Just a small hill which made by salt. Half an hour could be done to view whole place. Visit here... read more
I knew it was going to be a kitschy attraction but went anyways. Not worth the trip to come this far but some of the temples on the way on this bus route are definitely worth it.

Next to the salt museum is this salt mountain. Though the place is no longer producing salt, but it is a nice place to see the history of salt production, sculpture made by salt, and the salt mountain.

Nothing much to see. Agree with earlier review, it's just salt piled high up by man that look like mini mountain. Only small patch of area is white other areas are all grey in color. Climb up the stairs and down will only take you a few mins. plus the sculpture museum. All take you 15 minutes and it's done. There more food vendors and kids playing grounds around.
Take bus #99(NT30) from Bus stop outside Tainan railway station. Note only 3 departure daily during the weekday and hourly during Sat/Sun & Public Holiday. Do ask the staff before boarding because not all #99 bus terminate at Cigu Salt Mountain.
Not worth the time spend on the journey(almost 1 hr) just to visit Cigu salt mountain, unless you cover other temple sites like LUERMENMA TEMPLE. Buy weekend bus ticket NT150 you can hop up and down unlimited ride to visit other sights along the way.

No, its not a mountain. Yes, its salt but lots of salts being put together at a place becomes erm a huge heap of salt that you can climb up. Just a short climb and at the top, there isn't really much to see.
I think the museum is much more interesting, small with some really nice sculpture all made of salt but you can tour it in less than 5 minutes. There's also the souvenir shop selling products made of salt - you have toothpaste, packets of salt, etc. The salted ice cream, is erm an acquired taste I guess. Don't really like it and they have very interesting flavours but I think needs to be fine tuned.
When we were there, they are actually building a new attraction next to the souvenir shop, made of salt of course. Some exhibits of their baseball hero, Guan yin (Buddhist god) statue, etc.
Not worth the visit as its so far out. We initially wanted to skip this, but since we hired a cab, thought we can drop by but if I can choose again, I'll save the extra cost to drive all the way down there.

A unique landscape of the salt mountain worth a visit. From a distance, it looks like a snow mountain, as high as 30 metres (consists of more than 60 thousand tons of salt), that has become one of a popular tourist attractions. Need to walk up the gradual slope of the salt mountain in order to view its salt production facilities. As the wind at times is strong along the way up the mountain, some cautions require to observe and it's advisable to wear hat with chin-strap. I nearly got my fisherman-hat blown off and my wife, her umbrella to shade herself from the sun. I believe those who love beautiful sceneries will agree with me, especially the landscape photography enthusiasts. Some may find this site not interesting. I'd captured some images to share. Hope to give you some ideas of this beauty, when you're in Tainan. I'd suggest to try their so called salt ice-cream. It's surprisingly refreshing after my return from the salt mountain visit. Hope my experience on this site give you some interesting ideas for your plan to visit. Thanks for reading. Till then...

I think this is totally a tourist trap.
It really isnt much of a mountain, neither is it a hill, more like a "statue" or blob of salt in the shape of a hill. The view isnt great, the place is far out and difficult to get to... nothing much to do there too. I'd definitely not recommend it.
