Very nice hotel. We were there in 14dage and our daughter so we almost did not because she was too busy with everything that was happening around her. Subjects to be playing with kids is really talented. If you are a great inflatables, there is ample opportunity to get a dip in the hotel's many pools. Every Thursday there is a market right next to the hotel, so one could get their appetites controlled with a good deal. But otherwise it is only 5 mins walk to town. We will certainly recommend this hotel for families traveling with children.

May I say, Sunwing resort had the best room arrangements we have ever experienced!! We stayed in a Happy Baby Studio - a ground floor studio apartment, with a small fully fenced courtyard, 3 steps away from the swimming pool! It comes with high chair, children cutlery set, baby rocker, a pram, changing mat, a potty and a small plastic bath tub.
It was really good to be able to relax by the pool while our boy was taking his nap.

It is the most family friendly resort we've come across and we felt that our boy was the main guest of the hotel and we were the "extras".
All of the staff members are fantastic with kids, especially at meal times and Jennie and Rose from the the KidsClub are so lovely.
Kidsclub always have activities for the kids, and the room set up was great. It was very IKEA - Sunwing is Scandinavian chains. It rained all day on our second last day, and thank goodness for the Kidsclub or I wouldn't know what to do with a 3 year olds stuck in a hotel room all day.

I have to say, the beach was a let down. The sea was very rough and the actual beach was not that wide. We decided not to swim as the day before we arrived, it rained and on the way to beach we had to walk by the hotel sewage/drain. Common sense prevailed. To make up for it there are 7 swimming pools in total. Because it was low season, while we stayed at the hotel, each family could have their own swimming pool each!

The massage/nail girls by the beach are great! They gave fabulous massage and gave me the best manicure/pedicure ever! They even painted my nails with flowers - not just dotted flower pattern like they do in Bali.
They are reasonably priced too.

Breakfast buffet was poor though. It was okay for our son, as they have different types of kids cereals. But, the quality of the hot food was not great.
We found ourselves buying food from outside for lunch and dinner. On the main road (about 10 mins walk) you can find several food stalls. Pretty good and very cheap. We also did our laundry on the main road, cost us THB70/kilo.
There is also 7/11 which is very handy to get your drinking water and snacks. They sell really yummy bread, try one with sausage and tuna in them!!
If you happen to stay in the resort on a Saturday, the night market outside the hotel compound is a must! They sell clothes and food for locals. Really really cheap, you don't even have to bargain and prices are definitely cheaper than Patong's price.

The hotel is quite deserted. It is far from Patong and everywhere else. There are taxi service that you can rent from outside the hotel, but what we found is that we couldn't really haggle their price. Airport transfer was the same price as what the hotel offered THB600 one way for a big van.

The resort is directly opposite Phuket Phantasea. We actually decided not to go as it was really expensive and the show starts really late - not suitable to go with a toddler whose bedtime is before the start of the show. I believe it cost THB1500 per person including dinner.

One problem we experienced was when we did the check in. There were confusion with how much they were going to charge us as we booked 2 rooms. When my parents checked out the day before we did, they were overcharged. However, the hotel was quite efficient in refunding all the credit balance back to our card.

Overall, out stay was great because of the swimming pool and the KidsClub. I wish there were more guests when we stayed as it would have been more fun and I believe that's when the hotel throw night shows.

I'll definitely recommend the hotel for families and would probably go back, but will go in peak season next time.

The Sunwing definitely has the wow factor when you get there, the size, the pools. We booked a 2 bedroom "Family Suite" having young kids and was surprised to see the kids bedroom had no TV. There was a TV antenna point and a power outlet on the wall opposite the bed. I asked if it was possible to have a TV in the room as the kids like to watch their cartoons when they are not in the pool. I was told they checked the website I booked thru and there was no mention of TV in the 2nd bedroom so they cannot do it!!!!
I had a friend stayiong at the Bang Tao Sunwing in a Family suite 2 b/r and they had a TV in both rooms!! I booked thru their own website and whilst there I checked the website and there is no mention of 2nd TV's at all in any room type. There was only a handful of people at this resort as it is low season, how hard is it to put another TV in to keep customers happy????
The other thing was that the pools were absolutley filthy. We decided to try all the pools on our first day and were surprised at how murky the water was. We then went into the pool that has the pool bar in it and that had slime on the floor!!! Gross! We went to the pool at the front which belonged to the Kamala Beach Resort its sister hotel everyday from then on. Towards the end of our week there the pools had improved BUT that is not good enough when you are going somewhere to enjoy the pools as well as the beach.

I stayed at this hotel over x-mas with my 2 sons, young teenagers. the hotel was brand new then so everythingn was not ready, but that did not bother us much.
our room was nice with lots of space. we had a room with direct access to the pool. Very nice and convenient. The funny thing is that different people have different ways of concidxering whats "private" and not. I dont mind kids running at my feet but when grownups walk across the private out door space you get a bit surprized. At times you had them almost sitting on "your sunbeds". But beside from that the room was excellent and very convenient. The rooms with pool access are facing north so there is no sun from noon there, both good and bad.
one good thing is thats it not allowed to book sunchairs before 10 in mornings. they take away your stuff if you try to do that.
we had booked an all inclusive but the food was not that good really. the buffee was very much the same every day. The a la carte for lunch was excellent.
the dining room was very noisy.

this is a great hotel but its made for (scandinavian) families with young children, everything is adapted to fit their needs. A very good concept so i would recommend the hotel for families or people who really likes children.

Came at the beginning of low season, and, WOW, was it ever low season at this hotel. We only saw 4 other families at breakfast, and had our own pool the whole time, actually could have had 5 pools to ourselves if we wanted, not a soul was to be seen sunbathing on the lounge chairs or anything. Only one other family was swimming in the neighboring pool, otherwise all were empty. Was great to see that the staff was using low season to do some real spring cleaning, they were scrubbing the unused rooms like crazy. Hotel is very new and very clean, but does not feel Thai by any means. We probably wouldn't stay here in high season, because then we'd only meet neighbors from Norway and Denmark and Sweden, and the reason we go to Thailand is to escape Scandinavia.
One thing I thought was odd was that even though there was barely anyone there, they put us right next door, wall to wall with other guests. They even put someone right above us. They sure had enough vacancy to spread us out, even within the same building (there are at least 5 buildings I think. And most of them were being cleaned, so we were all in 2 or 3 buildings.) Very comfortable beds, for Thailand standards. We've stayed at 4 other resorts and the beds tend to be rock hard down there, but this bed had a pillowtop which helped. The pool access room was great, I'd get one again, and absolutely get one if going there in high season so you wouldn't have to fight for a pool lounge.
Customer service was great, talked directly to the manager to get a lower price (same as booking.com) and he arranged it for us. The front desk couldn't bend on their price, but the manager could. Another bonus of being there in low season. The front desk also organized our taxi back to the airport, and gave us an extremely fair price. Kids' club (MIniland) was also very empty, so the kids got very personal service.
Pools were great, great size and depth for two little boys who learned how to swim while we were there.
The hotel is actually not completely beachfront, as advertised. There are maybe 8 beachfront bungalows that are part of the hotel, and those ARE beachfront, but the rest of the hotel and all the pools are about 200 meters from the beach. If you want true beachfront for a Sunwing hotel, stay at the Sunwing on Bangtao....one foot in the sand, one foot in the pool. Our criteria for this trip was beachfront hotels, and all the other hotels we stayed at were right on the beach. THis was definitely not far, but not RIGHT on the beach. When at the pool, you'd never know how far it is to the beach. The advantage with Sunwing Kamala is that there is a LOT more town that you can walk to. I reccommend the Beer House restaurant (the one up the stairs on the main road). Excellent food, very nice people who work there. We ate there twice in 4 days.
The market right outside of the hotel on Fridays is great, better prices than in Patong. For example, the same Manchester Utd football outfit for boys was 250 baht at the Kamala market (first and last price told by the sellers, they don't bargain much at this market, their start prices are low as it is) whereas in Patong, their starting price was 750 baht. Tuk tuk to Patong was just 350 baht each way, so it was easy and cheap to get there.
Only negative I can think of is that the staff speak extremely poor english, really hard to understand, and to be understood, even at the restaurant. But they tried hard.
All in all: very new, very clean, nice-sized family rooms, good staff.

We stayed at Kamala beach resort with our young children in April.
That was the largest hotel we stayed in our 4 month sabbatical trip that just ended this April. It reminded us a lot of the large Mexican resorts. The hotel was beautiful, breakfast was plentiful and included in the rate, it had more than 10 pools and its location right on the beach. For many people that would be enough reason to stay there. But personally, we were expecting something a bit more authentic because we were in Thailand, not exactly a piece of Scandinavia on the Andaman coast. From the style the rooms to the restaurant (that looked like Ikea) the kids programs also offered in Scandinavian languages and the ABBA night with the 70s costumes, it was hard to believe we were in Phuket.
We learned that the hotel is geared towards Scandinavian tourists, who go to the entire area a lot. Probably more than 80% were from the Nordic countries, which would explain the efforts the hotel puts to accommodate their tastes.
It doesn't have free internet, which was odd in such a big hotel. We paid around 20 dollars for 4 hours of use, and lost a good part of the money when the network was down. Other smaller hotels in Thailand always provided that service for free.
This hotel is good if you have very young kids, due to the setup of the pools and if you just want to be near a beach and relax. If you are looking for something more authentic and original and would like to experience true Thai hospitality, than maybe you should look around some more.
