“Customer Service”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2012

Heading to Absolute Nakalay Beach Resort in this coming week. Whole family excited, a relax place to go and meet up with friends staying in same resort; away from the busy town.
Could not believe the customer service from the company. Send them an email, enquire about the room available etc. Great 2nd day we got a reply "sincerely sorry to inform you that the resort is fully booked during the period. We look forward to welcoming you in the future". Disappointed!
HOWEVER, guess what, when we try out luck, we able to book in directly on-line and got our room not from any other promotion website, but the website of Absolute Nakalay Beach Resort itself! Could not believe why we can booked on-line but the staff reply no room available? Apprehensive about booking the resort, as first before we reach the customer service has already dissapointed us, so what when we there?
Could not change as friends booked into that resort too, and they able to because they are the member of that resort.
So is this resort mainly for members? if so probably will be best just HIGHLIGHT on the web instead disappointment received.
Company management need to sort this out, so they can provide better service too in future towards guest staying there and looking forward going back there again!

Having not stayed at this Resort before I did not know what to expect. We booked the Penthouse Apartment, WOW is all I can say, luxury rooms, luxury views and with our very own private pool, sun deck and spa on the roof of our Penthouse Apartment. The views were what dreams are made of, looking east across the water to Patong Beach and its starry lights at night and West towards the ocean and mountains watching the Sunset each day. The staff were fantastic, went out of their way to ensure we knew we were here for a holiday. Although not in the heart of Patong's action, the hotel mini bus transfer service only took 10 mins to get us there and it was so quiet at night, the sound of the ocean was so relaxing. You have to try this resort, at least once in your life.

Room Tip: Ask for an ocean facing room, they have many types to choose from, studios, 1 beds, etc, but ask for...

We exchanged our Absolute Koh Samui weeks to stay here and were given what must be premier apartment. Fantastic sea views, roof top deck with extra 3 rd bedroom, jacuzzi plus private small pool. Excellent facilities in apartment, full kitchen, dining area lounge , wrap around balcony. Perfect place to relax. Good gym downstairs and very efficient shuttle service to Patong.

Absolute Nakalay Beach resort is not exactly near the beach, so do not be misled. I would categorize it as a hotel with sea views instead.

Location (3/10): The hotel is located further up north of Phuket town. It is not near to Patong beach nor any of the local attractions in town and is a good 10-15 mins drive to the main stretch of shopping and dining areas. The traffic is quite horrendous as there are many vehicles along the Patong Beach so patience is required when commuting. If you stay here, plan to leave up to 30 mins earlier.

Surroundings (3/10): Located at the quiet stretch of Phuket, it offers a peaceful stay for those who wish to get away from the party crowds or loud music. The disadvantage is there really isn't anything available within walking distance. No restaurants or mini bars or 7-11 so you would have to drive out or call a transport to take you out.

Rooms (8/10): Nice, clean and spacious with modern decors and good supply of amenities. It also has a kitchen and dining area so it reminds me of a serviced apartment. Room rates were exclusive of breakfast.

Hotel facilities (6/10): There is a small pool where you can soak in or do a few quick laps. Rain showers are available by the pool as well.
Don't recall seeing any dining options here.
The hotel has a covered carpark that can accommodate maybe 5 cars? Given the number of rooms, if most guests rented cars, I reckon parking would be an issue.

Service (6/10): Hotel staff was courteous and generally helpful in explaining to us all we needed to know.

Overall, it was a nice peaceful stay. Hotel was kept really neat and clean and had nothing to pick on. The only pain was the location which resulted in additional traveling time. If you did not buy the timeshare packages then I would strongly suggest you consider other resorts which would provide similar value in a more centralized location.

Room Tip: Choose higher levels to get sea view.

Dear Mirakel

thank you for your review, we take all reviews seriously and all feedback is appreciated.

I am especially pleased on your comments about my staff and the cleanliness standards that we try to set and maintain.

I agree that there is very little to do in the immediate area but many of our guests prefer that to the hustle and bustle of more main town locations.

Thank you once again for staying with us. We hope to see you again.

We are Absolute club members that are very UNHAPPY with Absolute, as it is NOT what it is all cracked up to be. The crap that you are spun about accommodation deals for members everywhere when the slick salesman does their spiel is far from reality. We tested the promises for accommodation in Australia and overseas and gave a wide range of dates. There was very little available if any and they don't own the properties they make out to own, so you are at the mercy of partnership deals that they have with various properties around the world. The only Accommodation that we have been able to get on a regular basis is in Thailand but by the time you allow for the maintenance fee and the original cost to purchase membership, the savings just doesn't stack up. Absolute Nakalay Beach Resort is NOT a RESORT, you have NO access to the beach. The pool is JUST a pool. The restaurant is only a room off the car park with a few tables and NOTHING else, NO ambiance and NOT very happy wait staff. The lift (if it ever works) only worked ONCE in the 17days we were there, Im told that it ís OUT OF ORDER more offen than not, thank goodness we were only one the 1st floor. The shuttle to Kamala beach is ONLY once a day and at 9am (not good when you are on holidays) the return is at 3.45pm if you want to come back early you have to get a taxi'.There were workman replacing balcony railings and the noise and dust was not welcome. Maintence is OK but why not communicate that it is going to happen, provide extra bus scheduling to allow people to get away from the place. You need to avoid the front area rooms facing the main road because the noise can be unbearable.
Make sure that you ask for a mattress topper as the mattresses are really hard.

There are other places that are genuine resorts that are about the same or cheaper that are genuine resort quality.

Dear alan777_12

thank you for your frank review. Whilst I am disappointed that your stay was not good I do appreciate your feedback.

I agree that the restaurant area is soul-less and will am doing something about it.

the issue with the lift was a major that occurred despite regular maintenance. The parts to repair this major failure were not available on Phuket and had to be sourced from abroad.

I regret the inconvenience that this caused to our guests and we have put in extra measures to prevent it happening again.

thank you for your feedback.

I know there are a lot of negative reviews of this hotel here on trip advisor but my friends, family and I had a wonderful stay. I will say now that we are Absolute Club members, so without a doubt i was concerned with the reviews of a lot of previous guests.
We were aware that there was no easy beach access from the hotel and this didn't concern us at all, although they should just rename themselves Nakalay Bay Resort to stop the confusion and frustration for their guests.
We were met at the airport at 9pm and it was a 40 minute drive so we were very grateful for this. The van was clean and comfortable and this is one of the same vans they use to shuttle their guests to Patong and Kamala Beaches each day.
When we arrived late that night we were taken to our room which was one of the 2 bedroom penthouses. This was a nice surprise as this was an unexpected upgrade, I assume because we are club members. The apartment was fantastic. With everything very clean and modern looking. Samsung tv's and dvd's in each bedroom and the living room. A well equipped kitchen, and a well stocked mini bar which has reasonable prices. To be fair you can go out and stock up with as much cold drinks and beer as you want as there is a large fridge. The bathrooms were very spacious, modern and clean.
Up a spiral staircase in the penthouses, each have a jacuzzi and also a small plunge pool, 4 lounge chairs and even a toilet and shower so you don't need to go back downstairs.
Only issue we had was that the lift was out of order when we arrived and they still hadn't managed to fix it by the end of the week when we left. To be fair they had just had some major wet weather and flooding in the area, and this was the reason the lift was broken. it didn't bother us too much, but i could imagine it could be quite annoying to any older guests.

We had breakfast downstairs 3 times which was decent with a choice of cereals, type of bread, fruit plate, and choice of cooked eggs which came always came with crispy bacon. We had lunch a couple of times and I enjoyed the food both times, pricing is very reasonable too. Room Service was limited to a small list of items available on the full menu, but to be fair it was all you really need for room service. One thing they could do is make the effort to decorate the breakfast room a bit, rather than letting it seem like the corridor to the swimming pool, hopefully the manager will take note to this comment.
The hotel have a nice gym with everything you could need for a decent workout. Most of the machines and weights looked brand new. The pool area is quite small but never seemed to be packed any time I was down there.
As I mentioned before the hotel provide a shuttle service to Kamala beach (which is a wonderful looking beach) which goes there and back once a day (they should go there at least twice). and a regular service to Patong, which is very built up with lots of shops and bars. Generally we would get a taxi back from Patong in the evenings, this should cost you 300bht (£6), as the shuttle ends about 10pm.
All in all Nakalay is a nice resort and i would happily go back there again in the future. Just remember there is no beach and you should be fine!

Room Tip: A room with a view of the bay are best.

Dear atmontejo

thank you for taking the time to submit your review to Trip Advisor

I am very pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and that your penthouse unit was to your liking.

The shuttle service is constantly reviewed as regards to timings and seasonal demand and we do try to accommodate additional requests.
The breakfast are is I agree a bit sole-less...I will see what I can do to remedy this.

the beach access is something that we are well aware of and constantly attempting to remedy this matter. The issue is complicated but hopefully a new proposal may end this situation.

We hope to see you again in the not too distant future.

We bought a 7 night coupon from a coupon website in Australia for $499.

Coupon said we had a studio room for 2, return transfers and 2x 1 hour massages. I sent email to hotel (after a long search to find hotel contact details) to upgrade room. No reply, kept sending emails, eventually got response saying please complete attached booking form. Wrote back attaching confirmation email of booking when coupon purchased.

Next email from hotel stated that we did not fit the requirements of the the hotel as we were not married or not lived together for more than 2 years, not that they even asked us these questioncust

We start dealing with a lady from Absolute in Sydney, Australia, who advised coupon would be honored but that we were required to attend a 90 min seminar regarding timeshare or we would have to pay full rack rate for room and that we were sold coupon by a rogue employee of Absolute who was now in jail for fraud and they had received no money for booking. Like, that is our problem...how????

Anyway, we cannot find driver on upon arrival at airport. Friendly lady calls Nakalay who advises transfer from hotel to airport only arranged & to find our own way to hotel.

Upon arrival at Nakalay, check in clumsy & unprofessional. Room nice, pool ok, but not great, beach location shocking! Breakfast next morning twice as bad.

Send email to Absolute representative in Sydney advising transfer from airport not arranged. Reply stating booking and transfers done as a favor as no money received from rogue representative from company. Any refund for airport to hotel transfer to be taken up with coupon company.

Next day spent in Patong to find other hotel. Checked into Impiana Beach Resort which is absolutely gorgeous.

Will never look at another Absolute resort again in my life.
