Country drive from Tainan City to the Chigu salt mountain is a good drive. It takes about 1 hour. Gift shop next to salt mountain is fun to visit.

A friend's family member was taking me to some different places in Tainan and somehow they thought this would be a place I would like to see. When we got there, the place was virtually deserted. There was one couple that looked like they were going to go take wedding pics, so I thought inside must be interesting. Well, I was wrong. Inside is just the big pile of salt, which was roped off and could not be climbed. Other than that, there were some areas to walk around but not much interesting to see. One building had some history of salt mining and displays of some of the various trains used to get the salt and some salt sculptures. Another building had all kinds of products for sale, including local bags of salt. The last building has some salty ice-cream. We were here for about 45min and then I was bored. Left for the next place.

If you have a lot of time, it's not a bad place to visit. The Salt Mountain is just a small hill. Don't expect too much. We saw some families with small children and they seemed enjoying it.

There is a museum about 20 minutes walk from the Salt Mountain that talks about the history of salt and the industry. But if you don't read Chinese, you will find it hard to understand what are displayed in the museum. All information is written in Chinese and there is no English translation.

Do not miss salt-made popsicles that come with different flavors.

Brought to this place, thought it would be some kind of a big salt mountain and interesting place. Turned out wrong. It is a small mountain and unfortunately we can't go to the top of it.
Nevertheless, I am glad they have a souvenir shop on it. I bought some salt products such as soap, face foam, and mask which are good. Otherwise I would be so very disappointed wasting my time to go there..
