“Spring Break Perfection”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2014

The amazing views in every direction are enough to break you out of the everyday cycle. The gardens are stunning and the open layout is refreshing. The staff is friendly and helpful. The amount of lounge chairs for guests is plentiful. Art is colorful and simple but eye catching. The rooms are nice for Costa Rica. The tile is older and the American luxury is not present but you are not left without. The complementary breakfasts are plentiful. Starting with juice and coffee, then toast with butter and Hybiscus jam and banana bread onto a selection of items included with the price of the room. Our groups favorite, Traditional Costa Rican breakfast with rice, beans, eggs and cheese. The Huevos rancheros or traditional american breakfast were popular too. The swim up bar manned by Eduardo who knows you by name and is ever so accommodating was a joy. I must say the food was not amazing but several people swore that the Tuna Tartar was to die for. The resort offers Costa Rican fair and some worldly cuisine to meet the needs of it's guests. There are plenty of American dishes if you want to stay conservative. However, the prices are also American. Costa Rica offers a great dish of food for about $6 and the American dishes are 2 to 3 times that. If possible, go to the nearby restaurants for local cheaper fair. Would definitely recommend it if someone is not on a budget. In the area, the rooms were much higher here but then again, you are paying for the beach which is about 50 steps from several of there rooms. Listening to the powerful waves crash on the shore at night will erase most people's worries away in a hot (and I do mean hot!) flash.

Dear Mebyename,

Thank you very much for your comment. This is definitely the place to break the cycle, routine and just relaxes with the nature. Our garden is one of the best features, the heart of this hotel, full of green and life. Thrilled to the praises towards our staff, it is always a great pleasure to assist and help our guests. NASU Restaurant offers the included breakfast on the rate, very happy you enjoyed that. Eduardo our bartender is a joy couldn't agree more! Always eager to serve specially in happy hour ;)

The tuna tartar id a must in our Restaurant, fresh with a touch of mango and avocado. Our first choice for food is our Restaurant, being said that as you are mentioning you can find other choices as well, just be aware that they have all the sanitary permissions. Other attractive feature is to be just in front of the ocean as you are mentioning. We appreciate very much your visit; hope to have you back in a near future.

Warm regards,

Victoria Bonilla

A good place to wind down after your trip around costa rica.
We were a little disappointed in the beach which had a lot of rubbish and dog faeces in evidence. Not surprising considering the number of stray dogs running wild up and down the beach. The sea was a little too rough to venture in whilst we were there in December.
Our room was lovely - no trouble upgrading to a suite with two bedrooms when they tried to give my friend and I one bedroom with a large double bed. We're friends but not that friendly.
The pool area was lovely. The food in the restaurant was OK but not great. Service was good though. We enjoyed cocktails at the friendly bar.

Dear carolparkin,

Great that you where able to have a relaxing stay with us and thank you for sharing your experience. Normally the sea is pretty calm but when we are having fool moon the tide gets a bit rough. Glad you appreciate the up grade to a two bedroom suite; our pool is definitely lovely, happy you thought our service is good. You cannot miss a cocktail while you are staying with us, specially by sunset time!

Be well,

Dear Daddy54,

Thank you so much for your comment. We do have a beautiful landscape; the best assets of this hotel are the proximity to the ocean, the luxuriant garden and our staff. We take very seriously our mission with our guests and focused to provide the best possible service to our guests. A cocktail is a must during your stay at Bahia Del Sol Beach Front Boutique Hotel, especially around happy hour (5:30 until 7:00 p.m.) half prices in most of our cocktails. Blissful you enjoyed the atmosphere and the summer climate. Come back anytime!

Sincerely yours,

We stayed at the Bahia del Sol for 4 nights. It is a beautiful hotel with a great staff. The rooms are good with great AC. We wished the available seating in the room and on the balcony were more comfortable, but all in all, it was good. It is definitely a low key place, so go here if you're looking for relaxation.

The only thing we were surprised and disappointed with was the lack of a proper hot tub. They have an area that is above the pool, but the water is not heated. Having stayed earlier at the Volcano Lodge in the Arenal area and having a GREAT HOT TUB, it was noticeable that Bahia del Sol did not have one.

The food was awesome, the staff was very good. In particular, Oscar and Eduardo made our stay awesome!

Room Tip: we had a suite and it was good.

This is a smaller resort on the beach in Playa Potrero. It's right on the beach, and has a beautiful view. The staff is excellent. They provided great service setting up a tour, recommending places to eat, and were very engaging at the bar and in the restaurant. The grounds and the pool area are top notch. The rooms are clean and comfortable, though they could use a little updating. That isn't a complaint, just an observation. We have enjoyed our stay. We would recommend this to travelers who like a more layer back resort.

Dear Pam A,

Bahia del Sol is a small charming boutique hotel dedicated towards customer service and details. To be right on the beach is definitely a pro, our staff always eager to serve with a smile  Oasis tour desk concierge has plenty of great choices for tours, dinning and any request that you might have. Grounds are green and lush and surround the whole property, the center of the hotel is our pool and the area to chill and relax by the pool, just in front of the Beach as well.

We are joyful that you enjoyed your stay with us; we take all observations in consideration to provide only the best for our clients. Thank you very much for your recommendation and resent visit.

Best regards,

We switched gears and decided to go to Bahia del Sol with our twin 3 year old boys for lunch and swimming today. They have a walk-in pool, a small kiddie pool, and an unheated hot tub which was perfect to cool off in - certainly cleaner than an afternoon at the beach. The staff was attentive and friendly from the minute we arrived. We ordered the BLT (which was huge) and some patacones with black bean dip which arrived at our table quickly - a bonus with impatient kids! My kids are picky eaters so when the food disappeared quickly without any prodding from me, it was a big success. My family has been living in Costa Rica for 6 months now and it was nice to come to a place with clean bathrooms. My Spanish isn't the best so it was nice to practice with their helpful staff but they speak English as well if you can't find the right Spanish words! We will definitely come back!

Dear mbungay,

You are absolutely right, don´t have to stay here to enjoy the pool, if our occupancy allows we let visitors come by and enjoy the facilities. How nice that you decided to come and enjoy a beautiful summer day by the pool. The main pool has a good size and it has a wet bar. Great thing our staff caused you a positive impression.

Our snacks menu is friendly and includes from quesadillas, to chicken or fish fingers, pizza, hamburgers, chips and plenty more. We are looking forward to your next visit! Thank you very much for your recent visit, for putting your comment, we appreciate that and your business.

Be well,

We give Bahia del Sol 5 stars: it is a very charming small resort that catered to our needs beautifully. My husband and I were celebrating our 40th anniversary with another couple, on a 9 day trip at the end of January. On previous vacations, we have rented a villa or condo, but this time, we decided to try this small resort on the beach. Costa Rica is quite hilly, so most condos, especially newer ones, are planted high in the hills. This property is directly on the beach. A car is needed only for off-property excursions, and not even then, if you take advantage of the many tour companies who will provide transportation. This resort is not a new property but it is very well maintained (except the plumbing could use an update, and you should expect a few random electricity outages), with a lush interior garden courtyard, plants and artwork lining interior courtyards. Its open-air dining room overlooks the small pool, the lounge chairs on the lawn, and the beach. The resort is proud of its efforts to be eco-friendly and to impart the feeling of being a part of nature to its guests.
When we were there during peak season, the clientele consisted of young families, young couples and older folks, from several countries, notably Canada, Germany, France, as well as U.S. The food was excellent, much of it with a Thai theme. We dined at the resort most evenings, and much preferred it to the two other restaurants we tried. We celebrated our anniversary at Bahia del Sol, at a table almost on the beach, and Oscar made quite a fuss to make the evening special for us with rose petals on the tablecloth, champagne, etc. Breakfast was included, generous, and very good.
The entire staff, but especially Maik, was very outgoing and helpful to us, and took a personal interest in helping my husband, who uses a wheelchair, to have a good time, to see and do many things (e.g. river boat trip, zip line, hot springs) where others might have not made the significant extra effort. They all treated us as if we were family, in a very friendly sort of way, e.g. laughing with us while helping us try to speak a pitiful bit of Spanish.
Nearby, we enjoyed Dante Beach to the north, and Playa Conchal (shell beach) to the south.
Costa Rica has a lot going for it. Roads are being improved, water is clean and abundant, wildlife is everywhere, tourist attractions abound, and those that we saw avoided being tacky. The Costa Ricans are very friendly and outgoing, well-educated, appreciative of and concerned about protecting the natural beauty of their country, and generally speak English in addition to Spanish. There are volcanoes, tree-top bridges, zip lines, hot springs in the interior, and surfing and lots of water sports on the ocean. During winter in the U.S., Costa Rica is having its dry season, which means there is hardly any rain at all, so an adventure can be planned for every day with no rainouts. One small disappointment: at least on the Pacific side, snorkeling is not so good, as the water is generally too rough. And there are sometimes strong winds. Surfers, children and dogs seemed to have an especially wonderful time in the waves.
We flew into a newer airport, Liberia, and thus avoided a long drive from San Jose on difficult roads. If you want to see a lot of Costa Rica, it will take a lot of time to get from place to place, even though it is a small country, because most roads are still unpaved, or undergoing construction now, unmarked by route numbers, and hilly in the interior.

Dear Tapa_in_Morristown,

First I would like to thank you for choosing us as part of your 40 anniversary, privileged that you rate us 5 starts  Part of the beauty of our property is that is located just in front of beautiful Potrero Beach and our lush, green garden that surrounds the property. Oh yes we are super proud to have for leaves with the CST (The Certification for Sustainable Tourism Program) we want to have a business that is aware of this world and the impact that we are causing, need to maintain the natural beauty of this country and we are happy to share those knowledge’s with all of our guests and the community. Glad you enjoyed you meals over at NASU Restaurant that has a tropical, thai, twist to a local cuisine, is one of the best choices in Potrero Town.

Every time we have an anniversary, honey moon or any special occasion we go above and beyond for our client to make a special set up, very happy that Oscar did a great job, he is an important asset to our Hotel, very dedicated towards customer service. Maik our Front Desk Supervisor is one of our superstars at the hotel, always caring our clients’ needs with a smile and great attitude. That is exactly what we are aiming for, that every guest fell like part of our family, is a small boutique hotel so we can personalize our services and we are happy to do that for every client that comes along. We agree Costa Rica is a remarkable country that has a lot to offer! Costa Ricans are friendly, genuine and caring!

Thank you once again for sharing you experience, remember that mi casa es su casa 

Warm regards,

Victoria Bonilla
