This restaurant is at the same location as the Kloster Holzen Hotel, and adjacent to a cloister. Off the beaten path, but agreeing with another reviewer, this restaurant served some of the best food we had anywhere in Germany.

My husband and I recently travelled along the so-called "Romantic Road" in the south of Germany. We originally wanted to book a night in Donauwörth, but since all the hotels were completely booked, booking.com suggested to book a night in this Kloster instead. And since the price was okay and the images on the internet looked pretty, we decided to have a go.

Little did we expect to find this remarkable hotel. Situated in a former convent, amidst meadows and gardens, we found this amazing historical building, with beautifully designed rooms. The receptionist was very friendly and we were stunned by the beauty of our room. The bathroom design is stunning, with glass doors and the furniture is done in oak and is just beautiful.

Right next to the hotel, you will find the restaurant with terrace, where you can enjoy dinner and/or drinks of exceptional quality and to an affordable price.

Breakfast is served in the hotel. We were served by Maria, who was so kind as to offer us 'weisswürstl" as an extra and printed out suggestions for our visit to Augsburg. We have never been treated so kindly by anyone in a hotel, and we were really impressed with the service.

The only thing we regretted was not having booked more nights in this gem, but we made up for this by booking another two nights on our way back.

Remodeled abbey in the countryside. Beautiful hotel with ver modern rooms and the rate was ridiculously low. Great service, lovely views, deathly quiet . Restaurant was inexpensive and probably the best meal we had in Germany! The next day we continued on the Romantic road and visited some beautiful old cites on our way to Munich. If you are planning the Romantic rd trip this hotel is about halfway between Frankfurt and Munich. Beautiful ride in the countryside!

Room Tip: Booked this through booking.com very easy and you can cancel up to day of arrival. No money up front.

I have stayed at KH 4 times in the past 2 years and each time I come, they have added more rooms and services and I am always pleased. TV is German, with no English stations, but who needs to listen to bad news in English and it is always a treat to see the American shows done in German, especially "Hogans Heros" which is called "Papa Shultz". The lack of an exercise room is more than made up for by a close hiking trail and the area around the hotel. Rooms are spaceous. Ask if you need a room accessable by elevator or on the ground floor as not all rooms have easy access. Managers and staff are very accomodating and good communication is possible. I love the cappocinos in the morning and the dinners are excellend. Need a car as there is no nearby transportation. Augsburg is about 15 miles away. Very neat and clean decor.

Room Tip: Ask if you need a room that is accessable. Some of the rooms require a walk up the stairs.
