Friendly service and cosy setup makes you feel just like home. The candlelit alfresco Sri Lankan dinner was an absolute gem.

We arrived at about 3:30pm and then took a short walk around, visiting the tea plantation around and tea factory.

:)

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 3 days & 2 nights. My greatest memory of staying here was the FOOD! Some of the best Sri Lankan curry during our 2.5 week holiday. After the first night of delicious food, I knew I needed to learn from the best. The head chef Sebastian was nice enough to let me into his kitchen to watch him cook a few curries and take notes. The hotel staff was also extremely friendly, giving us printed out hiking paths in the area, arranging a tour at a local tea factory and serving us tea upon request. It's a beautiful setting to sit back, read a book and enjoy the sunset. There's also a beautiful pool and garden to walk through. Thank you to the staff at Rangala house for a memorable stay!

We arrived at Rangala from Kandy. The house is set in a stunning location and is a beautifully restored planters property. The staff can not be faulted the food is superb and Anthony the owner is a very hospitable host. Do drag yourself away from the house which is hard to do, and do the walks around the plantations, they are superb. At sundown take time out to listen to nature, it blows you away.

We arrived late and were greeted by the owner and the manager, we were the only guests for the two nights we stayed and we were shown to our room which was on the back on the property with windows all around looking out over the incredible views.

The rooms are simple but have everything you need, i would definitely recommend one of the two rooms on the back off the terrace so you can enjoy the views.

The team there are so lovely, friendly and helpful and the owner Anthony popped in every day to see how we were doing. The chef Sebastian is fantastic and we were asked if we had any preferences, we requested vegetarian curries and egghoppers which we had heard about but not yet tried and Sebastian served up a delicious array of food for us. Breakfast is also good, and it's lovely to sit and enjoy the fresh fruit, juices and their own peanut butter whilst looking out over the pool and hill views.

Rangala was about relaxing for us but we did do the shorter of their recommended walks around the tea estate opposite the house which was a really lovely walk with easy, clear directions to follow.

A great place to stay, with lovely people and a lovely setting - we happily recommend it!

Room Tip: The two rooms on the back off the terrace have the views so i'd say these are the best, the one...

Charming warm and friendly jplace with an exquisite view surrounded by tea estates and far from the clamour of Kandy. The cook Sebastien made us the most exquisite Sri Lankan food and the service was delightful attentive but not intrusive . The library was well stocked.

This is my 4th or 5th visit and the first with two friends who spent their first three nights ever in Sri Lanka, here. A perfect place to unwind after a long journey. We slept and ate and swam and festered all excellently, all well ministered to by Anthony and Sam and Amila and Sebastian. Feeling a bit more active, we walked through tea and cardamom and visited the local temple. The house and the setting and the views from it are gorgeous. After 3 days here we were ready for some real tourism and set out refreshed and happy. Thanks to everyone concerned.

Room Tip: There are only four rooms here and the two facing outwards over the garden in the main house are pro...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Coming from Kandy , the journey (slightly more than one hour) takes you through Digana, Teldeniya and then left, through Udispattuwa and onto the Duckwari tea estate. At an altitude of just under 1000 metres above sea level, the situation is significantly higher up in the hill country than Kandy (500 metres) and the climate is noticeably cooler and fresher. Rangala House is situated on the edge of the Knuckles Forest Region - now classified as a world heritage site. This area is up-country from Kandy on the North Eastern side. The house faces almost due West on a steep jungly hillside. Spectacular sunsets are common. The view from the verandah is enormous - a 180º panorama from Hantana mountain to the South right round to the Duckwari tea estate and Knuckles Hills to the North and North East. Far down below in the valley, paddy fields give way to further hillsides and, on a clear day, you can even see Bible Rock many miles away. At night the lights of Kandy can be seen twinkling in the far distance. Behind the house, the tea estate rises steeply and is attractively dotted with shade trees and huge igneous boulders - common hill country features. The house is situated on the Teldeniya - Rangala mountain road, about 25 minutes up from Teldeniya. Cars are not often seen, traffic being mainly composed of three wheelers, country buses and estate tractors. The road is mostly in excellent condition up to Rangala House and beyond, but the section through to Corbett’s Gap is impassable to vehicles. ACCOMMODATION There is a large sitting room with double French windows, a stone fireplace and spacious dining area. The LED TV has many satellite channels as well as all the local stations and there is also a DVD player. For music lovers, there is a high quality sound system (classical and jazz CDs available) and a Roland electric piano. Broadband wifi is available in all room and is free of charge. Adjacent to the sitting room there is a western-style kitchen, fully equipped with all mod cons and finished in solid mahogany. Guests are welcome to come and talk to the resident chef - and perhaps pick up some tips on cooking curries Sri Lankan style! ... more   less
