“Excellent Property”
Reviewed April 25, 2014

The property is excellent, being located at a distance inside the plantation. The drive to the place seems really wild. Safaris were well organized and exciting. Food was excellent. Staff were very courteous and professional. Masinagudi safaris into the forest were quite unprofessional and there weren't much sightings.

The resort is located at the edge of a coffee estate overlooking the forest.
We parked our vehicle at the singara checkpost and called up the resort folks to pick us up. It was a short 15 min bumpy ride till the resort through the coffee estate.
Once we reached we were greeted with welcome drinks. The manager Mr Shibu gave us a brief description about the facilities of the resort and the various rules we will have to adhere to.
Alcohol is not available at the resort. In case you have carried it along with you, the manager informed us to consume it inside the rooms.

We were 2 couples and only tribal rooms were available that weekend. The tribal rooms were spacious and clean. They had two extra cots and could easily house 4 people. Our room was located at the edge of the resort closer to the watering hole.

Before lunch since we had little time to kill, we decided to go to the machan near the watering hole. When we were about to reach the watering hole, we understood the true meaning of staying "Inn the wild", near the watering hole we had the first encounter with wildlife. We got to see lot of deers and langurs relaxing near the watering hole. The machan gives a brilliant view of the watering hole and parts of the forest.

The lunch was excellent, special mention to the soup served that day. In the evening there is nature walk, where a guide takes you into the forest, with the hope of sighting animals. We decided to opt for nature walk early in the morning instead.

At night, the resort people organize night safari. This is one of the highlights of the stay. The night safari is conducted within the Coffee estate premises. We were not lucky to sight any cats in the night, but the sight of hundreds of twinklings eyes of the deers, rabbits and boars were a sight to behold. Special mention about Mr Shaun who was really knowledgable about wildlife and he was quick to catch the sights and sounds missed by the untrained senses. Mr Shaun actually went out of the way to take us on the night safari the second time, since he had sighted an elephant with another night safari group which went some time after us.

The dinner was again served hot and fresh, leaving us no room to complain about the food or hospitality.

The early morning nature walk was an unique experience. We were able to find porcupine quills, see the bones of a dead elephant and enjoy the fresh air of the forest.

What stood out for us, during our stay at "Inn the wild" was the hospitality, service and the experience.

If you are looking for a resort around Bandipur/Mudumalai to stay with the best of flora and fauna, this is the place. No other surrounding resort would keep you so deep in the forest.

The night safari, nature walk, hanging out at machan - are enthralling experiences. Whenever the guide stops to look deep (because of a sound or sight), your heart starts to beat faster. :-). Food is very decent, rooms are good.

One has to park the vehicle at Singara check post and then drive 2 kms deep into the forest. Because of this, one may not be able to visit Bandipur safari so easily. Every extra pick up/drop at Singara check post will cost you 600 bucks. We paid it once to drive to Bandipur for safari. Also, the check post is closed till 0600 hrs, so you will not be the early bird to Bandipur safari if you are staying in this place (the safari starts at 0630 hrs in the morning). We started exactly at 0600 hrs from Singara checkpost, but could only get 0800 hrs safari.

Depending on the time/season, your luck of seeing different animals may vary. We could spot loads of deers (they rest at night just in front of the rooms), wild boards, peacocks, some birds and elephants. Tigers/leopards are not seen (Lions are not in that area).

Also, since it is deep in the forest, if power/water stops flowing in, it will take a long time to get it restored because of the remoteness of the place. But, compared to the experience one has at the stay, it is nothing. Hospitality is very good, though things are a bit expensive.

Currently their jungle safari has been banned by Govt (owing to foreign national's death). My recommendation is go there once it resumes. The experience will be manifold. All in all, a very nice experience for us to be in the jungle with all the beauty of the nature.

We stayed here for two nights and it was a very good experience. The rooms are spacious and clean. The food is quite good, considering the location. But then this is not a place where you go to enjoy food or the cottage ... it's the surroundings that will take your breath away! Situated right at the fringes of the forest, with no electric fencing or any kind of protection, the resort lets you experience the wild unperturbed. The resort is a very different place during the day and night. At nights it is surrounded by hoards of deers and wild boars ... and you can hear elephants trumpeting and grunting. We could actually hear a tiger calling from somewhere in the vicinity at night! ... so expect broken sleep not due of the room or the bed but due to the various wildlife sounds you might hear all through the night. We were also very lucky to witness a heavy downpour in the jungle. The night safari is thrilling and makes you respect the jungle at night! ...
One of things the resort needs to work on is protection and safety of guests. Definitely not a place to go with children. But If you are passionate about the forest or a Kenneth Anderson fan, this is the place for you.

Room Tip: Choose the treehouse only if you have a strong heart

It's a good stay for a day. The over all package is nice.
Night safari is good.
Food is good.
Hospitality is descent.

But they need to improve on their infrastructure. Rooms are very basic and should be more clean. Lots of flies in the night. No AC no TV. No mini bar.
They need to work a lot on the accommodation part.

Location is good but It's quite hot in summers. Property needs lot of maintainence.
If you are looking for a star hospitality, then you may get disappointed.
It is not the right option for a long stay.

Note : They charge for Rs 50 for bisleri water bottles. That's not included in the package. And they won't inform you beforehand.

Overall a descent stay but only for a night with complete package - 3 meals, bonfire, nature walk, night safari.

My friends and I had a stay at “Inn the Wild” last weekend as part of our wildlife trip to Masinagudi. At first we thought this resort was bit expensive, as we didn’t demand luxury for a stay in the wild. But once we got there it was totally a different outlook. We stayed at Jungle Shack and package we opted for included breakfast, lunch and dinner, a nature walk and a night safari plus miscellaneous things.

The resort is situated in a valley which happens to be the migration route of the animals during summer. There are no fences around the property. The location is spotless surrounded by essence of nature. You really feel like you are in the middle of a jungle. Early mornings and late evenings provide a much better view and the only thing you hear is the sounds of animals. The most talking point of this resort is the hospitality they provide. The staffs are so friendly. They listen to your requests and do their best to make your stay a very memorable one. We stayed their only for a night still we had so many fond memories.

The food was excellent. Rooms were clean and beds were tidy. You really can’t complain anything about these here. The night safari was satisfactory though it was only for an hour. But the most loved feature of this trip was the nature walk headed by naturalist Suneesh. Though it is supposed to be only for 45 minutes, if you are interested the walk may last as long as 3 hours.

Suneesh walked us through various zones of the forest. His knowledge on flora and fauna of western ghats, particularly the Mudhumalai region is impeccable. He explained us on behavior of tigers, leopards, bisons and sloth bears and their habitat. His vision on how tiger balances the eco system left us overwhelmed.

We saw spotted deers, sambar deers, rabbits and malabar giant squirrel during our walk. Though we did not spot any big cats, we witnessed fresh pug marks of a tiger-bison battle and also heard the tiger roar from not a very far distance. It was the wildlife experience and understanding of the wild in close proximity of predators which gave us immense satisfaction. We strongly recommend a walk into the jungle accompanied by Suneesh if you really want an ultimate in the wild experience.

Other facilities like Machan, Waterhole, Bon-fire etc were rejuvenating. Overall we were happy that we chose “Inn the Wild” for our stay and were more than happy for our experiences and hospitality for the amount we paid. We would like to thank Jim, Michael, Suneesh, Asjad, Vivek and other staffs of the resort for their wonderful job.

Room Tip: For stay with friends Jungle Shacks are the best. If you travelling as a couple, opt for the single...

I have been here with my wife and kid, last November (2013). We had been to Masinagudi before, experienced hospitality and comfort. This one was on the wilder side. You have to park your car near Singara Post, they arrange your transport from there. the road is not a road at all for the cars. We reached bit late, the lunch was over. My son and wife were starving but they had nothing left. The food and hospitality I would say is average, but that is not what you are there for. The grass land was something you don't get to see usually on a resort, but only in "Inn the wild", Loved the wilderness. If u love bird watching you have a sweet spot, a waterhole inside the property. There is a night safari just to get the kick of it, nothing much spotted. The tree house was full, the one beside the water hole is something I would definitely want to try next time.
