“Spectacular... but not for the right reasons”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2010

We went to see this with a group of friends, and after a recommendation not to have the dinner from our local tour guide/representative, we did it anyway. There was lots of food, but it was all of average quality, and even though the hot dishes were in bain maries, they were still all cold/ lukewarm.

The show was very hard to follow and in some parts, very amateurish. The elephants were good, but I spent the whole show waiting for something good to happen, and unfortunately, was still waiting by the end.

I'm not sure what was more spectacular- how gaudy/ cheesy/ tacky it all was, how many people they try to squeeze in their mess hall, sorry "buffet restaurant" (seats 4000?), or that some of our friends came out thinking it was the best.

To be fair, I think this would be a good attraction for kids or for those people who like looking at flashing lights. If you don't fall in either of these categories, spend your money elsewhere.

“Don't Bother”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2010

Fantasea was a complete let down. I had been excited to go after hearing people had returned three times to the island just to see this show, however, during our performance, many people left early, and of those that stayed at least half appeared disappointed. The show had some dance, a story that was so simple and yet not interesting to follow, some magic from the nineties, and the worst part of it for me was seeing elephants perform. The latter made my gut wrench, to think that these beautiful mammals were being made to perform for our entertainment. I also witnessed a young Tiger Cub being forced to have pictures taken with tourists prior to the show by what appeared to be making it starve all day so that it could be made to comply by giving it many bottles of milk. Its just a money grabbing exercise, spend your money elsewhere, otherwise see this at your own risk.

“Just another place to take your cash!!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2010

We booked this trip not really knowing what it entailed, save for some Thai dancing and elephants plus dinner. We were dropped off from our hotel at Fantasea at about 6 and were suprised to learn that the show did not start until 9pm. There was not a lot to do for 3 hours but spend money in the numerous expensive gift shops or be enticed into handing over cash for fairground type stalls. To give the attraction its due, it is similar to a Thai Disney Small Small World and there are many cute things to look at however under all the glitz and glamour it is nothing more than a cash cow for its owners and particularly expensive for Thailand. Everywhere you go, you are being called to go into the shop or have a go at a stall, not much different than shopping in a Phuket market, pretty annoying in our book. We paid for dinner plus the gold seats. The buffet dinner is not worth the cost. It is a massive hall like a canteen where you share tables with hundreds of others and walk quite a way to get your food, you pay for the drinks. We left without eating much. Even the chips were hard and cold and my kids are not fussy at all. The show itself is fine and sometimes a bit random but is not bad, particularly the trapeze bit. I wouldn't bother paying extra for the gold seats as there is stuff going on all over for any type of seat to have a good view. The downside for us was watching the elephants performing all of their tricks. In this day and age it felt wrong for them to be subject to loud fireworks and commands to stand on their hind legs etc for applause. Be ready to be ferried around like cattle and have to hand over your cameras and mobile phones before the start of the show and then queue with hundreds of people after the show to get them back - not great for kids post 10pm. Overall, it is something to do if you don't have much else to do and are staying nearby, but it is not a must see by any stretch of the imagination unless you are a massive fan of theme parks (without any rides) or elephants (altho saying that, if you have any feeling for elephants then you will be saddened by watching them perform).

“Must See In Phuket”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2010

This place is a great man-made attraction.
The the architecture & details on their majestic buildings (esp the theatre building) are really a sight to behold.
The roughly 2 hr show was great & will esp appeal to children. Lots of acrobatics, animals & pyrotechnics too!

Remember to bring a camera with a good flash because most of the best photo locations are under the night sky.
Go early to explore the grounds & take lots of pictures!

“A show worthy of Las Vegas”

What an amazing experience - well worth the entry fee. Dinner in the massive restaurant average. But what a show!! 16 elephants, chickens, goats, buffaloes all running across the stage. trapeze performers, dancers. Truly spectacular. If you get the chance, dress in authentic Thai costumes in the Photo Shop. You are dressed, make-up, crowned, and paraded around the picturesque grounds for photos. Cost about AUD30 per person
