We spent four nights at the hotel in the middle of our trip. We stayed in one of the two bed suites, which would comfortably fit a family or two couples, with a double and twin room and two separate shower rooms. We squeezed in two extra children on camp beds in the lounge! There was a large living, dining area and well stocked kitchen and a great terrace with a lounger and outdoor seating.
The rooms could do with a bit of updating, but were clean and the AC was a blessing in the heat of the day and night!
The hotel has a great pool and we all enjoyed the swim up bar and jacuzzi! The gardens were lovely and very well maintained. It was wonderful being right on the beach and the sunsets were beautiful! We really appreciated how nice our hotel was after visiting one on the neighbouring bay, playa flamingo, that had a road separating the hotel from the beach and was flanked with traders selling souvenirs and tours.
The sand at playa Potrero is dark volcanic, but this didn't detract from the beauty of the setting. There is little development along this section of coast and it felt very peaceful. The water was a little rough for our 8 year old at high tide, but was fine at other times. We loved watching the pelicans dive for fish!
We were all impressed by the friendliness of the staff, some of whom took time to get to know us and made our stay really special. The staff were very helpful and arranged a fantastic snorkelling, diving trip for us in the bay. Three of us used the hotel spa during our stay for massages and would definitely recommend this.
We ate at the hotel restaurant two nights and were all pleased with our meals. The restaurant is set in the gardens looking over the sea and on our last night there was live music and the tables were set up right along the beachfront, which was lovely! They offer a good range of food, if on the slightly higher price range compared to other local eateries. We had fantastic local food at The Shack, 5 minutes walk up the road.
Overall, this is a lovely hotel, great for couples or families and those wanting to avoid larger resort type establishments. Thank you bahia del sol!

Room Tip: - We loved our suite, 309, which was on the 1st floor so felt more secluded. We had to walk past some of the ground floor rooms to get to ours, so this might be a little annoying to those looking for more privacy!

Dear Sally C

We appreciate very much your comment and kind words. Our two bedrooms suites are ideal for families because as you mentioned are fully equipped and have plenty of room available for sharing, not to mention the view of our lush garden and steps away from the ocean. The A/C are very important because of our hot weather you have AC on the big living area and the two bedrooms as well that way you can be fresh and cool to enjoy your stay with us. The sunsets are truly amazing! All doe beaches in Costa Rica are public; Potrero is almost private, safe and secluded, perfect for long walks, breath taking views and occasional swimming.

Not only the pelicans but some of the locals fish here, is very relaxing to see the birds feed themselves in the water. Is so nice to read that your where impressed by the friendliness of our staff, for us is very important to make our guests feel not only welcome but to experience a personalized attention with us. We can of course arrange tours and excursions for our guests, not only in the area and ocean like sunset catamaran, snorkeling, fishing but also the mountains, hot springs, horseback riding, canopy and much more. Thank you for recommending NAU Spa, we have reasonable prices and great natural environment, is a little oasis inside the garden with AC of course and great professional therapist that have good knowledge of the body and soul. NASU Restaurant is an open Rancho facing garden, pool and ocean, which offers breakfast that, is included on the rate, lunch and dinner. You enjoyed our “Viernes of Bahia”, theme nights with music, bonfire and set up beach front. This is the perfect place to avoid the big resorts; we are a small boutique hotel committed to provide excellence to everyone that visits us. Thank YOU!!

Pura vida,

Staff is wonderful. Very pleased with accommodations. Loved the enclosed patio with outdoor jacuzzi and shower. Romantic strolls on the beach and restful siestas. There's a little touch of luxury here and enjoyed the outdoor dinning every night. Small but inviting pool was truly refreshing. There isn't much in town but this small hotel is worth getting away to if you want to beat the crowds at other Costa Rica beaches. Of course, you have views of fabulous sunsets.

Room Tip: Lush gardens around pool area rooms give great sense of privacy.

Dear CaroleNK,

We are delighted for the praises towards our staff, we really have a great family that works together to provide high quality to our guests. Glad you were very pleased with accommodations. From the description you had or our deluxe suite or our king sun suite that has the enclosed patio where you can relax take the sun or Look at the stars with full privacy, tub and outside shower. Bahia is a very romantic hotel, we put attention to details and we have plenty of space to chill relax and enjoy the natural and open environment.

The mood changes during the evening and gets elegant and NASU offers fine dining for our guests and visitors. During the day time, the swimming pool, wet bar and beach just in front makes it a relaxed and laid-back atmosphere. Potrero is a private safe town, perfect to get away for crowds as mentioned. Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience!!

Our family of 4 had a fantastic three night stay. This is an ideal place to relax by the pool and beach. Beautiful grounds and attentive staff. Our 2 bedroom suite was spacious and comfortable. The included breakfast was excellent, and we enjoyed dinner at the restaurant as well. There are a few dining options within easy walking distance as well. Flamingo, Brasilito, and Tamarindo are close by for more dining and shopping choices. Getting to the hotel is pretty easy, and they just recently paved the road right all the way to the hotel.

Room Tip: If getting a suite, the 2nd floor rooms are preferable for their private patios.

Dear Eric H,

So happy to read that you and your family had a fantastic stay with us! We agree completely, this is the ideal place to relax by the pool, beach or garden area. Grounds are green, luxuriant and our staff is always trying their best for our guests. The two bedroom suite are perfect for families, you have a big living area with sofas and a flat screen TV, dining area with big table, breakfast counter a full equipped kitchen, two separate bedrooms with bathrooms and AC´s.

NASU Restaurant is proud to deliver breakfast (included on the rate), lunch and dinner, excited that your breakfast was excellent and that you had the opportunity to have dinner with us as well. Potrero is still a bit secluded but in 5 minutes you are in Flamingo ( you can even go walking), 15 minutes in Tamarindo for more options of everything, front desk has great pointers of restaurants, beaches and plenty more. It is pretty easy to get to our hotel, we have signs all over the high way and the paved road makes a huge difference. Thank you very much for your comment, we appreciate your visit and review a lot.

Be well,
