“GREAT PLACE”
Reviewed December 17, 2010

Very cool place in Kamala, everything is new and well designed. The Guest house is located very close to the beach and the restaurant, but is not noisy. The room was nice and very clean, the manager helpful, and free wifi was included in the price. I would definitely recommend this place.

We were looking for something different than the big resorts, both in atmosphere and cost, and we found it at PapaCrab. The guesthouse rooms have been remodeled, leaving them modern, clean, and bright. They did a great job with the colors and lines in room.....you feel as though are in a new resort but paying half the price! The location is wonderful as well....close to the beach, bars and restaurants in Kamala. I would recommend PapaCrab to anyone looking for a small, quaint guesthouse with a modern and fresh feel.

This place under new management. I advise not to stay here!

Unless you like... cockroaches, ants, bad smells, dirty sheets, loud noises, school children screaming early morning from the school next door!

Stay Away...you can find much better places to stay at a better price too.

Since may 2010 this place is under new family management again. We provide you with clean and fresh renovated accomodation.
The school of Kamala is in our neighbourhood. In the morning the national anthem is sung and during recess the children play in the schoolyard, the way usually children do. We live in the same buliding and felt never disturbed. Anyway in the course of the renovations in 2010, all rooms are equipped now with additional aluminum sliding doors (in order to increase the efficiency of the air conditioning systems and for a better acoustic insulation).

Papa Crab guesthouse is a great option for anyone looking for a no-frills guesthouse located on a quiet beach. (Note: We stayed in the regular rooms not the bungalow type.) The rooms are clean and decent, but there is nothing more to it. There is no front desk & no phones in the room. This was the 1st time we stayed @ such place and ended up missing these conviniences; regardless of the hotel level, it's always nice to have a front desk to help you out, answer questions, point you in the right place, etc. Also, without a phone in the room, you can forget wake up calls and trying to meet friends.

As for Kamala, the beach is quiet, nice and with some good restaurant options.

I stayed in this very attractive looking guest house nov 25th untill dec 11th. First of all we were given a room which looked ok but was very small. After a 24 hour journey we had the worst night as the walls are paper thin and we could hear dogs barking workmen talking and banging all night, then at 7 am the school tanoy would go and the kids would sing the national anthem. Then the football would start. This building is right next to the school, so this happens every day. We requested a room change and had to wait 2 days. We got moved to the back which was a bit better but not much. There was no hot water which we asked to be fixed. After a week we got tepid water. The maid never washed the floor or cleaned the toilet with detergent. We got clean towels 3 times in 16 nights. Sheet change once and the fan sounded like a road digger. I averaged about 4 hours sleep a day and that was with ear plugs. The beds were so close together that my friend and i had bruises all over the top of our legs to the point that i was stopped at the beach to be asked if we fight. These rooms are only for you if you are deaf or want to be up and out by 7.30. Not good.

New Management - November 2008

Our policy when receiving requests from guests is to act instantly, if we have a spare room available and are requested by a light sleeper to change we would do so immediately. There is some noise from the school, for short periods and on some days, some people like the sound of childrens laughter, I sleep on site and am never woken early moring by any such noise.

All rooms have been overhauled and all have constant functioning hot water.

Floors are washed daily, sheets and towels changed daily.

Ceiling Fans and Air Con have all been overhauled, all functioning and silent.

Single Bedded rooms are 13 feet wide, only tight if a third single bed is requested for the room, no understanding to bruises??.

My husband and I were very much looking forward to a few relaxing days at the beach at the end of a two-week trip to Thailand. We picked Papa Crab's and had arranged to stay in one of their bungalows. About a week before we left, we e-mailed the hotel to confirm our reservation and didn't hear back from anyone - that should have been our warning...

We arrived in the pouring rain and were told that the bungalows were not available anymore - the roofs were leaking and the waves were apparently getting dangerously close to the house. The staff were completely unhelpful and we relied on the kindness of a local developer working out of the main floor of the hotel to help us figure out where to go for the night. To be fair, the staff did show us one of the hotel rooms - but a sparse room with a bare mattress and windowless bathroom a few blocks walk to the beach didn't compare to what we were promised. The bungalows might be great - but we never got the chance to find out.
