We stayed here for 1 night at the bamboo lodge. Although not the most comfortable room, it is such an experience. Had a tour by a monk through the whole complex which was really interesting. The early service at 530am the next was another great experience. One of the highlights of our Taiwan trip!

Though a non Buddhist, this museum is worthy of half to full day visit while in Kaohsuing.

The giant bronze Buddha statue is something to behold. As are the manicured landscaped surroundings.
The grounds are sizable. Wheel chair friendly.

The indoor museum artifacts are worthy of an hour or so. The gold Buddha is also impressive, as are the embroidery items.

Clean bathroom facilities. Quality dining / food eateries n cafes in the main building - vegetarian of course. Oh, there's even a Starbucks cafe. This building is modern just like any quality department store restaurant / food environment. Plenty of gift shops too.

The staff and monks are friendly and always willing to assist - though English is not spoken by all.

1 hour or so from town, it's a relatively simple journey. There are several options. We took the MRT (LTR) from Kaohsuing main Station to Zouying station. Up to street level and found bus stop #2. Bus direct to Fo Guang Shan Buddha Memorial Centre.

On a sunny day a hat is a must, though you can walk along shaded areas. Luckily for us the Friday went there were few visitors. Unsure if it gets overly crowded. On special occasions the Centre would be an awesome sight. Btw, there are more places to visit on the site.

A terrific experience. Recommended visit.

Our family spent 4 to 5 hours here, the 3 good deeds in ‘temple 2’ is a must go for kids. It cultivate the good values for the young & the short movie is very educational. Make sure u check out the show time first so that u can plan out the walking path accordingly.

The bid Buddha is spectacular and the location of the Buddha was intentional to be facing east so that when sunset, the natural sun will form the aura for the Buddha statue.

A must go place when u visit Kaohsiung!

This place is sprawling, but kid of shallow as Buddhist monasteries go. The staff are incompetent, and the main viewing deck is not open outside of a Buddhist holidays, which is totally stupid.
