Last time I visited here by motorcycle, but you also can take a taxi from tainan train station to this place. This one is the biggest night market and you can come here in the weekends. In the night market, you also can buy some souvenir with cheaper price, but you should try to bargain first. If you can speak chinese, maybe the seller would give you some discount.

We actually live close to the Garden Night Market; just a 10 minute walk. We have met people from all over Taiwan who make this one night market their "must" stop for an evening in Tainan. It's got all the snack food that is famous in Taiwan and those that are unique to Tainan. It gets crazy-crowded sometimes, even on the hottest and most humid nights. We used to go there even then, but the humidity with the crowds now keep us away. Even so, for the visitor, it's all part of the ambiance.

The one thing I wish there were more of is the "stuff," the nicknacks markets are famous for in Taiwan. This one has the food, of course, and lots of clothes, games, and cell phone covers, but not the little nicknacks of Taiwan.

A traditional market, complete with stinky tofu, litter everywhere, pets for sale and crowded, I have a love/hate relationship with this place. A great place for some cheap eats and products (phone cases, sunglasses) it can get extremely busy and that means that going here with a group can be challenging. If you are visiting Tainan, don't miss it. There's lots of snacks.

A bustling night market with good selection of food and merchandise at reasonable prices.
One unique point of this night market is that there are a lot of seating areas, owned by stores, for customers to enjoy their food.

The food was interesting and enjoyed most that we bought. Thumbs up to Australian beef with onions, Burritos, pineapple drink, tall icecream - think it was coconut milk icecream, Peking duck. Thumbs done to fried pork intestines - thought it was pork pieces, only one bite each and we figured it out, chicken sausage was just okay.

Other stalls were mainly clothes, phone accessories, gadgets - cockroach catcher motel if you are in need - they displayed cockroaches in them!

We spent about an hour an a half. Arrive at 7pm wasn't to busy, just a bit of bumping from passing byers.
Taxi cue just across street from exit 1, I believe.
