After I had made a backpack tour through Thailand, Papacrab was my last stop and I was hooked from the first moment. The rooms were well maintained, well equipped and clean. Every day the beds were made??, it smelled delicious to eat tasty. The owners were friendly and very helpful äßerst. The shower gel which was placed smelled great. Since the room was very quiet, I could very well relax. The beach was just a 2 minute walk. Thank you for the nice days!

This was the first stop on our list and what a good start! The room and bathroom was clean and tidy, no complaints. We were a few minutes walk from both 7-11stores if we needed anything and very close to the beach! Being next to the school didn't bother us, we slept just fine especially with those super blackout curtains. Charlie and his wife were very welcoming, friendly and helpful, especially when we needed to make calls, send a few faxes and emails to South Africa, to sort out some private business.

We felt really welcomed. We are a family with two 7y old kids and we wanted to spend there few days and moved somewhere else, but we stayed in Papa Crab all 10 days because it was so good. The place is new and beautiful and with style. The location is great, two minutes from one of the best beaches in Phuket. Directly on the beach there are small restaurants and bars so everything is convenient. Don't need to mention that everything was cheaper than in Patong or Kata, from beach chair and massage to accommodation, really good value. And the owners were relaxed, friendly and extremely helpful, you just feel you have backing when you need it. We are traveling a lot through Thailand but this was something extra.

Papa Crab Guesthouse is one of the best places I've ever stayed in. Charlie (owner) provides exquisite service. The rooms are modern and well maintained. Apart from very affordable rates, it's location is so close to shops and Kamala Beach. Charlie also organised a day trip for us to visit the tourist spots in the nearby area. He and his wife are just lovely! There's no doubt that next time I go back to Phuket I'll definitely stay in Papa Crab Guesthouse again. I highly recommend it to tourists on a budget and yet not compromising their place to stay. Some people say you get what you pay for, but I say, staying at Papa Crab you will get so much more than what you paid for.

Room Tip: Our room was at the ground level and it's perfect (I think it's room 1). The room size is big enough for me and my husband.

Stayed at PapaCrab over Christmas 2011. We had arranged transport through the B&B, so a driver was waiting for us at Phuket Airport and within 35 minutes we were at the guesthouse. Given the price paid over the holidays period and the negative points below, this guesthouse is slightly overrated. But for a short stay, PapaCrab is a fine choice.

Positive
Owner welcomed us at 3AM with a smile.
Less than 1 minute walk to Kamala beach.
The entrance with the fish pond provides a nice welcoming touch.
The room design (with some quotes on the wall) was quite nice.

Negative
- Persistent sewage smell from the shower drain (we were in room #9)
- The reception office is staffed until around 1 p.m. No indication of office opening hours, no sign providing a number to call, no buzzer to contact the owners. The entrance gate is always open, which means that anyone can just walk in (they do have a small videocamera facing the entrance). The sliding glass doors to the room are not very solid with a tiny lock, so we were somewhat concerned about leaving our laptop and other belongings that could not fit into the safe
-On our 2nd day, the cleaning lady neither refilled the shower gel nor replaced the small soap which had become tiny and unusable by then. After a day at the beach and with no staff in sight and no number to call, the only option is to head to the 7-11 for shower gel.
- Looks like the owners had renovated the B&B at the end of 2010 and since then not sure if they have invested a single Baht since. One towel was torn and our bedsheet had a hole. The handle of the drawer kept falling off. Besides the nasty smell mentioned above, the shower area had some sort of black algae around the drain. And the bedside lamps were so loose in their sockets that they would keep turning on and off.
- Our 1st floor room was facing a school playground. This means that during every break there are kids playing and shouting outside. This is not a problem as such, but since the sliding glass door provides no sound isolation whatsoever so for a lazy vacation day with late wake-up, rooms facing the school are not ideal.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms facing the school if you are a light sleeper.

Management response:Responded June 22, 2012

Dear r1d,
thank you for your feedback on TripAdvisor. First of al please allow me to apologize for any inconvenience we may caused. And we would have been grateful to hear about your problems during your stay with us in order to get a chance to solve your problems immediately on location, but unfortunately you wrote your review 6 months later.
But anyway we’ll take your comments seriously:
• Our drainage system especially in the bathrooms is not well realised (like in many buildings in Thailand) but we were starting a spezial cleaning treatment to avoid any bad smell in the future.
• As we are a small boutique guesthouse, I take care our reception almost always alone (we dont have dozens of supporting staff). And for that day (by the way 25th of December 2011) you are right: I was allowing myself a break in the afternoon, after welcoming you at 3 am on the same day. And sorry that you didn’t notice our buzzer and the provided phone number.
• Our cleaning staff is instructed to refill or replace shower gel or soaps in the bathrooms. They are also encouraged to let us know any kind of damage or lack of funktionality in the rooms.
• The school of Kamala is in our neighbourhood. During recess the children play in the schoolyard, the way usually children do. We live in the same buliding and felt never disturbed. Anyway in the course of the renovations, all rooms are equipped with additional aluminum sliding doors (in order to increase the efficiency of the air conditioning systems and for a better acoustic insulation).
We look forward to welcoming you again, giving us another opportunity to serve you better.

Best regards from Phuket island
Charly H.
