The temple/ fort is fun but the best part are all the fish. For 10 NT you get a tube of fish food. It is a great place to people watch and has a very calm atmosphere.

Having visited twice, maybe i was unlucky on both occasions in that the amount of people visiting meant that it was not easy to set up for nice photos and the tour groups meant that its very noisy within the buildings.
The grounds are nicely maintained as you would expect. It doesn't have too much information for the non-chinese speaking visitor so try to do any research before-hand.
Visit here, its worth an hour or so of your time in Tainan. Its one of Taiwan original city and former capitals most prestigious buildings, but don't expect too much and be prepared to be surrounded by a lot of people.
There is a cracking little sushi roadside restaurant directly out of the gates and slightly to the right.

Quite a pleasant experience exploring this historical building but it's still far from great.

We went there today and had a pleasant enough time. Grounds are very pretty and there are several fish ponds that are fun. There's some history here but there's not much in English so you really don't learn very much. I noticed one of the other reviewers suggested going to Anping instead of this for better interpretive labels. I'm going to take that advice and get out to Anping real soon. I don't regret coming here, I just felt I didn't understand it as well as I might with a bit of help.
Incidentally, there are some really nice washrooms here. In fact, I'd say in general that Tainan does a really good job of making public washrooms available at major sites.
Wait now, there's something else. Our guide book sent us to a mom and pop restaurant just down the street - Sen Maw Rice Food. It's got a roof and four walls and school desks to sit at. We had a very inexpensive meal that seemed really tasty. Turn right as you walk out of Chihkan Tower and walk about half way down the next block. it's 228 Minzu Rd. Certainly not Four Seasons quality but pretty good and they have an English menu which really helps big time.
So there's another reason to visit this site.

Also known as Fort Provintia during the Dutch colonial period in Taiwan. The most distinguishing feature is that there are nine sets of stone turtles carrying plates in front of it-- looks amazing at night!

its has a very nicely maintained garden and a lot to see
great place to learn about the history of taiwan
considered one of the must go places
espcially if you are also planning to go to anping old st, as these two places have got many historical connections
