taragarh is one of my most special memories from an altogether special trip. Highly recommended.

Located in the green countryside of the Kangra valley, this former summer residence of the Nabab of Bahawalpur is an excellent place to rest and enjoy nature. Make sure to have some kind of transport available, as the location is quite isolated.
We stayed in the new wing, which provides huge airy rooms, though the heating is an issue in winter. The heritage wing looks good too, but the rooms are smaller. Atmospheric bar, one would expect the Nabab to show up from some time warp. Large grounds with lots of greenery, actually some pruning would make these look even better.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with views on the snow capped mountains

I have no words to describe my visit. Starting from my entrance till the time i checked out, i was being treated as a God.. Lush green property with peace, nice staff and amazing food, I dont think that anyone needs anything else. Staff is so good. Special thanks to Anand Ji, Ankush, Rohan(he played such nice guitar for me and my group.

Really owe my thanks to every member of Taragarh Fraternity.

A promise to visit this property again.

Sincerely,
Monish

Room Tip: Choose the new wing room. They are newly built.

One of the most peaceful retreats in the country high on history. Rooms are divided in two wings - heritage (deluxe) and new (super deluxe). Heritage rooms are undergoing certain refurbishments. The bar was closed for a short period due to unavoidable reasons but it is fully operational now with its blue chandelier in blue saphire room and the red chandelier in other. The food quality, variety and service is something that will install a feeling of being attached to them! Swimming Pool is impressive. Bonfire in winters with a live musician. Wifi in common area.
Its definitely not the walk-in type hotel where you can expect to be treated with professional check-in services. Rather, its more like a huge private estate where if your booking is pre-reserved then all arrangements will be made to give you a warm welcome. Since its huge, it could be lonely for some. Enjoy sitting in the beautiful front lawn under sunshine and reading an interesting book. But guess thats what the charm is and most travellers are looking for.

Room Tip: Heritage room if you like the high ceilings, hundreds of photographs, old closets and the charm! New wing where the rooms are bigger and nothing extra ordinary about it.
