Well, this was my second visit to jungle retreat. The first one was when I was a bachelor and this time it was for my 2nd wedding anniversary. You would know that it is a good place from my choice of it for such a special occasion. One must know that he is getting into something that is in middle of the jungle and not expect a lot of activities ( the ones you expect in regular tourist place ).

It's a good property with good accommodation. Variety of accommodation is impressive. You have tree houses, dormitories, cottages, suites and regular rooms with fine architecture blending in with the jungle. The restaurant ( I find it expensive but they are getting food to you in middle of the jungle right ..? ) provides good yum food. I don't drink, so no comments on the bar there but the ones who did seemed happy with it. People are hospitable here. Helping you with your activities, safaris, directions, etc. etc. They were kind enough to get me a anniversary cake ( shh,.. surprise for my wife ). They have a lady who can come to your room and provide thai massage which my wife says was decent. Coming to the subject of my review, there isn't a lot to do inside the property. I used to spend a few hours here and there and then get out for treks, safaris, drive to nearby places ( on way to ooty, wayanad ) etc.

First of all even though it is near ooty it is not a cold place .the temperature during october was 28 degrees. Its a calm place to take rest during holidays. Nobody is permitted to come out of their room after 6 pm due to the presence of wild animals. Its not fake as they have shown us wild animals such as bear an leopard through night vision camera videos. But Icould not enjoy it for more than 1 day. The pool is good . The forest is also not tropical rain forest its shrub forest. You will not see big trees here. Road from ooty is little risky drive. I started my journey from coimbatore . From mettupalayam to ooty there are 14 hair pins. Those are ok easy to drive. There are 36 hair pins from ooty to masinagudy. The width of the road is not much also hair pins are steeper compared to ooty road.i was on my swift . Return journey was tough to climb this steeper hair pins . May be an suv will be a good option to have trip to this place.room that we got were not up to my expectation. I was been given a red building eventhough they have shown another picture in the website. Itwas one big room with attached bathroom. It was clean but not worth of 3598 rs/night. Food is costly. Its 1500/person.there are some activities but you have to pay again some extra amount for it. Hospitality is good. If you expect a cold place with lots of trees and a misty environment , this is not the place for you. You will have to stay in ooty for that. If you climb down from ooty you are in the shrub forest with many wild life around you, and be ready to stay in the room .

Been here for a weekend trip from Bangalore. Good place and frequented by wildlife. The pool is amazing with the view of mountains.. Quite friendly staff! The food served was really tasty and both my vegetarian and non vegetarian friends were quite happy. The evening presentation on wildlife is also educating and entertaining as well. If you are looking for a relaxing holidays in the nature then this is the place.

Masinagudi overall was a brilliant experience. to top it all, the place: Jungle Retreat, makes it better. everything here is perfect. the tree house where we stayed is different unlike the other tree houses elsewhere. the food, the people... all very good. the view from the pool, is worth all the money & time that you spend to get there!!

would deffo come back in a short while and would also recommend this to others.

Room Tip: Tree house: don't miss it!

This lodge was built 15 years ago in a bare area. Now it has a dozen rooms, in a lush environment that has attracted a large amount of wildlife. After dark, a guard will escort you to your room, just in case you cross the path of an unhappy elephant!
You will probably not see elephants or leopard there; but deer, giant squirrels and especially langurs (black face monkey). However you are one hour away from the Bandipur tiger reserve (in Karnataka) where they organize long trail rides in jeeps where you will encounter elephants, gaurs, sloths and smaller wildlife if you do not lucky enough to meet a tiger.
The rooms are set as duplexes (two rooms next to each other in one villa, each villa well separated from the next. The rooms are very large, high ceiling, modern, well lit, large windows, a King bed, and a sitting area. The bathroom is also good sized, with a separated shower area. We had hot water most of the time. No TV or WiFi in the room, but WiFi, occasionally, in the restaurant/lobby area.
The restaurant food is very good, set as a buffet, for breakfast as well as dinner with a large choice and well prepared (we did not try lunch but have no reason to believe it would be different).
Beautiful swimming pool with a nice view of the mountain range.
Staff is extremely welcoming and pleasant.

Room Tip: We were in room 8, if I remember well, and every morning at 6:45am, I was woken up by some guy on th...

A retreat in the jungle you want, and that's what you get! Been here thrice and intend to keep returning. Apart from the warm staff and delicious food (Don't miss a single meal!....And try the chocolate pancakes!), the rooms are good too.

It's not surprising to see a lot of folks who've been here feeling exactly the same during, and at the end of the stay. The place stays with you even after you leave. Bang in the middle of the jungle, the property is extremely peaceful. Spaced out perfectly, one of the standard rooms, where we stayed in, is comfortably more than basic (which works well, given the quaint and rustic feel in some parts of the Retreat), but very neat and clean. Irrespective of which room you stay in, there's a delicious view to be had. More often than not, you'll run into a herd of deer grazing or spot a mongoose scampering across the property. Although not a cat, we spotted a variety of wildlife. Just the place if you'd like to capture all this and the green on camera, many lazy walks to take, colourful birds to spot.

The hosts as well as the staff are extremely courteous and warm. The main dining area is a nice spot, where many conversations can be had over delicious f&b. The pets (mostly dogs) are an extension of the team running the show and a very peaceful bunch of guys!! You can spend a lot of time just around them and never get bored.

Thanks Sushmita, Aniket, Smriti, Rohan, Danny and the staff for the good times!!

Room Tip: 1. Don't forget to carry water back to your rooms. 2. Aug is a nice time to travel, just to wit...
