My wife and I stayed at Menet for a week in April 2014. The accommodation is fairly basic, but there's everything you need, including a well equipped kitchen, quick internet access, TV, etc. The best thing about Menet though is its location by the river Tardoire about a mile outside Montbron (see the photos I've attached). We spent much time sitting in the garden or in the "bar" just reading or simply gazing at the river and watching the wildlife. There's also a lovely walking trail that starts near the house and runs along the river.
As I mentioned earlier, it's about a mile into Montbron from Menet and my wife and I walked back and forth a few times during our stay (hi-vis vests and a torch are highly recommended if you're going to tackle it at night, as we did a couple of times). From the point where the track to Menet meets the main road, you need to walk for about 500 meters along the main road to get to the point where the pavement and streetlights in Montbron begin. However, the road was pretty quiet when we were there and there are large grass verges on both sides of the road that you can step on to on the odd occasion when a car does come along.
It's also possible to walk to the Moulin de la Tardoire restaurant, which is about 1.3 miles away, again down a very deserted country lane. Lunch there is highly recommended.
The owners of Menet, Julie and Ron, made us feel very welcome and comfortable from the moment we arrived. Overall we had a lovely and very relaxing stay at Menet and would not hesitate to recommend it.
