“Great family experience”
Reviewed November 1, 2012

We booked for 10 nights in a 2 room with two children aged 10 & 7. I would recommend this resort for any family travelling with children! We stayed in the low season of October & would definitely travel at this time again. The resort was quiet & relaxing for the whole family & until our last night, we were the only booking on the third floor of one of the wings! The staff were fantastic & I can't praise them highly enough. My husband & I found it the holiday we were looking forward to & the kids loved the pools, being close to the beach.

We stayed at Sunwing in July 2012 and it was a great experience. The rooms are excellent and clean. We stayed in the Pool Access room which had balconies that opened up right into one of the seven swimming pools available. The pools were big and there were two slides as well which was pretty cool.

We ordered room service twice from the restaurant and the delivery was quite prompt. As my son was 18 months at that time, we requested a baby chair that we saw in one of the other rooms but we were denied as they said it cannot be accommodated for our room. Which was a bit disappointing.

The food quality could definetly use some improvement, but was very reasonably priced so I guess it's fair. They were also willing to prepare special meals when requested which is nice.

Overall, we had a good trip at Sunwing and would definetly recommend it to anyone visiting with young children.

We stayed in a pool access room with 2 adults and 2 children aged 5 and 3 and found the room to be very comfortable for all of us. Having the pool straight off our outdoor balcony was absolutely fantastic, and even better we had our own sun loungers beside the pool off our balcony. The pools we numerous, I think there were 8 in all, so plenty of places for kids to explore and 2 water slides which were very well used by both of our kids. The pool bar served fantastic piña coladas and milk shakes and played some groovy tunes that had our kids dancing! The La Tasca restaurant served quality delicious food at such a reasonable price, kids eat free too, that we ate at the resort most of our holiday. Wonderful service and very attentive staff, and great with our kids also, special mention to Mod at breakfast, the nicest staff member at the resort! We did also try Smile restaurant on the beach to the south of the hotel which was very good also.

One highlight of our trip was to rent a luxury cabana on the beach for the day for $30 AUD which included towels and cold water and lots of beach toys for the kids. We also got a massage while we were there for an extra $10 each! The only disappointing thing about our experience at this resort was the kids club, it just is not functional. You can only leave your children for 1.5 hrs for 3 sessions a week and you cannot leave the hotel grounds. It also costs you for these sessions and the cost is too expensive for what is provided. Most of the time we were there the kids club was empty, as outside these designated sessions you have to stay with your children in the kids club, even though sometimes there were 3 or 4 staff there doing not much at all. Also the staff there did not seem interested in engaging with the children, we found the staff in the restaurant to be much more interested in our kids than the kids club staff! Once we realised that the kids club was not going to work for us we just didn't use it anymore so it didn't really impact our holiday so much, but it may if you were hoping to have some time out. Babysitting costs through the hotel are also very expensive so we didn't use this option either. The kids club has a long way to go to match up with the standard of other hotels we have stayed at previously. They have some activities sometimes in the evening aimed at the children, but some nights these were canceled without notice, and we found the shows were on too late (8pm) for a lot of the kids who had been swimming and in the sun all day to stay up for.

All in all, the resort was well maintained, clean and very appealing. The pools were very clean as were the rooms, and our room was kept clean to a high standard every day. The location of the resort is excellent, Kamala beach is quiet and perfect for families, the beach was safe for swimming even with our small children and very clean. It takes only 1 minute to walk to the beach from the hotels pool area. The Fino restaurant which is on the beachfront of the resort is also part of the hotel and we had some great meals there, with a perfect view of the ocean from our table. The resort is good value for money and overall I would recommend it to anyone looking for a reasonably priced family friendly resort, but I wouldn't recommend it for people who required a kids club as an essential part of their holiday.

Room Tip: Pool access rooms are great if you want easy access to the pool from your room. Happy baby studios...

If you are considering Sunwing Kamala for your next vacation destination, book it now! You won't regret it. We traveled to Phuket at the end of Sept 2012 to attend a friend's wedding (held at another resort). Our party consisted of me, my husband, our two kids- ages 4 & 2 and their two grandmas. We had two rooms. We arranged our own airport transportation and paid 800 baht for a comfortable ride in an air-conditioned van. When we arrived, the bellman immediately loaded our luggage onto a cart and followed us into the lobby. The front desk staff had all our paperwork ready and we paid for our entire hotel stay right at check-in. We paid approximately 3,000+ baht per night. A waiter from the restaurant quickly appeared with welcome drinks (a syrupy fruit punch). After we checked in, one of the front desk staff members actually walked us to our hotel room, located on the 4th floor. I've never been walked to my room before! She turned on the air conditioner for us and showed us around. Our luggage quickly appeared behind us. The rooms are very spacious and can easily sleep up to 6 adults. The furniture is modular and can easily be rearranged. My husband and I slept on the king sized bed and we set up two twin sized beds for each child. Extra blankets and bedding is left in each room. There are also plenty of extra towels and even thoughtful amenities such as two umbrellas! Each room has a safe, mini fridge, microwave, two bottles of drinking water (replaced daily), small kitchen sink, silverware and plates. Bathrooms are stocked with shampoo/body wash in a pump, shower cap, toothbrush, razor and sewing kit. On our 2nd day, room service left a basket of fruit (bananas and apples) in our room. How thoughtful! The kids enjoyed their healthy snack. Breakfast was provided each morning at the restaurant downstairs and there was a wide variety of Asian and Western options available, such as fried eggs, bacon, bread, fried noodles, miso soup, porridge, fruit, drinks and more. We had lunch and dinner at the restaurant and the food was pretty good and fairly priced. The small convenience store located by the lobby offered many helpful items like milk, baby food, swimming supplies and snacks. There are a number of pools with a few water slides. The water is well-maintained and clean. My husband enjoyed the swim-up pool bar. On the way to the beach there is a hut where you can get Thai massages, coconut oil massages and pedicures for only 300 baht. I made sure to get at least one a day! This is definitely one of the best vacations we have ever taken as a family.

We stayed in a pool access room and it was amazing. We had such a great time... Such a great place to stay with young kids and a great way to have holiday and meet with other families in the same situations. Lots of kids entertainment throughout the day which made it very relaxing for us as parents. The food was great and the facilities were always clean. Staff were very friendly and loved kids.

Excellent hotel for young families ( up to age 12 ) but we also had adults with no kids travelling in our group who were not put out due to the spaciousness of the hotel. Very accommodating staff, with excellent facilities and activities. La Tasca Restaurant simply good value, and we found little requirement to eat outside the hotel with exception of tours or trips into Patong. 10 - 12 min taxi to Patong. Beach was clean and enjoyable to swim in. Don't be put off by the weather forecasts of Phuket in Sep - Oct. Thunderstorms are forecast every date but were rare, and not a single day was ruined by rain. We have boys 3 & 5 who simply did not want to leave. If we are lucky enough to visit Phuket again would not hesitate in going back to this hotel.

Room Tip: The Family Room ( we used room 1224 ) is excellent if you like to have a second room, with a little...

We recently stayed for 4 nights at this resort with our 1 year old daughter. The complete experience right from the check in to check out was wonderful. The rooms are spacious and well equipped with not so plush bathrooms. The resort has 5-6 pools and has loads of options for kids to choose from like evening stage shows, cartoon movie screening etc. The staff at the hotel is very warm and very helpful and nothing is too much to ask for them. The hotel is at walking distance from Phuket Fantasea. The shops outside resort are just OK. Breakfast spread is good, specially the flavored yogurts. The food and service at their beach restaurant Le Fino is amazing, and kids eat for free at all the restaurants. The massage center at the resort have some really nice staff (took care of our daughter as we got our massages). The mini store near the reception area is also nice. Overall a wonderful resort for families with kids.
