“Great Cotswold Pub”
Reviewed May 27, 2013

We visited the Lamb over May Bank Holiday to celebrate my 60th birthday. The pub is beautifully situated in a picturesque village and the staff were very friendly and welcoming from the outset. Everything was very informal and we were not required to pay any deposit and ran a bar tab which was very convenient. We stayed in the Burford suite at the front of the pub which was perfect - spotlessly clean, comfortable and very large bed. The bar and restaurant are very cosy although perhaps a more varied selection of ales on tap would have made our evening drinking more interesting. The menu was varied and well prepared and our only complaint was that we had to wait nearly an hour to receive our meals on the Saturday even though the restaurant was not busy. We didn't really receive an explanation but it appeared that we had to wait for one particular waitress to take our order who was busy elsewhere. Overall though we would thoroughly recommend The Lamb and enjoyed our break there.

Room Tip: It is worth upgrading to a suite as these are far superior rooms

If you need to be in a town with things to do, Great Rissington is not the place to be. The Lamb Inn is the ONE place for food and drink in town (town consisting of maybe 30 homes) and because of that, you have the pleasure of hanging out with the locals in the small pub at the Lamb.

Don't let the notion of a pub at the Inn scare you. It's a quiet place, with just a handful of tables, friendly people, a hospitable staff and everyone greets one another with a smile. Beyond the pub, there's a more formal dining room that looks onto the back garden.

The rooms are thoughtfully updated, clean, comfortable and offer a great night's rest. It's so quiet, you can hear the birds singing in the morning.

Each room is unique and varies in size. Ours had a small bathroom that had been updated with imagination, taste and simplicity so as to make good use of space.

We spent three nights at the Lamb. Our days we used to explore the Cotswolds by car, and this was as fine a touring base as any.

Bourton on the Water is just 10 minutes away, offering more dining options without having to put up with the bustle of the tourists it attracts.

We were told that many people return to the Lamb Inn year after year, and we believe it.

We have just returned from a lovely stay at The Lamb Inn for a two day break. We had Room One which was perfect and very clean. The food in the restaurant was excellent, great value and the menu was varied offering a good choice. From the moment we walked into the pub we were greeted by friendly bar staff and throughout our stay were made to feel very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. I also noted that there were other people that had returned to the pub which says a lot. The Inn is situated in a perfect location for exploring The Cotswolds and after a day out it was a welcome sight to be able to return to The Inn and chill out in the bar and talk about our day with the locals. Both the staff and locals were always willing to provide advice on places to visit. For anyone wanting to stay at an Inn with character in a lovely location will not be disappointed with The Lamb Inn. We shall definitely be returning soon. Thank-you Paul and your staff for a perfect break.

Room Tip: Rooms on the ground floor by the entrance might be noisy.

The only complaint we had was the hour wait we had for our starters, but when the food came it was outstanding and well worth the money, which we did not find expensive as we had read on on sight. We would certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: Well I think we were booked in to a stable room but on arrival we were give a suite insine the inn w...

Having left the three children being babysat by Granny, us four adults went to the Lamb Inn for some child free adult chill time!
We were not disappointed. Although we only went for a drink there was a nice selction of ales, Battleaxe, and Hobgoblin being top of my list, there was also a locally produced lager and an IPA. Also the usual beer fair of Guiness etc...There were three selctions of the house red and no doubt the same for the white. The staff were friendly and helpful. We were not eating off the menu but what had beenserved around us looked good. There was a good choice of nibbles served behind the bar, roast ox flavoured crisps are a must!!
We thought the sign in the car park, 'Please Park Prettily' was very amusing!
The toilets were clean and tidy.

This inn is overrated, overpriced and run down. How did it get 4 stars from the English Tourist Board? The restaurant meals were mediocre, the breakfast limited in choice. There was no heating on cold evenings or mornings in early May. No hot water at 11.00 p.m. I had to suffer a cold shower and was told that the hot water goes off at 10.00 p.m., but they will put it on if you let them know in advance! We stayed in room 1. The bed was comfortable, but the bathroom very cramped. There was no shelf in the shower and nowhere to hang a towel. If this is a 4 star inn then many of the well known chains would get 5 stars.

Room Tip: Don't choose room 1 if you are tall or if you need space.
