“A hilltop resort more for families or quiet time.”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

My boyfriend and I had purchased a deal from groupon.sg for a 3D2N stay at this hotel.

Planning - Making reservations was easy enough. They did take quite some time to reply to my initial e-mail though.

Arrival - I had arranged for a return airport transfer service so getting to the hotel from the airport was no issue. The journey was abt 15-20 mins. The hotel offers an airport transfer service as well but we went ahead with phuketshuttle instead as it was cheaper. You can check out their website, http://phuketshuttle.com/. The rates vary depending on how many passengers there are and what kind of vehicle you choose to pick you up.

First Impressions (longest check-in ever) - The resort looked exactly like in the pictures, it wasn't disappointing upon first glance. The resort is located on a hillside so the view is quite something. We were informed that check-in was at 12pm and we had arrived on time. However, upon our arrival and after checking-in at the reception, we were told that our rooms were not ready yet and that we had to wait for about a half hour. We ended up waiting 2 hrs for our room.

Room - When our room was finally ready, we were taken up to a building higher up on a steep hill on a golf buggy. We were suddenly struck by how much we had to walk just to get from our room to the main building.
The room itself however was lovely. Again, exactly like how it was pictured with very pretty traditional looking furniture and small balcony for you to chill out. The bathroom also was lovely with earthy colours and tones. And best of all, it was CLEAN. We experienced a water pressure issue with our shower though, it took almost forever to finish showering because the water basically trickled from the shower head.
The view from the room is serene and calming, however night time can be a bit scary there are banana trees everywhere when you look down from your balcony.

Hotel Grounds/Facilities - The hotel has two pools. The deeper one on the higher level has a bar and the smaller on on the lower level has a few water massage decks you can lie on to relax. Both were beautiful. And CLEAN.

We suspect the resort is fairly new as some areas of the hotel were still being renovated so as far as recreational areas go, there weren't much options. There was a sad excuse for a pool/library room where we tried to pass time in while waiting for our room to be ready. It had one pool table inside which looked to be very old and even had a hole at the bottom so some of the balls came flying out. The books and magazines were outdated and uninteresting and mostly not even in English. Hopefully this room was a temporary solution until the renovations were over.

Food/Dining - The food was decent, just check the cutlery before using them. The fruit smoothies were awesome !

Staff - Most were friendly, but one staff in particular didn't look too happy to help when asked. Not all the staff speak English, so get ready your hand gestures.

Checking out - Checking out was fast and simple. As our flight was not for another 5 hrs, they were nice enough to open another room for us just so we could use the bathroom to freshen up before actually leaving the resort for the airport.

Surrounding area - Kamala Beach is about 10 mins away but the resort's hilltop location makes it difficult to go anywhere by foot. So ideally, you would have to have a vehicle to get in and out. I would suggest renting a vehicle (car/scooter). It's about a half hour drive to Patong Beach where most of the action is so we spent quite a fair amount of $$$ just traveling by taxi - not worth it. Rent a scooter or stay in a hotel nearer or along Patong Beach for more activities.

Overall a pleasant trip but don't think I'd be going back there.

Room Tip: All the rooms are nice and clean. Ask for a room nearer to the main building or hotel lobby to avoid...

Don't stay here from my traveling experience in many countries.

You can find much better & cheaper hotel or resort elsewhere.

I am typing this review while I am staying in this resort on my fourth day today.

I want to caution all of you out there that be prepared to:

1)Nasty service from staffs (this is the only hotel/resort I have stayed to experience this). If you have the extra money and want to experience very rude people, you may like to try this 3 star resort.
2) Incompetent staffs who cannot understand English at all, cannot do what you request from reception to room service even the most basic needs.

While I buy the Internet which is the chop-off from the rude reception staff, it cannot be access the first time. I told the staff that all these not acceptable and she changed it. Finally I got the access to warn you guys.

I will write a more detail review on this terrible place when I return to Singapore.

My Husband and I have just returned from a 6 night stay at the Aquamarine Resort.

Our first impression of the Resort was that it was very outdated but clean nevertheless. Check in went smoothly and we had no issues.

When we got to our room again first impression was that it was dated but clean. The beds are so uncomfortable and so hard it was sleeping on the floor! The view from the delux ocean view room is great.

We ate at the restaurants only because the distance to Patong is about 10-15 minutes by taxi or tuk-tuk (about AU$12). The food was ok nothing fantastic and as expected with any Resort expensive. The staff at the restaurants were friendly however the bar and pool staff were very unhelpful, slow and rude. I would suggest saving time and money by going to the 7/11 down the road and buying beers there, much quicker and cheaper (we did this and ended up getting 24 beers for a little under AU$20 .

Like most people have mentioned previously, the Resort is located on quite a steep hill so if you have any difficulties with fitness or injury do not even consider this Resort.

The Resort does offer shuttle bus into Patong 3 times a day but you have to find your own way back (we paid about 400bht one way which seemed to be the going rate). But you do have to book 1 day ahead to be guaranteed a seat.

All in all the Resort is cheap, clean and has great views BUT some of the staff are rude, it is outdated and the beds are rock hard. Like anything though you really do get what you pay for though but we won't be returning.

My wife and I travelled here for a few days during our honeymoon trip. This was our first time in Phuket but not our first time in this type of resort environment. I did EXTENSIVE research on hotels in the Phuket area and I booked this resort because it looked like a place we'd enjoy. We are not fancy people but do enjoy luxury at a good price when it can be had. This place delivered. I do not have any negative things to say. Everyone does their job correctly and are very friendly. The rooms are very clean and zen. If you're looking for a couple's retreat, this place is nice and romantic. The property is managed well and everything seems perfect! I'd definitely come back a second time. If you've been looking @ 10 other properties and cannot decide which one, take my word and try this one because they've got their A-game on. Enjoy your travels :)

A few things to mention: trip from Airport should be done by Taxi-Meter. Their price is DECENT. don't bargain. But on the way back to the airport, you have to pay the price of the hotel/local taxis because Taxi-Meters don't work in the town of Kamala. Also the hotel has free shuttle buses to Kamala beach (3 minute drive) and also to Patong Beach (15-20 minutes).

From the first moment we arrived we were welcomed with smiles. The staff are all super friendly and helpful. The hotel is well equipped with restaurant x2, bars and 3 pools. Happy hour is always popular, the cocktails look both great and taste devine. The rooms too are well equipped, though the beds weren't the comfiest we've slept on. The hotel offers free shuttles to Kamala Beach and Patong, talk about an added bonus. The in-house spa offers fantastic treatments. My husband and I were on our honeymoon and took some time to enjoy a 90 min Thai massage - what an experience! The restaurant buffet breakfast is wonderful, so many selections. Be careful though if having the hotel do your laundry - we were stung around $65 Australian dollars for no more than a kilo of washing! We then found a side stall vendor who offerred the same service for a mere $3 per kg! All in all a fabulous experience, we will be returning with our kids in tow next year :-)

The four of us arrived there about midday and we had to wait around for and hour and a half before we could go to our rooms as the staff seemed confused which we found a bit odd because we paid from the previous night so there should have been no-one in our rooms they picked us up in a golf buggy took us to our rooms which was up a very large hill they had a service where we were supposed be able to call for the buggy when we needed it but it was always broken down and the other one was always in use staff werent as friendly as other places we have been to the rooms did have million dollar veiws but we can recommend the food there

Room Tip: try for a room at start of hill
