“Great food and vibes, bit pricey!”
Reviewed March 17, 2014

Food here is very good, and the portions are big too. To achieve this though the menu is small and expensive too. I'd recommend the 'pastalaya.' It's a slight tourist trap. But beer is cheap (p50) and it has a great view.

“A favourite place of my travels...”
Reviewed March 7, 2014

I was lucky enough to discover the paradisal Port Barton by pure accident and then this place which just appeals to my inner bohemiam!

I love their house, the young girl waitressing was lovely and even the scotsman and his phillipino wife running the place were reallylovely and good company as I was travelling alone, happened to be the only person there that night (the power went out in Port Barton which just made the atmosphere even more awesome!).

I see somebody complaining about the price of the beer in another review, however did not feel it overpriced, if it happens to be more expensive it can be justified by not only the great service but also the fact that it is absolutely mind numbingly ice fricken cold, as promised!
yum!

They also were more than happy to whip up a scrummy vegetarian meal on my behalf and I fet honoured to share there lovely balcony and watch the sun go down on such a beautiful evening.

If you do not enjoy this place then you truly are hard to please!

I walked in here by pure chance while wondering the beach and had read no reviews prior to this (although they have a stack of lonely planets to read there).

Thanks guys, you're awesome! :)

“Cool place, great coffee!”

Good coffee and a great independent place to hang out in Port Barton - really liked the independent spirit of the place, and the food is pretty good too!

“Give it a try, seems like too many terrible reviews are not deserved”
Reviewed February 10, 2014

I ate at 4 or 5 different places, and here was good. It was also the most expensive by some margin; the menu is also very limited. It's a tiny cafe facing the beach and sea - you have the option of two tables, a lounging area where you can sit back on cushions, or a table and chairs that you need a ladder to access (this was the best spot in my opinion, you are perched high in the air like a crows nest, an altogether different way of dining). The cafe is decorated with all sorts of missives, and poems and advice - it's a little self consciously 'right on', but not in a truly annoying way (although at times, not dear off - why disparage locals?) They have Lonely Planet guides going back many years - you can see the prices that you would have been charged at various hotels say five years ago or even going back in history twenty years ago - inflation for some places is running at many thousand percentage points! Back to the food - the signature dish, jambalaya, is nice and spicy, and the fish was Cajun too. Homemade bread was nice. Portions for my liking could have been quite a bit larger. However, as mentioned, in terms of taste, I didn't find much better.
