Spring Lake Resort Motel and Restaurant

We decided to stay at Spring Lake because of the positive reviews it received. Irene was a good hostess; accommodating, knowledgeable and friendly. We were able to save $8.00 on our trip to Algonquin Park (which is around 15 min. away from the hotel). The restaurant (which I kept hearing great reviews about) was conveniently located and reasonably priced – although you may have to wait around 20 - 30 min. to receive your meals as they have a very small wait and cooking staff. The food was pretty tasty although the amounts were quite small.

Despite the positives, there were certainly many things we were not impressed with and we were disappointed to find out first hand the things other reviewers neglected to mention.

First off, yes, there is a ‘lake’ you can canoe/paddle boat/kayak with. However, the ‘lake’ is merely a small pond and the canoe was leaking which we had the unfortunate task of finding out once we got to the middle of the pond. The canoe was half filled with water once we reached shore – quite a scary experience…

The room itself is quite dated. For the price you are paying, you should expect better. The carpet is thin and old, the appliances (heater/fan, fridge are older so it takes quite a while to start up). The bathroom was quite nice, but check to make sure all the plumbing works as the toilet made a lot of noise when it was being flushed. If the price of the room matched the quality of the room, I would have been much happier.

The greatest disappointment we discovered was that the walls are PAPER THIN. Every thump you will hear. My husband can sleep through World War III happening in the bedroom, but even he was bothered by the noise outside (you WILL hear people talking, walking outside - below, above, stairways – EVERYWHERE!). It’s especially annoying when you’re trying to relax and sleep-in, and people are waking you up at 7:00 in the morning.

Overall, not the greatest ‘resort’ experience, but probably not the worst…. yet.

Room Tip: To limit the amount of noise pollution you hear, do not book room 1 or 7 (they are the ones near the...

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We are always striving to provide the best customer service and the best experience for our guests, and we are sorry that you found your stay not so great with us, but, if you had brought your concerns to our during your stay with us, I am sure that we could had resolved most of them right there and then, like the canoe being broken. No one have brought this to our attention unitl this review, we will check the canoe today and repair it, if it needs to be repaired.
I would like to address some of comments mentioned in the review, as I find them unfair
1. Our lake is not a pond, it is a smaller, spring fed lake, the world LAKE is the name itself, Spring Lake.
2. As the owner and the cook, I find 20-30 minutes wait for the meal in the restaurant an acceptable time frame, we are not a fast food restaurant, our meals are being prepared fresh and on the spot for you, as we do not use frozen products, we are being contantly praised for the quality and quantity of the meals, our portions are bigger than the most restaurants.
3. We have own this resort only for the past three years, we renovated and upgraded most of the rooms, the remaining carpets and air/heating units on the upper floor will be changed after this summer season. All fridges, washrooms have been replaced or renovated, there is no problem with plumbing.
4. Our rooms prices are very competitive for Muskoka, if there were not, we would not have so many repeat and satisfied customers.

We have been going to this resort for a few years now and we have always had a great time. The owners are so friendly and helpful. The food is also great and we enjoy dining on the patio overlooking the lake.
This place is so peaceful and relaxing we are always sad to leave.
Thank you Irene, Jack and Nancy for your kindness. See you soon.

Ginette and Joel.

Just one thing I would like to mention, I wish there was a closet in the rooms or a rack to hang some clothes, which would be better for a longer stay.

Stayed there for two days this week to be close to our grandkids. Great location, great facilities and great service. We are back here again next week for two days. One minor irritation is the lack of lighting. Only one person can read in the living room as there is only one small light by the chesterfield. The other light is by the bed. The food in the restaurant is is excellent. One warning, don't eat at the Cookhouse down the road, Worst service we have ever experienced. An hour and forty minutes to get lunch.

Would highly recomend Spring Lake.

This was our first stay at Spring Lake and we were very impressed. The room was clean and comfortable and overlooked the small lake. We spent time on the private beach using the paddle boat. There were also canoes and kayaks for the guests use. The motel is 3 levels with a long balcony and each room had two chairs to sit on outside your room so you could look at the beautiful gardens and the lake. We ate in the restaurant frequently. It was tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The waitress was priceless, so friendly, as was the owner. The food was excellent. We heard so much about the perogies, so we had to try them and they were delicious. We were very pleased with the cleaning staff as they kept our room spotless. There was a fire ban in effect which was disappointing because I would have loved to have had a campfire in the evening on the beach. I will look forward to that next time we visit and I would not hesitate to visit again and we will for sure.

Room Tip: All the rooms overlook the lake which makes them perfect.

We stayed here for one night, basically due to website & positive reviews.....(We would generally have stayed at chain hotel in Huntsville but decided to try this out.....and we were not disappointed. Calm & peaceful spot right on small lake. Swimming, canoes, paddle boats, great atmosphere for reading or just enjoying the view!)
A slice of cottage life but even better since no cooking; There is a great restaurant right on site - We enjoyed a very tasty dinner & breakfast next morning out on the deck. Rooms arr not fancy but renovated, clean & very comfortable. Quiet even though close to the highway. Definitely recommend & hope to stay again.

What a gorgeous, peaceful location with a small beach on the lake. The garden setting is lovely. Beautiful walking paths, canoes for the lake, and quiet beach area. There are tall evergreens between the garden setting and lake for a perfect outdoor feeling and sense of privacy. The resort itself is three levels: the 1st level rooms open to the garden, the 2nd level rooms are at parking level and the third floor is accessible by stairs. The restaurant is adjacent to the office and faces the highway and back views on the garden. The staff and owners are delightful and helpful. The restaurant's food was great! Not gourmet but flavorful, fresh and really good. The room was good sized, wifi was reliable, and the bathroom was really nice. The only suggestion is that the resort work on a better sleep surface because, WOW, the mattresses were hard and a big lumpy. I had sore points on my hips ribs and shoulders. Lovely view to work out the kinks though so still think this is a great resort. Don't be put off by the dated exterior - this is a lovely, peaceful property next to the water and beautifully landscaped in the natural setting.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 3rd floor have the least traffic but stair access only. The 2nd floor has great views...

I would like to clarify that we have been owning this resort only for 3 years and we have done lots of renovations within this time, the most recent one, the matress in room in Main 3, the customer stayed in and posted the pictures from, was just replaced with a brand new one this past week.
