It's more of a salt hill. You can climb it and the steps are moulded from the salt itself. The view from the top is not exactly breathtaking-it's more of the experience climbing the salt hill. Seriously, not everyone gets to climb on salt isn't it? Sadly, the salt hill is not pristine white but grey.

Do try the salty popsicles. It comes in four flavours. Strange at first bite but the flavour becomes more pleasing afterwards. You can offset some food like beancurd and salty coffee with the entrance ticket but we did not try them.

This place was really disappointing and I have no idea why it is a tourist attraction. It is essentially a small 30 foot hill of salt. It reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Homer steals all the sugar and has it piled up in his backyard.

The mountain itself is just okay. It is now covered with dirts and no longer white in color. A few minutes walk to the salt museum nearby, you can find smaller but white salt mountain. My son enjoyed sliding down from the very small salt mountain very much. There were lots of salt evaporation ponds and let your feet have a salt spa.

I just came back from my trip to taiwan from 2 to 8 December 2007 and i must say i had a wonderful time there. One of my unforgetable attraction is the Chigu salt Mountain. To get there, you will have to go on a bus tour as the location is situated far away from the town area(about 3 hrs from taidung) This mountain is made up of salt and water and tourists are allowed to climb it with handrails provided so it wont be dangerous. From the summit of the mountain, you will have a spectacular view of the surroundings and it can be very windy from up there. Next to it lies a smaller mountain and people can climb it too. In this mountain, people can pick up the salt and throw it around. As for me, i took a few pieces of compressed salt back home to remember this place.

Do's:
Visit it from December to March as it would be much cooler.
Bring along your camera to snap those mountains.
Bring along winter clothings if you are going there during december.

Don'ts:
Go there on your own.
