“Love the bathroom!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 27, 2012

The first thing that I loved about Gecko Inn was the bathroom. Great shower with pebble floor but poor whirl pool. It was dirty so we never used it. There's jacuzzi on the top floor you might like. Nice cushioned gazebo on the balcony. The door lock was broken when I stayed there and they could use new beds. Expensive for an inn but most inns and hotels in Uluwatu are a bit pricey anyway.

To begin with- We booked well in advance and emailed to confirm our pick up at airport, on arrival we looked for driver for 1 hour and eventually caught a taxi. Taxi driver had no clue where it was until we reached a dirt alley way roaming with stray dogs. No staff were there on arrival and after sitting around for half an hour, we were met by a staff member who did not apologise or show any care- Our room that had been booked, was taken so we were told we were to stay in a different one. After an uncomfortable two days into our stay, we happily departed (5 days earlier than planned) to find a much nicer place down the road, for half the price! This place is over priced and totally run down! The single rooms have no tvs or dvds like stated. The WIFI connection was not available during our entire stay, and we were told it constantly cuts out. The 'free breakfast' offered is ONE pancake!? The showers leak. Almost all facilities are broken. The kitchen is horrible and dirty- with no guest access. The pool is small and barely maintained (One staff member was seen shaving his face and cleaning his razor in the pool water). The owner- Emma, is rude and makes it obvious she is only concerned in making more money from guests (offering her driver, who is ridiculuosly overpriced etc.). The roosters will constantly wake you up throughout the night. The staff sleep in whichever rooms are not booked out at the time, and if so, they will sleep on the pool side chairs (covers are faded and stained). they can be friendly at times, but not very accomodating at all. NEVER AGAIN! It is definitely worth shopping around the are as there is much better deals on offer.

We stayed at the Gecko Inn for 8 nights and there were 4 of us, rooms were very nice, main bedroom on level 3 was fantastic with views to Kuta, also a very large room with DVD and TV hanging from the roof at the end of the bed. Only about 400m to Uluwatus main surf beach which we walked to each morning. Breakfast was served daily and villa was kept clean. Pool is small but great to refresh yourself in when its hot. Great spot for surfers.

Room Tip: The top level is the best room.

My partner and I stayed in Gecko In recently. It was one of two places we stayed in whilst in Bali.
We had a wonderful holiday and found that the Gecko Inn was just what we wanted. The Staff were nice and the place was clean and comfortable. We met other guests who we befriended and we all enjoyed wine and chat by the pool in the evenings. The free breakfast each morning was a great start to the day. The location was a great place to base ourselves and I have already recommended Uluwatu Gecko Inn to friends and we would certainly be keen to stay there again in the future.

Room Tip: When we go to Bali we like to spend extra on accommodation as most other things are cheap. i would h...

even after two confirmation emails confirming my airport transportation (last email was 2 days before my arrival) they failed to send anyone to pick me up. i walked around for over an hour hoping someone would show up and finally found my own cab. when i arrived, nobody was around to check me in and another guest informed me there was no water in the entire place at the moment. great. finally a girl shows up to let me in and emma the owner shows up. i expressed displeasure that my pick up was neglected. she never actually apologized, in fact i had to show her the confirmation email to prove i had been promised a ride. i believe in lieu of an apology she said "oh, well we had busy day and we only have one car." ummm. what?! it was my first day of my first visit to bali and i really didn't want to fight. at first glance my room wasn't bad looking (some cute decorations actually), but for $80 a night this place was terrible. chipped peeling paint, huge dead roach in my room, the fridge hadn't been cleaned out and had half eaten food in it, bathroom ameneties consist of one bar of soap, one roll of toilet paper, and one ratty towel, the air conditioner wouldn't work until i figured out i had to change the batteries in the remote. i was charged for breakfast even though it clearly states that breakfast is included on the website. they said i would have needed to order it from the desk earlier? nobody mentioned that! speaking of the website, i noticed they have changed some things. when i booked, it said the two superior rooms have an ocean view, i could only see other roofs from my superior room. the website now accurately describes the view. i spoke with another guest who was happy with his room, but had only spent $25/night. if this was the price of my room, i wouldn't have been quite as disappointed. after staying at several other places which were cheaper and far far better, i realized what a rip off the uluwatu gecko is. the pool looked ok, but definitely looks bigger in the pictures. overall people were friendly yet gave frusteratingly inefficient service. i almost forgot, the lock on my door didn't work , cute lights on the wall behind the bed but they didn't work, not all the electrical outlets work, and when i asked for a ride to ubud i found out later was about 100,000rp over priced. unless you are a surfer staying in one of the more fairly priced rooms i doubt you'll be happy with your stay here. it surely wasn't the way i anticipated beginning my bali trip. luckily places like alam indah in ubud and adi assri in pemuteran were beautiful, clean, attentive, and well run.

I am just letting everyone know to never stay here..... Our trip starts like this.. We purchased this holiday through a charity function for a close friend and expcected it to be as we were told and promised a nice friendly place to stay. We were meant to have 5 nights in the superior room, With pick up from the airport and transfers and breakfast included. We got to bali and no-one was there to pick us up. We asked around for a taxi to take us to the Gecko Inn and no-one knew where it was the phone was unlisted as well. We finally got to Uluwatu and our taxi man asked some people and they said it was down this alley way. Well we finally got there and my eyes almost fell out of my head. There was a mountain of dirt where the so called reception/pool area was and all the floor had been ripped up and there were workmen everyehwere hammering and mess like you would not believe there were scooters where the pool was and matresses lying all over the place. The manager came over and said o yes we have you booked but forgot you were coming. She said it would not be a few days till the floors and everything were finished and that we could stay but they would be working till all hours on it and we couldnt swim or anything. My 7 year old daughter was almost in tears as she was tired and hungry from the flight and trying to get to this dump. We were taken to our room where the towles on the bed look like towels i would dry my dog off with. And it was not very clean at all. We sat there not knowing what to do and she said she could try and find us somewhere to stay. Even though we bought the accomdation at a charity auction we payed far beyond what it was worth and would not have purchased it if we knew this nightmare would happen. We decided to cut our losses as ther was no intention of them giving us any money back and find a way to get back to kuta/legian and get some real accomodation. They didnt even have a car to take us back down in we had to get and pay for our own driver so how were they ever going to pick us up??? Since then i have spoken to the owner who has not appologised and has been nothing but rude to me! So if you are after a place to stay. DO NOT STAY HERE....

Room Tip: Never stay here

Gecko inn was AWESOME.
We were a group of 8 and everyone loved it there, the rooms were very cosy and had by far the best showers in bali, great pressure.

the location is good, and not a long walk to Uluwatu surf break. Emma did organise bikes in a day, which you will need to get to the other beachs -padang padang, dream beach etc, we hired them at a great rate.

Emma and the other lady there make the BEST FOOD, and it's so cheap!!!!!!

There is free internet use as well.

The pool is small but is cool and great to chill in after a day in the sun.

All in all i recommend this place, the staff are super friendly and helpful and the rooms are very comfortable (they did make the beds everyday) and location is great! will definately stay there again.

oh the only negative is the chickens ...they start crowing at 2-00am in the morning!
