This is one of the more interesting hotels I have stayed in Taiwan! The outdoor view is awesome coupled with the December monsoon winds! At night, you can go up to the roof for star gazing with your love ones or take star gazing shots. The surroundings are not polluted with lots of lights.
The complimentary breakfast of eggs with free-flow drinks and bread is good! The interior design of the rooms are specially unique to each room. Very good settings for couples! It is definitely worth staying!

My boyfriend and I stayed 1 night in their double room. We really enjoyed our stay, and only wished we had stayed longer! All staff were consistently warm and sincere and made us feel so at home during our entire stay. When we first arrived, a female staff (probably heard us pulling our luggage) greeted us at the entrance and helped us with our luggage immediately. She sat us down and served complimentary juice, a small act we appreciated during the hot summer weather.

The hotel also offers free shuttle service to Kenting Main Street, as well as an affordable, small-group tour to key attractions. I don't think this was mentioned anywhere on their website (which they should!). It added much convenience to travellers like us who didn't drive. We took advantage of their free shuttle service and was served by their driver/guide - Xiao Ou (小欧). He was a sincere and helpful guy, asking us if we slept well and enjoyed our stay. During the rides, he also offered interesting local information, such as crab migration seasons, local food etc. He definitely helped to create a local, authentic travel experience for us.

Our hotel room was very comfortable, bed and showers were good. We could also look out to the grass field and ocean from our balcony. One could also arrange for breakfast to be served to your room, a thoughtful service we appreciated.

When we were leaving, the staff went out of the way to check our bus transfer schedule, calling the bus company, making sure we'd reach our destination on time. Xiao Ou also sent us to the bus station, free-of-charge. How helpful can they get!

South of Border is a thoughtful, customer-oriented hotel which goes out of its way to provide an enjoyable stay for guests. I can barely find anything bad about our stay. The high standard of service is praiseworthy! It almost feels like staying in a second home, with your friends. We strongly recommend them to travellers seeking an authentic and comfortable stay in Kenting! Thanks for the wonderful stay!

We stayed here over the weekend and it is a really nice place. Really nicely designed rooms and outdoor areas and staff are helpful. Unfortunately there were two things which were a problem. The first is that it rained the entire time we were there, not an issue normally but a big problem at this hotel because there are no communal areas inside. it is just your room and then the outside parts. The second issue was that our bed was full of bed bugs and I got badly bitten.

I believe that many people visit Kenting because of the Taiwanese Movie "Cape No.7"(2008). In fact, the name "South of Border" is also from the works of Japanese Writer "Murakami Haruki"

Location: 15 minutes drive from the Kenting High Street. A very quiet place at uphill area with good view of the sea and the light-house (landmark). The location is near to some of the famous scenic point in Southern Kenting. Excellent place if you have rent a car / motorbike. Not easy accessible by public transport.

Room: Nice and clean room in greek style with some modern decoration and furniture. The balcony is very spacious and romantic for moonlight bathing.

Staff: Friendly and helpful staffs

I have also stayed other In conclusion, I found this hotel is the most comfortable place during my trip in Kenting.

Room tip: Ocean & Grass View Room at 2/F

I’m surprised there hasn’t been a review for this lovely minsu yet. My friend and I (both female) stayed here for two nights and had a wonderful experience. The staff are top notch – really friendly and accommodating, the premises are clean, and the Greek-style architecture lends a languid, relaxing atmosphere. Perched on top of a small hill, the minsu offers up some beautiful vantage views of the seaside and Eluanbi lighthouse on one side, and almost Hobbiton-esque pastures on the other.

The rooms are modern, tastefully furnished and come with wifi, complimentary bottled drinks and bathing supplies. You can also borrow some of their books to read, including the novel by Japanese author Haruki Murakami , “South of the Border, North of the Sun” after which this minsu is named – don’t think there is an English version though. Do note however that most of the rooms seem to have an open toilet/bathroom concept, i.e. there are no doors but there’s a partition separating these areas from the rest of the room, so it may be more suitable for couples or same-gender travelling companions.

When we first arrived we were a tad dismayed to find that the minsu was situated on a hill, quite a distance from the Kenting main street. But our concerns were allayed when we found out that it provides a free shuttle service (about 5-7 min) to the main street at stipulated times. The staff would also happily arrange an extra taxi service for you at other times, at your own cost. In fact, being far away from the touristy parts of Kenting proved to be a blessing in disguise, as we were able to relax in this peaceful and charming little nook. We were perfectly happy just lounging on the deck chairs in front of the minsu, doing absolutely nothing except looking at the sea!

Breakfast is a simple but tasty affair of eggs, salad with tuna bits, toast and juice. But the real treat is enjoying your meal at the patio with the sea breeze nipping at your hair and taking in the charming seaside views.

The minsu also provides two guided tours with different trails. I took one of the tours (which includes the Eluanbi lighthouse, amongst others) for a small fee – note that this excludes entrance fees to attraction sites and lunch which you have to pay out of your pocket, but they are generally very affordable. The tour is from 12-5pm and our guide, Ah Bu, was knowledgeable and passionate.

All in all, a wonderful experience at a charming minsu with dedicated and extremely friendly staff. I’ll definitely stay here again when I return to Kenting!
