“Absolutely wonderful!”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

I have just returned from a short stay with Chuck and Emma and can't wait to go back again. My sister and I were made to feel very welcome straightaway with tea and cakes served in a lovely book lined sitting room. If you are eating in you won't be disappointed, Emma served the most delicious 3 course dinner. Great not to have to go out once you have arrived and relaxed! Our bedroom was spacious and comfortable with amazing views across the valley. Nothing was too much trouble and great for my sister as she is gluten free and Emma went to a lot of trouble to ensure that she was able to eat everything on offer.

Only good things to say about this charming B&B - friendly welcome with tea/cordial and cakes to relax while taking in the tremendous views, warm interior with lots of fascinating pictures and decorative objects, a family atmosphere with charming owners who played their role just right, surprisingly our nervous dog took to funny Nutmeg immediately, met some really nice guests, perfectly quiet, comfortable beds - just great for all ages.

A little difficult to find if relying on Satnav but well worth the effort! Emma and Chuck were perfect hosts and made us feel welcome by giving us tea and scones on the terrace overlooking the valley when we arrived. A brilliant way to start a few days in Devon. The breakfasts were enormous with plenty of variety. The rooms were very comfortable and those at the front had outstanding views. Our boys made good use of the tennis court but thought it too cold for the swimming pool. (Can it ever be warm enough in an English summer?) Nutmeg made friends with us straightaway but thought our puppy too bouncy! A great place to stay for a few days in Devon and recommended without hesitation.

A lovely welcome from Chuck and Emma with homemade cake and coffee on the terrace and elderflower cordial for our teenagers. Our little dog was a little unfriendly, at first, to the sweet Nutmeg but soon got used to her. The views from the bedroom windows were breathtaking. The beds were so comfortable and the family room very spacious. The shower was lovely especially after a swim in the heated pool, which our 16 year old twins absolutely adored. The breakfast was lovely and so much to choose from, so filling we didn't need to eat much for the rest of the day. As well as Chuck and Emma being very helpful and friendly their son, Henry was also a very able substitute when his parents were away for our last day.

Right from the start Emma was welcoming & helpful and made sure that all was in place for us to have a relaxing couple of days in Devon. Emma and Colin (our hosts for the weekend) were both equally lovely - both rated 5*. Nutmeg is also 5* as the boys made a new friend. Goats too were friendly. The four of us enjoyed the pool and the most fabulous tennis court with the best views in the country. Tea and cake, fabulous breakfasts, comfy beds and plenty of books to read. We were made to feel at home from the minute we arrived and we were sorry to have to leave. We will certainly be back before too long. Many many thanks. The Castles

Location
At first it took a little finding - the sat-nav took a terribly narrow, steep and winding route which we abandoned in favour of a MAP! But once you know your way in and out its easy to reach nearby towns and villages etc. Lets face it in Devon everything is at the end of a country lane! you're only a 10 minute drive from the sea but not a seagull in earshot so you don't get that horrid early morning wake-up call.
Facilities
Chuck & Emma were very welcoming and lovely to our two small children. The family room was great - with 1 double and 2 single beds, (plus they lent us a travel cot) and en-suite bathroom. The guest sitting room with TV is a god-send for us parents - a weekend away without having to go to bed at the same time as the children. And I think Glebe House has more books to borrow than our local library.
Breakfast was brill - Emma was kind enough to accommodate our early risers. And the kids loved early morning walks to see the animals - cows on the front lawn, pigmy goats, a horse and of course Nutmeg the dog.

Room Tip: Don't be put off by the dog friendly status. Even though there were dogs staying while we were w...

Chuck, Emma and Nutmeg (the dog) could not have been more warm and welcoming for our two night stay recently. Our room was spacious and very comfortable with the most spectacular view over the valley. Our first night Emma cooked for us, which was really delicious and Chuck paired up a lovely white wine to go with our scrummy fish pie. The location is stunning, with commanding views over Southleigh and beyond. It was so easy to nip to Beer and Branscombe. We enjoyed some good walks nearby. We will certainly be back.
