“Nice room but we won’t stay again”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2013

We had 2 jacuzzi rooms at Cape Sienna for 2 nights each.

Rooms: Huge with many seating areas and tables. Balcony was large and had great views. Overall it was ok but if you looked into the details, it was not very clean. The jacuzzi had scum buildup around the jets. The phone was smelly and it was a pain making calls. They asked for our scent preferences for the room, and a diffuser was placed under the sink. This was a nice touch, until day 2 when they didn’t bother to light it up again.

Pool: The main pool was crowded and had little shade. The other pool opposite the road was much better, with shady areas and fewer people. However there was an ant infestation there. It is an outdoor area and insects are expected, but not lines and lines of ants crawling around and some dead ones inside the pool.

Location: If you do not get a tuk-tuk/taxi/car, the hotel is a long walk to the main road and back up a slope. There are some nice restaurants on the way though. Further down near the main road there are more restaurants, massage shops and a Big C supermarket nearby.

Staff: To get to our room, we had to walk past next to the reception. Throughout our stay, the staff there did not even look up from what they were doing or greet us once. The staff at the entrance downstairs was so much better, friendly and polite all the time. They also checked us in when we got there at 2, but then said the room was not ready yet. That was perfectly understandable, but we found it a bit odd that they would check us in then tell us to come back later.

Overall this hotel has magnificent views and nice rooms, but we never the warmth of their service or felt genuinely welcome.

Dear bly76,

thank you for your detailed feedback.
We can only apologize for not living up to your standards. I must admit a smelly phone is really strange.
I am surprised that you mentioned the poolside was crowded, as I have yet to see in the past few weeks more than 50-60% of the beds occupied.
Have definitely taken notice of your comments about our staff and we shall continue with our ongoing training sessions to make sure that we keep on top of all and get many more of those excellent reviews.

with Best Regards,

Great value 4-5 star resort. Love the Sienna Rocks infinity pool with views of the ocean and Kamala Bay. Set high on the cliff, every room has a sea view. This was a must for me. We ate at Plum Fine Dining restaurant and i would recommend for at least one evening during your stay. Everything about Plum is superlative.
Staff at Cape Sienna are very friendly and I enjoyed the adults only concept (no children) so the pools were relaxing.
Easy walk to Kamala town but can be exhausting in the heat. Don't stay here if you have mobility issues as there are many steps between the road, rooms, pools and lobby. You will need some fitness to not feel exhausted.
My only criticism is there is no conditioner in the bathrooms. Seems a small but vital thing to overlook as women with long hair don't like combined shampoo/conditioner. Luckily the 7-11 is a short walk away so I purchased some but this shouldn't happen at a 4-5 star resort.
We will return as this is a great place to stay.

if you want a hotel on phuket that your room will overlook the sea, the swimming pool is more of an infinity and your breakfast is from all over the world try here,
only 5 minutes walk from a great beach, with a variety of restaurants, and bars, all local, and all reasonably priced, and i do mean reasonable..
and its somewhere that is children free.

Room Tip: all rooms overlook the sea

Loved loved loved our stay at Cape Sienna, Kamala Beach. Resort is AMAZING. Choice of two pools or jacuzzi. Breakfast had so much variety. Staff attentive and friendly. Room was serviced daily and we never had a fault with the cleanliness or comfort of the rooms. Easy taxi ride to patong... The drivers just near the resort will try to charge more than the ones down the hill near the 7-11.

Overall we had a fantastic stay here and were very sad to leave.

Resort is severely let down by staff who seemed completely disinterested until the last day of our stay when the overseas owners had come to stay at the resort! Pool service was non existent throughout our stay. Their Thai food was excellent but dining/drinking options limited with unannounced renovations occurring in 2 of the 4 venues. We ended up dining at Silks Restaurant down the road on a few occasions which was superb. The view and pool is amazing but the hotel looks worn and in need of some attention. We had rain for a few days during our stay and consequently there was minor leaking in the hotel... but the rolled up towels left lying around the hotel wasn't a great look! Everything just seemed sloppy, as if no-one really cared.

Dear Westage,

thank you for your review.
I was quite surprised and puzzled by your review. We get so much great feedback about our staff and resort that it was indeed a bit frustrating to read that you felt our staff did not do a good job.
It is correct that 2 outlets had some little refurbishments going on, however the outside areas were all ready to serve and we had set up a temporary inside area for the Skybar as well.
The fact it was raining heavily during the time of your stay might not have helped.

However, we took well note of your comments and can only work harder to further improve.

We loved the fact that Cape Sienna was situated in a quite secluded location. However, for times we wanted to go out, transport was definitely an issue. I understand that this is widespread throughout Phuket, however I do not believe the individuals in the tourism industry is doing anything to help. People don’t seem to understand that tourist are willing to pay for what they get, but nobody likes getting ripped off. Sad that corruption will probably lead to the death of tourism in such a beautiful island. A previous post suggested that guests would benefit from more shuttle buses. I agree with this, even if guests were charged at lower fee than taxi’s. I completely understand that we must also give the locals an opportunity to make a living, but by introducing more means, it should drive competition and force competitors to lower prices, thus being more fair and probably actually increasing revenue for locals. Only saying this because there are so many comments about Transport. Something for Management to think about.

Dear RaeR,

thank you for your review.
Trust us we understand fully the situation of transportation in Phuket and presently there is indeed a push from all sectors (incl. ours) towards the government to deal more strongly with the situation. It is a Phuket wide situation, not a Cape Sienna issue and it has to be tackled from the government side.

The experience i gotten at this hotel was fantastic.

There were a few hiccups during the first night though. My bathroom was choked and water flowed all the way into the room.

Great view from my jacuzzi deluxe, Rm 6302. Unfortunately i didn't get the corner room as shown on the picture, which means that while soaking at the jacuzzi, i didn't actually get to have a sea view.

I requested for a nice jacuzzi room prior to the trip and was really looking forward to having a really nice room, but was slightly disappointed. (I later learnt that apparently the room that was originally allocated to me wasn't available, so they changed rooms for me when i arrived - which was sligihtly disappointing since i e-mailed them prior to the trip)

Hotel surprised me with a birthday cake, which was really a nice personal touch.

Breakfast was good, not a huge load of variety, but food was nice.

We didn't get the aromatherapy every night, but that wasn't much of a problem cause i bought my own oils and candles from Patong.

The view at Sienna Rocks were awesome. You must head down there to just sit around and laze.

Room Tip: Walk down the slope of the hotel and you will see a restaurant beside Rockfish. The chef there is r...
