If you are planning to go to Taichung, one hotel to really consider is Lailai hotel. I was there for 17 days so I can say that I know the hotel and its staff well. The service was excellent with the staff bending backwards to swiftly attend to our every need. The rooms and facilities are quite luxurious for the price being offered, especially since the hotel comes with free world class gym facilities as well as a washer dryer and free detergent! The hotel is also located near many sites such as Taichung Park and the Night Market, not to mention a good department store, Chungyo. May i say the breakfast was more than expected, with a great spread and tasty food every morning! But what made the biggest impression on me was the sincere kindness and resourcefulness of the hotel staff from the bell boy to the receptionists to the housekeeping staff and the breakfast crew. I was even to be served a special breakfast needed because of my medical needs. Catering to the diverse needs of each and every guest must be a great challenge, but Lailai staff do it and do it well. The staff also helped to translate all my destinations into Chinese which was imperative for a foreigner like me. congratulations to the Manager of Lailai hotel for maintaining such warm, efficient, effective staff. I felt like i never left home. I do hope I can return "home" again...sometime soon!

Room Tip: I did not see the other rooms but i got a good one facing the street and the city and seeing some of the trees of the taichung park in the distance. But it is best to get a room on the 9th floor...the 5th floor is nearer the gym which often has music on.

I chose to stay at the Lai Lai Hotel Taichung because of its location and price. My cousin and I decided to make a weekend trip to Taichung the same weekend I flew into Taiwan. We wanted to stay somewhere convenient, comfortable, and affordable, and the Lai Lai Hotel is just such. Location-wise, the hotel is conveniently across from one the biggest commercial areas in Taichung, Yi Zhong Street, which is actually an entire area filled with numerous street vendors and small shops. To get there, we literally walked out the double doors of the hotel to the nearest cross walk (approximately 1 minute walk away) and crossed the street. From there, all the delights of Yi Zhong Street were awaiting us.

Aside from the advantageous location, the hotel and its service are remarkable as well. To arrive, we took the High Speed Rail from Taipei Main Station and then transferred to the Taiwan Railroad for a short 5 minute train ride. We were then able to shop and walk to the hotel within 15 minutes. Upon arriving to the hotel, we were greeted by professional yet inviting staff who efficiently checked us in and led us to our room. Though the hotel was quite filled that weekend (the same weekend as the baseball game), the rooms are well insulated and we didn't even notice that there were many people walking and talking about. Furthermore, when we asked the staff for recommendations on places to visit, they were extremely informative and thoughtful in that they specifically named several options in terms of modes of transportation we are able to take. I was definitely able to feel the friendly and welcoming attitude of Taichung people when talking to the hotel staff.

The room itself is very comfortable and clean. We stayed in a standard room with two full sized beds. The room itself is very spacious, and even the bathroom is well-designed. The door will lead to a mini-hallway that consists of the entry to the bathroom and a mini-bar where you can find complimentary water bottles as well as the option to make tea or coffee. Past the hallway, there is the main room where there was a pretty large TV across from the two beds. There is also a desk along the way (same side as the TV) and a single lounging chair for you to relax in. The beds are comfortable from the pillows all the way to the sheets. It feels clean and relaxing once laying in the bed, and it definitely provided an excellent night's sleep especially after fighting jet lag from the long day of adventure.

The next morning, we proceeded to have the complimentary breakfast which was buffet style. There was an choice of both oriental and western food, and both were made quite deliciously. However, I would say that the western food isn't completely authentic tasting; there was definitely an Asian touch to the food. It was still great nonetheless. Also, the coffee was great!

There is also a gym that guest are able to use free of charge on the second and third floor of the building. I did not have time to go and actually use the gym, but was able to peek in and it looked clean and was fully equipped like any gym should be. Overall, I'd say that the hotel well exceeded my expectations in all categories, from the service to the room to the food, all were amazing. If I really had to be nit-picky and choose something to improve on, I would say that despite the elevators being very large and spacious, you can definitely tell that they are old, but that is just being very very picky. Either way, I would definitely recommend staying at Lai Lai to all my friends and family and would most likely choose to stay there again on my next visit to Taichung!

Dear Sir/Madam:

It was clever to choose Lai Lai Hotel while your stay in Taichung. And indeed, its convenience would be one of the great advantages which other hotels in Taichung could hardly compete for. Here, you can enjoy walking through the Taichung Park, shopping in Chungyo Department Store, not to mention there are two night markets near the hotel.

Furthermore, the gym is another feature that Lai Lai hotel beats other hotels once again. World Gym is one of the biggest gym clubs in Taiwan, fitness equipment of any kind can be found there. As a guest of Lai Lai Hotel, you can use all the equipment for free as long as you stay in the hotel.

We do see the problems you mentioned about the breakfast, we will keep it in mind and try hard to make progress. Yet, the elevators are the symbols of Lai Lai building; it’s full of the memories of the good old days when the Lai Lai Department Store thrived, which makes us to decide to keep them with us. It’s telling the stories.

The staffs in Lai Lai Hotel take every guest as a V.I.P., we do care about every detail as the moment you walk into the door. Your smile is the best gift to all the staffs in Lai Lai Hotel and that’s what we are making effort to achieve.

Come and be our V.I.P. again, that would be an inspiration to us!

Best regards,

Ben Yang

I stayed at Lai Lai Hotel Taichung during a two day one night visit to Taichung from Taipei. I chose the hotel based on its location and price. It’s conveniently located in the Yi Zhong Shopping District near the Yi Zhong night market (day market as well? The food stands and shops were crowded and open during the day too). The hotel blew my mind, this is not your typical business hotel, WAY NICER!

My family and I took the High Speed Rail from Taipei to Taichung and took the free HSR bus to the Yi Zhong Shopping District stop (around 30-45 minutes from HSR station depending on traffic). After asking some friendly locals to show us the right direction, it was a quick 5 minute walk from bus stop to the front of the hotel. Tip: Ask locals where the old Lai Lai Department store is and they will definitely know where it is.

Upon entering the hotel, we were greeted by friendly and professional staff who checked us in promptly and informed us that they had already turned on the AC in our room to lower the temperature (Taichung is hot!). This is one of those environmentally conscious hotels where you have to stick in your room key to start the AC or turn on the lights so the room would have been quite warm had they not turned on the AC prior to my entering the room—Awesome idea.

The room:
We stayed in a suite that was huge. It included two king beds, a sofa, desk, and two flat screen TVs. The interior design of the room was really nice, again, not your typical bare bones business hotel, very luxurious feeling. The bathroom was huge, equipped with a multi-function toilet (think warm toilet seat and washer). There were two sinks and all the amenities you will need for a night’s stay. The staff was kind enough to show us the standard rooms since I wanted to check them out for future visits and the rooms were larger than your typical hotel room in Taiwan and equipped with the same amenities as the suite, simply a smaller scale.

The service:
Hello Taichung hospitality! I had heard previously that Taichung locals are super nice but the front desk staff blew me away. My family and I didn’t really do any research as to what to do or eat around the area and they gave us a bunch of suggestions. Go to lunch across the street at Sha Gua Noodle House, yum! The place was bustling at noon, must be a local favorite. The staff suggested we go to Da Keng to see the cherry blossoms and called a taxi for us. Taxi ride to Da Keng was about 400 NTD (around $13 USD). They also recommended an almond tea place nearby which was also a neat place. Many folks visit Feng Jia Night Market when in Taichung and this was a mere $15 USD taxi ride away (about 30 minutes). If you’re tight with time, the Yi Zhong day/night market will provide enough food options to satisfy!

The room includes complimentary breakfast which was great. I went within a few weeks of its opening so the options were western or Taiwanese a la carte options with a beverage bar, soup, and congee. I heard from the servers that once things ramp up the breakfast will be buffet style.

There is a world gym in the same building and you can use its facilities while staying in the hotel. I didn’t have time to actually use it but the facility looked nice.

Location and value of this value will make it my go to hotel when I visit Taichung in the future, good job!

Room Tip: Rooms without windows are slightly larger than those with windows. Depending on your preference one may be a better choice than the other!
