“Beautiful looking resort but bad location and uncomfortable rooms”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2012

My husband and I stayed here on a six night stay through getaway lounge as part of our honeymoon in Thailand. This resort is beautiful looking and the swim up pool was excellent and we made good use of it during happy hour. The cocktails were delicious and cheap too. The pool was really lovely and there were 2 others to choose from which looked just as relaxing. The guys at the front bell captain desk were really friendly, funny and helpful. Now for the downside.....we confirmed our booking with the resort just like we did with another resort and gave our flight details etc and thought it was all finalised. We got to the airport and no one was waiting to pick us up. A rep from the Radisson offered to help us and call our resort and they told us that they hadn't organised a pick up and that we should just make our own way to the resort. Not a great start, but once we got there the staff were friendly and the resort looked great. Our room smelt quite over powering with a mouldy smell which made it difficult to sleep during the first few nights...it seemed to lesson over the time we were there. The bed was extremely hard and gave us both a sore back, however the pillows were pretty good. The 1.5 hr massage package we got as part of our package was absolutely awesome, we had got a few thai massages by the time we got to phuket, but this one was by far the best and just awesome. We would have loved to have more of them but they were quite expensive and we were running low on cash after all our shopping. The resort had a shuttle bus that went to Kamala beach and Patong, however they were only 4 times a day and we found this hard to fit in with our day if we had a tour or something organised that day and during our last 2 days we couldn't get seats on the shuttles because a large group was booking it out. There was no alternative offered to us, so it was left to us to find another way around. We found the location and the minimal shuttle bus time options very limiting during our stay. When it came to check out and we wanted to confirm that they were arranging us a transfer to the airport, there was again confusion and the staff had to check with other staff and we only had confirmation that they were going to order us a taxi 1/2hr before we had to leave for the airport. Overall, it's a lovely looking resort but the location and tired and uncomfortable rooms made this somewhere that we wouldn't return.

My wife and I have just come back from our first holiday to Phuket (07/09/12 to 13/09/12). we had booked a six night stay at the Aqua Marine Resort and Villas through Getaway lounge.
When we arrived we were taken to our pool view room.
To say that the smell was bad is an understatement, there was black mould growing all over the walls of the shower making breathing nearly impossible.
After waking back down to the reception to ask to be put in another room, the duty manager founds us another room, we then went to the next room and you could smell the mould from outside without opening the door, this room was worse than the first.
I then went back to reception and asked the duty manager to accompany me to the room so as she could see what we were talking about.
We were then asked to wait down at the bar while the sourced the third room of the night for us. We were served at the bar by a very rude and arrogant bar person.
All this time the duty manager pretended not to understand what the issue was, by the time they took us to the third room it was 10:30 at night. This room was marginally better but not inhabitable for our stay.
We put up with it for the night so as we could get some sleep, well if you can sleep on what felt like a concrete slab instead of a bed well good luck to you.
When we packed up and took our bags down to reception first thing in the morning and told the manager we were booking out they were not surprised and didn’t care one bit that we were leaving after only one night.
The also charged us for the drinks we had while waiting at the bar for the to sort out our room the previous night.
We went into Patong and booked into the Holiday Inn and had a great stay with them for the rest of our Holiday.
This is no way a reflection on Getaway lounge how have been very supportive and help us out over and above in rectifying this situation with Aqua Marine and Villas
Regards
Peter & Shelley

This resort is everything that a holidaymaker would want however it is not really a place for the elderly or people with a disabilkity because it is built up a hill. The Resort does have buggies that will drive people to the level where their room is so that isn't so bad.
Though the reception staff tried to accommodate me realising that I had a spinal issue the accommodation was closer to their amenities but still required climbing 12 steps to /fromreception and another 22 steps to restaurants. This would not have been a problem for me 2 years ago.
It would be advisable for the Aquamarine Resort to suggest this problem in their on-line advertisements so that people can make their own choice of whether to stay or not.
We are here on the last leg of an 8 night stay and despite the pain of attacking the stairs every day my husband and I feel very rested and have enjoyed our stay very much. It is truly a beautiful place if you are after a peaceful, restful holiday with the choice of catching a shuttle to Patong or Kamaka Beach town, or even taking in a tour somewhere.
The staff are friendly and eager to assist. Any person who can find fault perhaps should consider their own behaviour first. We have travelled extensively and have found that you only get what you give in life. Treat the staff as you would like to be treated yourself and you will be the winner from their hospitality.

My wife and have just spent six nights at this resort and had a wonderful time. We found all staff very friendly although their English was not the best at times but my Thai is no good and after all it is their country we were visiting.
The view was amazing, and although the resort is very hilly they do have the golf buggy to give you a lift as required.
If you want hussle and bustle stay in Kamala or Patong beach, for a rest and only a short ride to these places this is an ideal resort. Although the shuttles are only at limited times the taxi drivers have to earn a living so at such cheap prices it helps the economy. After all we come to these countries to experience another culture and in these places our tourist dollars are the only way some of these people make a living, after it all it is still a lot cheaper than at home in Australia.

Although jet lagged and tired when we arrived at Aquamarine, my family and I immediately felt relaxed and welcome. Our luggage was unloaded and we were greeted with cool towels and wonderfully cool, refreshing lemon grass tea. As other reviewers have stated the resort is steep (but hey It's on a hill!) and so. We had rooms very close to reception fortunately. Some climbing up stairs was involved. But what a reward when you reach your balcony. The view from the seaview rooms (rooms 4304 and 4303) of the resort and The Andaman Sea are what dreams are made of.

The rooms are on the larger size of small, but more than adequate for two people......who holidays in a room anyway, when the pool and wet bar are inviting you constantly. The lighting was slightly dim with all lights on and the furniture all dark timber, reflecting a Thai theme. The bed is a mattress on the floor and felt like firm futon but was very comfortable. The bathroom toilets were slightly inconvenient to flush and the shower was a bit low and at times difficult to use. In general the room was great but the bathroom could use some freshening up, especially the tub.

The staff were amazing especially the pool bar waiters Add and Wat. They made us feel welcome and happy, and their service was excellent. My 8 year old son loved the wet bar and pool, I think he could have stayed there for the whole holiday. The ladies at breakfast were great and greeted us warmly every morning, by the second morning Pooki new exactly how to serve my wife and I our coffee without asking. The breakfast buffet was generous with a good mixture of Asian and Western breakfast foods, especially enjoyed the rice broth every second morning. We only had dinner at the restaurant for one night, which was complimentary. Rit and the other bellboys were courteous and helpful when ever we needed them, and we so appreciated them carrying our luggage up those stairs! We chose the Thai buffet and the food was good but not as great as the little shack down the road. The cocktails were great, especially The Owners Favourite. Food and drinks were generally more expensive than in town, costing Around $10 for a cocktail and $6 for a beer. We were OK with that as they are still quite cheap for hotel prices. Also a special mentioned to our cleaning lady, who even folded our dirty clothes

My wife and daughter were also treated to a complimentary massage which they thoroughly enjoyed, but much cheaper massages can be found in Patong and at the shack down the road. My wife also had the tailor there make her three dresses, and although satisfied and had excellent service, she was slightly disappointed with he end result.

There is a courtesy bus that runs three times a day to Patong, and returns twice, but book well ahead as seats are limited. The hotel really needs to work on this. Hourly buses go to Kamala beach.

Just outside the hotel is a Taxi rank (the bell boys will call one up if you like). We found one driver who we ended up using all the time, as he was so courteous and welcoming. He took us shopping for two hours in Phuket town, and took us on a day trip around the island. He was also able to organise tours and shows at cheaper prices. His name was James and we would recommend him to anyone.

Then there is the shack, (I think it is called Poo Maas). The food there would be the best and cheapest Thai I have ever tasted (my mum is Malaysian and a great Asian cook!). I highly recommend the fishcakes, prawn cutlets and my favourite - crab in yellow powder. The waitress< Shanti is just wonderful, and she even organised some fresh seafood for me for a special dish of garlic and pepper King prawns in advance. At this shack you can also enjoy a full body massage for $10 under a bamboo hut whilst listening to waves wash onto the shore, just heavenly.

So 8 days and 7 nights of sheer bliss was experienced by my family and I. Yes its far from the hustle of Patong, but it was great to get away from that at the end of the day, and a $13 cab fare is cheap when on Holiday. If you don't like the hills to walk up that's a shame, as its that same slope that provides you with that excellent view. We can't wait to return in March/April next year.A s my says "back to our second home"

PROS: Service, pool, view, shack down the road
CONS: Steep hils for some, bathroom.

My fiance and I stayed here in March 2012 after we obtained a deal on getaway lounge. After spending the first 6 nights of our stay at a resort at Patong Beach, this place was extremely disappointing. The resort was extremely isolated away from Kamala beach so at night we had to get a Tuk Tuk into town to go to dinner as the resort only had 2 restaurants, one being a Thai restaurant, which was nice (but not for dinner 6 nights in a row) and another restaurant which was horrible. On our first night we went to this restaurant for an 'asian feast' smorgasboard. Instead it was expensive and had only a couple meals to choose from, none of which were chicken. As part of our getaway deal we were meant to get welcome drinks, which we did not receive and a spa treatment for 1.5hours each. However when we went to book this, no one was available to take our appointment bookings for the first 3 days even though i made many phone calls (all of which were not returned) and then we were advised that it was all booked out and we couldn't have a treatment done even though it was to be included in the deal. In addition, the rooms were a significant distance away from the restaurant and pool area where we had to trek up hills and then up 2 massive flights of stairs. By the time we got to our room we were physcially exhausted from the walk and heat. There was supposed to be a 'complimentary golf buggy' to take you to your room however we felt so uncomfortable we didn't bother asking after a while as each time we did the staff were rude and would roll their eyes, not wanting to assist. Also the mattresses in the rooms were filthy and hard as concrete which left us with aching backs. The bathrooms were also very old and not well maintained. We will not be returning to this place.
