wildlife experience with a touch of class
When I made our booking in April 2012, I thought I might be taking a bit of a chance, because there were few reviews, although their website sounded good. Since then there have been several positive posts, and now we have visited, here is another! We had a fabulous stay. We arrived early afternoon, and were rustled up sandwiches at short notice. We went on a plantation walk and saw deer, wild boar, peacocks and a giant squirrel. We sat in the rocking chairs on our return and watched the antics of the langurs in the garden. We went for a jeep safari as dusk arrived, seeing deer, rabbits and a nightjar with a spotlight. The delicious dinner was beautifully served in the dining room and afterwards we sat out by candlelight and saw a family of wild boar walk across the garden. We were up early in the morning for a trek, and saw several beautiful birds, bear and leopard prints, more deer and squirrels and finally a glimpse of an elephant retreating into the bush! We would like to thank Anikethan and Masna for making the nature viewing part of our stay so interesting. Their knowledge and keen eyesight were key to our wildlife spotting. Back for a shower and a lovely breakfast, and unfortunately our visit was over. All the staff were friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble, and we would certainly return if our path brought us back this way.

Set among the decidous forests of Bandipur the reort with its old world british charm was really inviting. What hit us was the impeccable elegant taste of the interiors.Well maintained with a lot of personal touch.

Once you get to the Singara check post , its best to opt for a jeep ride to get to the resort....the journey is short but very bumpy ...but then you are in an adventure zone ! The resort (not the spa variety ) is a 20 mins drive into the forest. Once you get there, the rooms/ cottages are a pleasant surprise. We were 2 couples (one with a child) were given the cottages which had a private sit out.The rooms here are spacious and the bathrooms equally large. Barring in the middle of the night , we got running hot water in the bathrooms. The decor is tastefully done and the staff more than willing to make you comfortable .We spent new year's eve here and the staff went out of their way to make it special. They arranges for a "after dark" safari, a live bbq (yummy!)and even lit the place with candles at the stroke of twelve ! The weather was warmer than what we expected and we requested for pedestal fans at night...which they obliged . The food is served in the common dining area......simple yet tasty. You can take a walk in the area with an escort or go for a guided trek. We got to see spotted deer and antelopes right next to our cottages. The monkeys however are a menace and are all over the property...remember to keep your rooms locked id you step out for a walk. The staff here...Deepak (Manager), Babu ( man friday ), Shantanu, Salim.....made our stay memorable......extremely pleasant , accommodating and efficient !

Room Tip: Try and stay in rooms away from the dining hall to experience a quiet stay .

As we went on a weekday, it was just four of us (2 copules) and we had the whole bungalow for ourselves. Don't expect luxury spa resort facilities here. The charm is in staying at a very old cottage in the huge coffee estate. The staff there are all ordinary people not trained in hotel management. So that actually makes you feel at home. Yummy homely food. Plantation walk hearing the caretaker's stories is a thrill. A little concerned over the no parking lot at the check post and the room get stuffy at night as u cant open the windows (no grills). Read more of my travel experience at rashmisreedharan.blogspot.in/2012/10/forest-thrills-at-masinagudi.html

Room Tip: there are 2 bedrooms with a common living room. Opt that if 2 families are going together.

I have been to The Wilds at Northern Hay in Masinagudi three times in last one year. The place is a heaven for nature and wildlife lovers. The best time to visit though would be during the monsoon when there is enough movement of wildlife in the region. The staff is quite friendly and helpful, especially Shantanu who allows me to get behind the wheels of the Thar he owns :-)
The approach to the resort is from Singara post, through a 3 km off-road terrain, which is better done in a 4X4 jeep.

It was an exciting trip to Masinagudi and stay at The Wilds, room was exceptionally large and a beautiful bed in it. One good thing while you are visiting jungle is close to nature and this accomodation was right in the middle of plantation.

We reached using a SUV which was absolutely not a proble but if you are driving your car with low clearance it might be better to leaves this on forest post.

One thing I cannot forget about the place was the Cook, every morning we are asked what we would like eat whole day and he would prepare a 3 course meal with stunning flavours.

During the visit management took care of us very well and ensure that we take the early morning safari in an open Gypsy.

I would highly recomend this place if you are not a blackberry and a TV addict.

Room Tip: If you have a car with low clearance you can keep at Forrest post.
