Having lived long ago in Taiwan and coming here frequently for business, this was my first time to come here. The building is very close to the Sheraton and the main train station and they specialize in Taiwanese handicrafts & gifts.

The quality is decent and prices are very fair. Definitely a good place to find gifts for friends back home.

After the decent reviews on this site I was surprised. This store has some really nice handcrafted things like batik textiles and pottery tea sets. If you want one stop shopping for gifts it’s a good destination. But it’s mostly medium quality tourist trinkets like what’s found at airport shops, so for me wasn’t an exciting destination. In particular some reviews mentioned good quality jewelry (or fewer fakes) and I guess everything’s relative, but I found the jewelry pretty dated in style and low end. It was almost totally empty on a Monday afternoon and seemed sort of sad.

The National Cultural and Creative Gift Center is a 5-10 minute walk from the National Hospital subway station and is a nice one stop shop selling all kinds of quality Taiwanese products to take home as souvenirs or gifts. Its worth a visit since all of the items are made in Taiwan and are of much better quality than what you'll find at most trinket stores catering to tourists.

This is an awesome place for so many things. You can find small affordable souvenirs, or local art lives, sculptures, bags, etc. That are a bit pricier. So many things from all around Taiwan. I go there every time.

because all the famous brands and smaller makers incl aborigine coops are represented here. Not cheap, but worth the price, and I somehow am hard pressed to come up with sympathy for the Western trash tourists here who whine that there are no cheap bargains. It's not plastic stuff nobody needs, but real arts and crafts; it's worth the price, and if you can't pay that, how about staying home? They have cheaper items as well, magnets, keyrings, pencils etc., but the porcelain, pottery and even food on the second floor is what makes this place great. I found the staff very friendly but not intrusive; that they need to check you a bit is necessary given the context. 5 mins on foot from the Sheraton; 7 mins from the MRT NTU Hospital one on the red line. Now that the NPM Shop at the NPM museum has totally gone to seeds, this is the place of choice, including NPM souvenirs actually.
