We stayed at Taro for 6 nights. The rooms are lovely very spacious and well laid out. Really great staff who are happy to assist with all needs. They classify themselves as self catering but this is very far from the truth. Two hot plates of which only one worked at a very low heat cannot be classified as self catering. There is in microwave, toaster or oven with which to even prepare the most basic meals. They are far out of town in a very run down area( chickens running around overgrown open land) and this really is quite concerning upon arrival.
If one is looking for a great place to come back to at the end of a day to sleep then this is it, if you require more then not ideal.

I joined a friend staying at Taro Hotel and we moved up to the penthouse (2 bedrooms) for 3 weeks. Wow! The best view, comfy beds, flat screen TV's (3), full kitchen, dining area, private balcony, lounge area and a pool downstairs with a waterfall. It's a short walk to Kamala beach and a nice 25 minute hike to private Hua beach. There was a weekly outdoor "market" about 8 minutes away where we bought fresh seafood and veggies, so cooking at home was a deal. I highly recommend the Taro penthouse for a couple of friends or two couples wanting to enjoy a 'home' feeling with all the usual hotel amenities.

Room Tip: The penthouse is huge and the two bedrooms are very private.

So, I did a LOT of research before I booked any hotel before my arrival in Phuket and finally decided on Taro for many reasons. I was still a little nervous about my choice until I arrived. Airport transfer waiting, rooms immaculately clean with maid service 2-3 times a week, friendly and accommodating staff, and only a five minute walk to the beach! Pool was great as well. If you are hesitating about booking this place, DON'T! I ended up staying for almost 3 months :).

Taro hotel offers beautiful rooms that are modern and spotless. The pool was great as it was very clean and no other guests were using it, however I think that if the hotel was busy and other people were in it then it would feel too small. When we first arrived at the hotel we felt as though we were in the middle of no where and it took us a little while to find the main street at the beach but when you know where you are going it doesn't feel too far.

1. Location
About 15-20min walk to the beach but we found it manageable. My wife was 4mths pregnant and we found it good exercise and thought the 'studio' apartment at the price was worth it. In fact, the location is in a traditional Muslim village so you get a glimpse of real Thai people's lifestyle. Also, there are a few big expensive resorts further up the hill so Taro is better located.

2. Cost
We thought the cost was great compared the big resorts. The service was good and the owner helped organise a car from and to the airport. We made the booking via a phone and found they gave good prices for longer stays.

3. Rooms
We stayed in the 'studio' which had a kitchen, private balcony and large spacious area. We were impressed with the size. The rooms are newly constructed and use modern furnishings. Free wifi was great because Phuket/Thailand seems to charge for this everywhere you go.

4. Eating
We often ate breakfast in (fresh fruit daily, fried eggs, toast, fake bacon). There are a few touristy restaurants but they are often expensive. I'd encourage eating at local looking place at Thai prices. There is a awesome chicken noodle/rice place on the main road opened most nights for only 50 B. There is a stir fried place on the side of a shop on the way to the main road for only 50 B and free water (free water is rare to find). Remember, Phuket is a tourist trap so is more expensive than the rest of Thailand.

Great place at a perfect location between Patong and Surin and in the middle of Kamala, if you just take a motorbike or some other transport you are good to go, walking to the beach is around 10 minutes.
Rooms are nice, but we took the studio, we stayed one night in the little bungalow rooms but they are nice for people who want to have a lower budget room and dont mind not having the possibility to sit on a terrace in the night.
So if you can spend the 50 euro s a night for a studio, you wont regret it.
By the way, nice owner who is very helpfull!
