The location and view from the hotel were wonderful. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had a great time there and a big part of that was the staff at the front desk, bar and restaurant who made sure that we were taken care of. The location was beautiful and the pool area was amazing! Can't wait to go back.

Not one complaint about my stay. I felt so well looked after, staff was genuine and layed back. Food was sensational, massage was incredible and inexpensive, and the beach connected to the resort was breathtaking. I will be back!

The hotel was charming and the staff very nice. We took long walks on the beach and short drives to surrounding areas. Walking around the hotel was also a treat! We saw monkeys, cows, birds and even a snake. Loved our stay!

Dear 1LouisW1,

Our small hotel is quite charming, so glad you found our staff very nice. Potrero Beach is great for long walks and the area is pretty safe to explore. We are surrounded by nature so is normal to have contact with all kind of harmless animals from the area. Thank you very much for sharing your experience, super happy you loved your stay!!

We spent 5 days there in May 2014 and I wanted to share some important information that hopefully will be helpful if you are considering booking this hotel. First of all the hotel is in the middle of the nature and it is beautiful if you want to relax, however there is not much going on around it. In addition to that there are dogs everywhere in that area so if you are afraid you cannot go anywhere, we tried to leave the hotel different times but finally we ended up spending all the nights there, which hasn’t been super exciting considering that in Costa Rica at 6pm it is already dark and the only places we could stay were the restaurant and the bar of the hotel. Moreover, I found 3 geckos in 3 different rooms, a big crab in the toilet of the restaurant and there are a lot of insects everywhere. Of course you are in the middle of the jungle (almost!) so you might be expecting all this... The staff has helped a lot but I think that people must know what it is like before booking a holiday there, especially if afraid of dogs and insects in general...

Room Tip: Not at the ground floor!!

Dear Elena3105,

How sad to have such a lower rate, we thank you for your comment, there is nothing like the word of a client for readers and for us. Potrero is a layback, safe beach town and yes not a great location for people that are looking for night activity or discothèques. We do have our theme nights on Fridays, “Viernes of Bahia” where we have music, bonfire at the beach, marshmallows and a great setting on beachfront. Also have at service taxis that can take you to Tamarindo, a 20 minute ride will take you to a place with a lot of night time activity. We do not have dogs everywhere, we have an issue with two local, clean, healthy inoffensive dogs that since the beach front is open sometimes they get inside the front garden area, they are never in the restaurant. Must of our clients don `t mind and they actually are friends with them, being said that as I told you in person you are absolutely right, we are working on getting rid of them with our hurting them, unfortunately they win some of our clients heart. I understand your phobia towards animals made your stay with us uncomfortable. Want to clarify that when you wanted to depart I made it pretty clear that we were going to try our best but you decided to come to a natural environment where almost impossible not to have contact with animals. I personally took care of your complain and made it clear that we do not hold prisoners but happy guests and I put myself at your service to move you to another hotel if that will make you stay in Costa Rica better. You must recognize the effort we put in to your stay, we even send one of our coworkers to try to catch a gecko in your room (as you can see it was impossible), gave you an upgrade, free cocktails but as you are mentioning to be in the jungle and not expect some of this animals is almost impossible, even doe we tried.

Thank you very much for pointing out that we did tried our best to help you and assist you, our goal is for our clients to enjoy at the fullest, so sorry we failed that with you. This wasn’t a good location for you and we apologize. This is not a good place for people that don`t want a contact with the nature. Every experience serve us to improve, we have been in touch with the owner of these two dogs so that they are no longer at the beach, not an easy task since all beaches are public in Costa Rica. As you can read most of clients are happy with us and their stay, they are exultant to be in contact with the nature, sorry once again if they sold you our hotel as a city hotel. Any hotel in this area will have crabs (depending on the season), geckos and perhaps mosquitos.

We wish you and your partner the best; hope the rest of the trip in Costa Rica was better.

Be well,

Victoria Bonilla
