“10 out of 10”
Reviewed November 5, 2010

we arrived late at night and check in was simple and friendly
the room was great clean and spacious with the family suite having 2 rooms the 2nd room having its own tv.( not sure about the review that claimed otherwise).
the room also had a facilties for coffee and a microwave along with basic crckery for those that like to prepare simple snacks etc.
Rooms were serviced daily and were kept immaculate for us even with all our shopping beach sand and wet towels daily so thanks again.
we had previously stayed at sunwing BangTao and this resort is almost identical.I wouldnt hesitate to stay at either but Kamala is probably the better location being more central to the island.
The restaurants were clean and the staff friendly especially SAN.
The management of the resort is friendly and first class stopping to say hello and said he remembered us from out stay at Bang Tao which was a nice touch
The pools were cleaned at well maintained, during our stay 2 pools were closed on a rotating basis for maintanance but that was no inconvenience as there were 5 others to use along with the pool bar and kids pool.
prices at the resort are very reasonable and not overpriced, but to save a little bit there is a 7/11 nearby as you head to the beach turn left and walk back over the foot bridge into Kamala town and it is about a 300 meter walk. Good for stocking up on snacks for day trips.
The kids club has a variety of activities daily from colouring and painting vidoes etc.
the girls played with the kids and made them feel welcome all the time.
At night there was differnt entertainment such as bands or a magic show along with movies shown projected onto the back wall wher the kids couold sit and watch. my 3 year old was hard to feed as all she wanted to do was go and play with the other children.
Massages at the resort are fantastic and same price a those on the beach at 300 baht per hour. We had one most days.
The kids love the resorts characters lollo the giraffe Bernie the bear and Woody the elephant and would chase them around the restaurant every breakfast.

i honestly cannot fault anything with our trip to sunwing Kamala clean well maintained spacious good food and good location away from the madness.i will admit that the restaurants and kids club look like an IKea store but it is bright and colourful the rooms are furnished in a lot of teak and woodgrian giving it a very much thai feel with all rooms having a view of a pool.

Outside the resort on friday nights are Kamala markets that have good variety and good prices along with the phuket night markets on saturday i wouldnt shop in Patong for clothes as you will pay double.
DVD's i would get from the guys at hello kittyy store or outside Real Tattoo at Patong Plaza.both good quality and 60 baht.

This was my fifth trip to Phuket. I took my partner and my 11 year old grand-daughter and 9 year old grand-son. Sunwing Kamala is amazing. The rooms were superbly appointed with a separate sleeping area for the children with their own TV. Beautifully set up with microwave and crockery etc for eating on our private balcony which overlooked the eight swimming pools. The resort is right on the beach. The entire resort was spotless and the service was outstanding. Definitely recommended for young parents with babies and small children because the resort provides EVERYTHING - strollers, cots, enclosed garden area to the family suites. Wow. Only suggestion would be to have a separate area in the dining room for those with older children and keep the families with under 3 year olds away - we did have a whingy kid during our stay and they always seemed to be near us. All in all 11 out of 10

Congratulations Sunwing!!! what a great family resort - you have certainly thought of everything. We are a family of four and chose to stay in a two bedroom family suite. The concept is great, the kids have a seperate bedroom (with TV) and bathroom (not that we used it), which meant that our night didnt need to end when the children went to bed, and that we could watch movies even when they slept in the afternoon. Friends we were travelling with stayed in a Happy Baby Studio - i would also highly recomend this for anyone travelling with one small child, but would be a tight sqeeze if you had two children. the rooms do not have DVD players so it is advisable that you take your own with conections for the TV, which is a plasma with 100 channels and only 4 are in English!!!

Our 4yo loved the kids club, unfortunatley there were not enough children for all the activities to run as we went in low season and the place was virtually deserted, but nonetheless he loved watching the movies playing with the toys, drawing, painting ceramics and painting his own T-shirt - the ladies who run this are absolutely lovely and do everything to make sure your child is having fun. All the children especially love the twice daily visits from either of the the sunwing mascots Lollo, Bernie and Woody, who ensure that each child gets a hug - even if they are soaking wet from the pool.

The Massage is an absolute must - it is on the path leading to the beach (still within the resort) the prices are the same as you would find anywhere along the beach.

The buffet breakfast at the resort is pretty poor when compared to other phuket resorts but the staff were very friendly and loved playing with the children while we had a coffee in peace. Dinner at the same restaurant was OK but you couldnt eat there every night as it became repetitive, even though it would have been easier with the kids because the staff were so great with entertaining children and following them around so they would come to no harm. A short walk along the beach to the right there are were two restaurants open - SMILE and CHOKODEE - both served fresh seafood and authentic thai dishes (as well as western) and VERY affordable prices. SMILE also conduct their own cooking clases at lunchtime and the only cost is for the food that is prepared and NOT for the hour long demonstration. Along the beach, to the left there are also a few cafes that are open for lunch, but we didnt try any of these.

Also a short walk (to the lef)t on the beach and over the bridge (5mins) you come to the main strip of Kamala town where you will find about twenty tailor shops, souvenier, massage and more restaurants, everything that you would find at Patong but not all the variety. The market that they hold outside the resort on Friday nights (not saturday or Wednesday) is absolutley fantastic - you can try local delicacies and mingle amonst the locals - and watch a snake show for free. they sell everything here- everything you would find in Patong and they are not as persistent and rude as some of the stall holders in Patong. But you will need to shop and bargain fast - as the market only operates from 5 - 7.30 depending on the weather. we were also told of another markt at Kamala - But dont even bother - it really is for the locals.

Also, on the beach just outside the resort you will find a lady who does your laundry (wash and dry only) for 50B - she does an excellent job ready for pick up the following afternoon (i only had small amount of washing when i got home). you will also find vendors selling ice cream, corn on the cob, clothes, tablecloths - worth a look.

The beach, though at low season is very rough and great for those who love to surf or body board - but we knew that as it is made clear in all the tourism info you read, although we went in raining season we really didnt get much rain at all(1 out of 10 days) - not sure if it was just luck or not - but speaking to some of the locals and hotel staff it seems that there is more rain in September.

the mini market at the resort stocked most things, including toys for the pool, sunscreen, swim nappies, batteries, milk but a short walk to the 7-11 you would find everything else you need.

Outside the Hotel, down the driveway, wait taxi and tuk tuks to take you into Patong and anywhere else. they charge 350-400Baht for a ride into Patong but we mange to haggle them to 300 for the trip back as there a million tuk tuks waiting for business on the main road in Patong.

Overall, we loved our stay at the Sunwing - they have thought of everything when it comes to entertaing and caring for Young children - we would definitely recommend it to others - but be wary when you book in low season the resort is vitually empty.

Very nice hotel. We were there in 14dage and our daughter so we almost did not because she was too busy with everything that was happening around her. Subjects to be playing with kids is really talented. If you are a great inflatables, there is ample opportunity to get a dip in the hotel's many pools. Every Thursday there is a market right next to the hotel, so one could get their appetites controlled with a good deal. But otherwise it is only 5 mins walk to town. We will certainly recommend this hotel for families traveling with children.

May I say, Sunwing resort had the best room arrangements we have ever experienced!! We stayed in a Happy Baby Studio - a ground floor studio apartment, with a small fully fenced courtyard, 3 steps away from the swimming pool! It comes with high chair, children cutlery set, baby rocker, a pram, changing mat, a potty and a small plastic bath tub.
It was really good to be able to relax by the pool while our boy was taking his nap.

It is the most family friendly resort we've come across and we felt that our boy was the main guest of the hotel and we were the "extras".
All of the staff members are fantastic with kids, especially at meal times and Jennie and Rose from the the KidsClub are so lovely.
Kidsclub always have activities for the kids, and the room set up was great. It was very IKEA - Sunwing is Scandinavian chains. It rained all day on our second last day, and thank goodness for the Kidsclub or I wouldn't know what to do with a 3 year olds stuck in a hotel room all day.

I have to say, the beach was a let down. The sea was very rough and the actual beach was not that wide. We decided not to swim as the day before we arrived, it rained and on the way to beach we had to walk by the hotel sewage/drain. Common sense prevailed. To make up for it there are 7 swimming pools in total. Because it was low season, while we stayed at the hotel, each family could have their own swimming pool each!

The massage/nail girls by the beach are great! They gave fabulous massage and gave me the best manicure/pedicure ever! They even painted my nails with flowers - not just dotted flower pattern like they do in Bali.
They are reasonably priced too.

Breakfast buffet was poor though. It was okay for our son, as they have different types of kids cereals. But, the quality of the hot food was not great.
We found ourselves buying food from outside for lunch and dinner. On the main road (about 10 mins walk) you can find several food stalls. Pretty good and very cheap. We also did our laundry on the main road, cost us THB70/kilo.
There is also 7/11 which is very handy to get your drinking water and snacks. They sell really yummy bread, try one with sausage and tuna in them!!
If you happen to stay in the resort on a Saturday, the night market outside the hotel compound is a must! They sell clothes and food for locals. Really really cheap, you don't even have to bargain and prices are definitely cheaper than Patong's price.

The hotel is quite deserted. It is far from Patong and everywhere else. There are taxi service that you can rent from outside the hotel, but what we found is that we couldn't really haggle their price. Airport transfer was the same price as what the hotel offered THB600 one way for a big van.

The resort is directly opposite Phuket Phantasea. We actually decided not to go as it was really expensive and the show starts really late - not suitable to go with a toddler whose bedtime is before the start of the show. I believe it cost THB1500 per person including dinner.

One problem we experienced was when we did the check in. There were confusion with how much they were going to charge us as we booked 2 rooms. When my parents checked out the day before we did, they were overcharged. However, the hotel was quite efficient in refunding all the credit balance back to our card.

Overall, out stay was great because of the swimming pool and the KidsClub. I wish there were more guests when we stayed as it would have been more fun and I believe that's when the hotel throw night shows.

I'll definitely recommend the hotel for families and would probably go back, but will go in peak season next time.

The Sunwing definitely has the wow factor when you get there, the size, the pools. We booked a 2 bedroom "Family Suite" having young kids and was surprised to see the kids bedroom had no TV. There was a TV antenna point and a power outlet on the wall opposite the bed. I asked if it was possible to have a TV in the room as the kids like to watch their cartoons when they are not in the pool. I was told they checked the website I booked thru and there was no mention of TV in the 2nd bedroom so they cannot do it!!!!
I had a friend stayiong at the Bang Tao Sunwing in a Family suite 2 b/r and they had a TV in both rooms!! I booked thru their own website and whilst there I checked the website and there is no mention of 2nd TV's at all in any room type. There was only a handful of people at this resort as it is low season, how hard is it to put another TV in to keep customers happy????
The other thing was that the pools were absolutley filthy. We decided to try all the pools on our first day and were surprised at how murky the water was. We then went into the pool that has the pool bar in it and that had slime on the floor!!! Gross! We went to the pool at the front which belonged to the Kamala Beach Resort its sister hotel everyday from then on. Towards the end of our week there the pools had improved BUT that is not good enough when you are going somewhere to enjoy the pools as well as the beach.

I stayed at this hotel over x-mas with my 2 sons, young teenagers. the hotel was brand new then so everythingn was not ready, but that did not bother us much.
our room was nice with lots of space. we had a room with direct access to the pool. Very nice and convenient. The funny thing is that different people have different ways of concidxering whats "private" and not. I dont mind kids running at my feet but when grownups walk across the private out door space you get a bit surprized. At times you had them almost sitting on "your sunbeds". But beside from that the room was excellent and very convenient. The rooms with pool access are facing north so there is no sun from noon there, both good and bad.
one good thing is thats it not allowed to book sunchairs before 10 in mornings. they take away your stuff if you try to do that.
we had booked an all inclusive but the food was not that good really. the buffee was very much the same every day. The a la carte for lunch was excellent.
the dining room was very noisy.

this is a great hotel but its made for (scandinavian) families with young children, everything is adapted to fit their needs. A very good concept so i would recommend the hotel for families or people who really likes children.
