“One of the best in Masinagudi”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 2, 2013

I am a frequent visitor around the Niligiri area & this place to me is undeniably one of the best resorts at Masinagudi. This is an apt location to spend time with friends & family. Since this is one of the last resorts almost touching the jungle boundary you may have frequent visitors from the wild. So stay alert & don't disturb them ;-)

Ambiance, food & stay are a big plus & are worth the money you pay.

My recommendations:

1, Try the tree house tents
2, Jungle trek with the in house guide (Don't try to go alone, you will be lost or will become a meal for some animal)
3, Visit the temple on hill (visible from the resort)

Finally, since this is a jungle resort, have fun responsibly by not spoiling the nature

Room Tip: The tree house tents facing the mountain

We spent 2 night on the new year eve at this resort. It is situated at the foothills of Nilgiri mountain range. Being the new year the place was completely booked. It has cottages and tent houses. We could not get the booking for a cottage even tough I booked 2 months in advance, and we settled for tent. the name is tent but the tent is covered from all sides under a hut shape structure and has an attached bathroom (wow) The Owner "David" is a very nice person and he suggested us few tips for our stay. Tents were very comfortable, had ample blankets, neat and clean. It even had a hammock outside the tent which my daughter loved a lot.

It is a very calm and quiet place away from the maddening city crowd.

The food was very very good, the spread and the taste, just perfect.

We even spotted some deer outside our tent in the evening and early morning.
The new year party was some kind of spoiler, though they had a magician performing for the kids and lots and lots of fireworks which the kids enjoyed a lot. But the snacks and starters promised by them came very very late. Apart from this, I cannot think of anything negative about the place.

One more thing.. for the new year party, we were allowed to get our own drinks and they did not force us to buy drinks from their in house restaurant , which is something I have never experienced before.

Tamilnadu government does not allow private jungle safari's to go inside the forest so we hired a jeep provided by the resort. These jeeps only rn on the tar road (the Bandipur - Ooty highway etc) so chances of spotting wildlife are very less. We saw few deer and a baby Elephant family.

Overall very satisfied with the place.

Room Tip: Resort has cottages and tents. We stayed in a tent and really enjoyed the experience.

Distance from Bangalore 260KM approx.
Road condition good. Bangalore to Mysore is 4 lane crowded, Mysore to Masinagudi is mostly double lane, irritating at times but road condition is good.
Location of this resort is easy to find, follow the instructions from Mr. David who is the host of this property. After masinagudi town, take second right after a small bridge. This place is 4.9KM on this single lane road.

Best part of this property is its location, cleanliness, attitude of the staff. Rooms are very very basic – wrought iron bed, one rack with hanger, fan. That’s it. But room was absolutely neat and tidy, bathrooms very clean with fittings in five star condition. Bath tub, water quality, hot water everything just perfect. Bedding, towels without any smell and condition beats any 4 star Chennai hotel. Every room has swing nets in front.

This resort is located on foot hills of a big mountain which is true for entire masinagudi. It is so close to the forest that you can see deers grazing inside the property many times in a day. In the free time, which one is expected to have a lot, near by forests can be visited in your own vehicle. Need not to take any safari option. There is a decent stream singara which kids can enjoy. Elephant feeding camp every day at 5.30 is delight for kids.

Staff is very polite and try to serve guest in best possible ways. We went to this place during New Year time – 30th, 31st Dec. all 22 rooms were fully occupied. Staff in limited number tried their best to please all.

Few things which could have been better and delight the guests- starting trouble
1. Welcome of the guests is really cold. We reached by 1.15 in the afternoon and rooms were not ready even by 2.30 PM. Even the lunch was not ready so that we could have passed the time.
2. Two types of rooms- one facing the mountain and other facing the opposite side. If your room is not facing the mountain, first feeling is very depressing.
3. We were two families and specifically requested for two adjacent rooms, it was not adhered to.

Despite all this, the staff manages to please you. They compensate the above misses moment they realize the issue. One example I would like to mention – being vegetarian we felt that there were not enough offerings in the barbeque on New Year Eve. Within 10-15 mins of us raising the concern on this, staff made exceptional effort to get some more veg dishes prepared.

A small distraction- they have close to 10-15 dogs open all the time. Reason given was protection against wild animals. They were harmless and friendly but it can be a bit of distraction if it bothers you.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms facing the mountain.

Finding the place would be difficult .. since there are not many boards showing the way to this place.. however, that is no measure of the beauty of this place.

The mountain view and the resort is just awesome !

We took 2 rooms and both of them were mountain facing rooms, Early morning, we woke up to see deers grazing just outside our rooms.. this was a scene that I dont think I will forget for quite sometime.. the resort is a very well maintained place.

Rooms are clean, very nicely done.. they have carrom, shuttle badminton, chess, TT, football, cricket, volleyball.. and the best part is, they have space to let you play all these games.

Every day in the evening, after it gets dark and before your dinner, there will be a camp fire.. very nice and thrilling experience..

Food was outstanding.. we wanted simple veg food, and the cook was kind enough to ask us what we wanted to eat and cooked according to that..

There is continuous Hot water in the room and the bathrooms are also clean and tidy..

Overall, a good and nic experience.. On the cost side also, the place is not very expensive, however.. its on the costlier side.. :)

Room Tip: Choose mountain facing rooms - Wake up to a super and Scenic morning.. Do not try tents during wi...

If you love the mountains and the hills, wildlife, greenery, sounds of nature all around you, head over to Bear Mountain in Mudumalai. The first thing we were just awestruck by was the view of the mountains as you enter the resort. You have to just go there and see it for yourself as no words and pictures can do justice. One is lost for words!
The resort offers various types of rooms from deluxe, cottages to camps. We stayed in the deluxe room. Both the room and the attached bathroom (with a tub)were very spacious and the room had its individual hammock in front.
The food at the multi-cuisine restaurant is really delicious and of very high quality ( a rarity in jungle resorts – and we have stayed in many).
The resort has lots to offer – from jungle safaris – both on foot and by jeep, badminton, an open level field where you can play cricket, football or basically anything you feel like playing. For the indoor types, there is the usual carom board and other board games.
You have to appreciate, respect and love nature to enjoy jungle resorts and if you are in this category, one is guaranteed a fantastic time here which is what we had.

We had gone on a official trip to this place from Chennai. It is set on a huge area in deep mountain territory, bordering Mudhumalai forests. The place is not of 5 star comfort, but whatever is there is neat and clean. Right from the beddings, toilets and other appliances, furnishing is sparse, but neatly maintained.

Food here is amazing and staff is very courteous. The manager, Rex might even take you out on his nightly rounds, where you may see some wild animals, if you are lucky and not drunk!!

Spotted deer, wild rabbits, elephants, wild boars can be seen in and around the resort..

Nice place for a short visit along with friends!
