“keep driving!”

I did not like this place, and I would never go back. It was over priced, even for July.
When I got there the toilet was not working, so they had to get a plumber in, and then when I got up in the middle of the night, it would not flush because there was no water in the tank! The alarm clock was broken, and I could not set the time and alarm as the minute button would not work.
The place was just dumpy with old decor. The place was clean. The so called swim area in the back of the property looked to me to be just a stagnant pond, with lots of bugs. One of the worst places I have ever stayed in.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Riverside Motel in Dwight and found our experience to very dis-appointing. The grounds are beautiful with many wild flowers, benches or sitting areas and even a coy pond. The unit we were given was very old and in need of refurbishing, as soon as you opened the door you were hit by a musty odour. The floor creaked and was not level, the beds which are advertised as new, were very uncomfortable. The one bed even had a few critters, which fortunately were dead and quickly removed. Although the bathroom had a fairly modern Jacuzzi tub it appeared old and in one corner were bugs in a web beside the unwrapped plastic cups. I would consider this a health issue and have never been in a hotel or motel that did not have sanitized drinking cups. Also the soap was in pump type containers, great for the home, but not in a public establishment where they can be tampered with. Even the coffee provided was in a Tupperware container rather than sealed packages, I imagine health inspectors don’t concern themselves with small motels. In the morning, I went to discuss our stay with the owner and check out, but no one was home, so we called later and were told basically that’s too bad, but there was nothing they would do. Other than the grounds, I would not recommend this establishment and at $129 per night you would expect much better.

Our family had a great time at the Riverside. Jill is very kind and helpful. Her family of friendly pets, especially Rascal the dog running beside her golfcart with a toy in his mouth is precious. Kelsey the parrot is a riot. The kids were able to hold her and pet her as well. The welcoming smile and friendly attitude Jill has makes all the difference compared to a regular motel.
The rooms are simple and clean. There is a lot of attention to detail such as fresh flowers and a box full of games for the kids. The motel is up to date with both wi-fi and a computer in the office for customers to use. ( we're using it now! ) It is also environmentally friendly.
The grounds are very natural with gardens all over and ponds and a beautiful waterfalls that flows down the river behind the motel into the swimming area. There are air mattress's and tubes available to float along down the river. Jill loaned the kids her own fishing gear and even washed their clothes after they fell into the lake! My son put it all in one sentence, " The place is amazing and Jill is cool." And yes, the campfires are a lot of fun. " We will definately be back.

So, the sign says newly renovated, which in the case of the bathrooms may be partially true. Other than that, the rooms are very average, very basic as far as decor and things like the t.v. and the air conditioner stuck in the window. What I did like was the owner, Jill, who was more than accommodating and a little crazy when it came down to the nightly bonfire! The location is fine, close to the road and it is on a nice piece of property with a cool walking trail down to the swimming area and rapids. The leaves were georgous when we were there around thanksgiving. However, we ran out of hot water after a single bath and had to move to another room. There was only 1 source of heat and that little baseboard heater was not doing the job, since it did snow for 20 minutes and went down to close to zero overnight. Other than the coldness and the lack of hot water and the general decor, I liked it. I would not stay there other than in the summer months because it really feels like a 3 season motel. The pets running around were nice and the fish pond. I think if the owner wasn't so incredibly nice, I would have given it as less than favourable review. I'm sure it's just much nicer to stay there in the summer. Price was $99 for a room with 2 double beds. The bonfire was a nice bonus and a great way to meet people. No hairdryers in the bathroom. We started in room#1 and finished in the 2 bedroom cottage with only an electric fireplace for heat! Man it was cold!!!
