This place is absolutely wonderful I cannot over estimate how fantastic the view and location are. Stunning. Our room had huge windows overlooking the tea plantations. It's not a brand new property but it is full of character and is comfortable and clean. The food really makes this place, it was delicious. We were really well looked after by all of the staff, they made us feel incredibly well looked after - cant thank them enough. They provided us with information on a couple of local walks and we asked about visiting a tea factory, the guy in charge called the owner and arranged for us to get a visit that day, was absolutely brilliant. We loved being in the hills and although the weather was pretty atrocious, it didn't even matter. Thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable. Would go back tomorrow.

My husband and I spent an amazing, 2 nights ( not long enough) tucked away at this paradise. Woken in the morning by the sun rising over the hills, a view to die for, and the addictive sound of the variety of wildlife talking to one another. The food and service was spot on, we had the best curry of our lives here!! Anthony the owner was on hand to give advice on walks around the local tea plantation and nothing was too much trouble.
Thank you so much for such a memorable first couple of nights in Sri Lanka.

I went to stay at Rangala House about three weeks ago and greatly enjoyed it. There are two enormous rooms with good bathrooms. The service was unobtrusive and helpful. The food was delicious. And the views were magnificent. Anthony is an intelligent amusing host for whom nothing is too much trouble. We visited Corbett's Gap from there and the Knuckles and the tea estates - it was a perfect base.

As you wind your way up the twisted and seemingly endless road up into the hills of Rangala, you've probably had enough of travelling, and you're beginning to wonder, even though you've read the reviews, 'is this place gonna be worth it?' The answer is an absolute yes.

Everything about it is perfect, the rooms are comfortable and have terrific views, the food is fabulous, the pool and gardens are so inviting. It's a very relaxing place to be, and your host Anthony makes it even more so. He is the driving force behind this place, and it really is like you are a friend staying at his home rather than a paying guest. The other staff all have good english, and their service is great - without being too overbearing.

I could go on but there's no need. Stay here. You won't regret it.

Room Tip: We preferred to be a little bit away from the communal terrace in the studio room

We had the immense pleasure of staying at Rangala House recently and now back in England, look back on our time there with huge pangs to return. Anthony has created a "home from home" which is peaceful, comfortable and totally restorative. A glorious house in a stunning location, away from the noise and congestion of Kandy, but close enough to visit all the town's sites. Sebastian created wonderful dishes, and the house cocktail of Arack, ginger beer and lime juice has become our Lanka souvenir! No praise can be high enough and we wish Anthony continued success, though hoping that he won't be too busy to accommodate us again on our next visit.

We stayed at numerous places during our 3 week trip including some rather high end hotels.... But Rangala was by far our favourite! We stayed for 5 nights but I could happily have stayed much longer.... Sitting on the terrace taking in the stunning view, eating the delicious food prepared by Sebastian and chatting with our fabulous host Anthony. The most relaxing place I have ever stayed... Total escapism. We immediately felt completely at home and relaxed. All of the staff were wonderful... this is a very special, small guest house and intimate place to stay. We had the new studio room which was perfect for us as it is very private, just to the side of the main house with it's own veranda.
If I could only return to one place in Sri Lanka... This would be it.

Room Tip: The studio room is very private and spacious.

I LOVE this place everything about Rangala House is Amazing....

The staff are out of this world...make you feel very welcome effortlessly in a relaxed professional way. This really is slip your shoes off, sit down, relax, enjoy the view time!

The chef prepares the most divine food and he is a lovely guy too. The Aubergine curry he prepared was probably one of the best things I have ever eaten!

The rooms are amazing mine to the left of the veranda had stunning 180 degree views. Lovely decor, quality fittings and very very clean.

The setting is to die for...eagles soaring in view, beautiful sun down and sun raise....tropical plants and stunning pool.

I really felt this was an unspoilt slice of Sri Lanka no other tourists and passing through little towns and villages en route. It's well worth the drive and I want to come back....right now!

The owner is just sooooo friendly and welcoming too.

I really loved the fact they treated my driver so well too I haven't seen a driver treated so well anywhere else :-)

The best place in Sri Lanka and only 50 mins from kandy....I would say come here if your short on time instead of Ella.....in fact I would say just come here anyway you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Ask for room to left of veranda with 180 degree views. Or the studio if you are a family it has fun...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Coming from Kandy , the journey (slightly more than one hour) takes you through Digana, Teldeniya and then left, through Udispattuwa and onto the Duckwari tea estate. At an altitude of just under 1000 metres above sea level, the situation is significantly higher up in the hill country than Kandy (500 metres) and the climate is noticeably cooler and fresher. Rangala House is situated on the edge of the Knuckles Forest Region - now classified as a world heritage site. This area is up-country from Kandy on the North Eastern side. The house faces almost due West on a steep jungly hillside. Spectacular sunsets are common. The view from the verandah is enormous - a 180º panorama from Hantana mountain to the South right round to the Duckwari tea estate and Knuckles Hills to the North and North East. Far down below in the valley, paddy fields give way to further hillsides and, on a clear day, you can even see Bible Rock many miles away. At night the lights of Kandy can be seen twinkling in the far distance. Behind the house, the tea estate rises steeply and is attractively dotted with shade trees and huge igneous boulders - common hill country features. The house is situated on the Teldeniya - Rangala mountain road, about 25 minutes up from Teldeniya. Cars are not often seen, traffic being mainly composed of three wheelers, country buses and estate tractors. The road is mostly in excellent condition up to Rangala House and beyond, but the section through to Corbett’s Gap is impassable to vehicles. ACCOMMODATION There is a large sitting room with double French windows, a stone fireplace and spacious dining area. The LED TV has many satellite channels as well as all the local stations and there is also a DVD player. For music lovers, there is a high quality sound system (classical and jazz CDs available) and a Roland electric piano. Broadband wifi is available in all room and is free of charge. Adjacent to the sitting room there is a western-style kitchen, fully equipped with all mod cons and finished in solid mahogany. Guests are welcome to come and talk to the resident chef - and perhaps pick up some tips on cooking curries Sri Lankan style! ... more   less
