“Fantastic ski trip”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

We were staying at Brown Bear for 4 nights. The chalet was brilliant and the food and service were excellent. The chalet was conveniently located between the various ski areas in the Portes des Soleil, and this was assisted by great transfers and it was also close to the bus. Having only booked two weeks before our trip we were exceptionally lucky to find space for 4 of us in such a great chalet. The only problem is we all wish we were still there!!

I have ummmed and erred over whether to write a report about this little gem of a chalet in one of the best skiing areas in the world. All the guests that shared the chalet agreed that the consequences of writing a glowing report could result in either having trouble getting a booking next year or the cost will go up. But what the heck.......these guys need to be credited for running one hell of a chalet.

Firstly the chalet is exactly as described in the previous reports. My mate Allan and I paid extra for
one of the top floor rooms and compared to other rooms that I had stayed in France this one was positively palatial.

The chalet hosts Rhiannan and Windsor were great and even more impressive was finding out that this was there first season running a chalet. Apparently Run4thealps run a great training programme and it certainly showed. The food was exceptional and presented really well. Copious amounts of wine flowed, and the minibar helped keep the costs down through not having to go into town.

Ian the ski host was a real bonus. We were lucky enough to have him for three of the five days we stayed. All but two of the guests (they were beginners unfortunately) tagged along on his tours, and this certainly helped build a better relationship between the guests. Ian was careful on his choice of runs and always gave options to cater for the various levels of skier. Ian also had strict rules of waiting for the last skier before going up the next lift or waiting at junctions were a wrong turn could be made.

It was great to see 10 year old Kate (the youngest child of a family who had come over from Australia) progress from her first nervy run down a blue, to tackling some really hard reds. She was a real star.

The Frenchies occasionally get some 'dodgy press' from us Brits but I really can't praise them enough on this trip. I will use the first and last episodes of the trip as examples.

Just after picking up our skiis from Ardent Sports in the village, Allan missed the bus that we had to take to get us to the Ardent Bubble. We had some Walkie Talkie problems, and having not really agreed where Allan had to go (it was his first time there) I was worried that we would not meet up, and I also had his skiis. I then went into the Sports 2000 shop in Ardent, and they called the shop that we had hired our skiis from so that I could ask them to go over to the bus stop that Allan was waiting at so that they could tell him where to meet me. Not only did the lovely lady from Ardent Sports do this, but they actually gave Allan a lift in a car up to where I was waiting. Amazing service, so please use this shop to get your ski gear.

On our last day we all decided to ski over in the small but beautiful resort of St Jean D'Aulp. Unfortunately we got stranded over the far side of the area due to a lift that had broken down. Whilst waiting for the lift to be repaired we had lunch to save valuable skiing time. However, at 2.30 pm we decided to give Gina ( one of the owners of Reach4thealps) a call as we were worried that we could miss our taxi transfer back to the airport that evening. After a couple of calls Gina rang back to say that she had organised the ski patrol to give us a ride to the top of the mountain so that we could ski back to the bottom where Gina would be waiting for us. So with dozens of envious eyes boring into our backs, Allan and I were whisked up the mountain on the back of a snowmobile.

The rest of the chalet crew were 'well Jel' when they eventually got back to the chalet to still find us there. We never had the front to tell them that we had made such good time that we had also had spent 30 mins in the Hot tub ( sorry guys if you read this).

So thanks to all at Reach4thealps and all the guests that we were lucky to share the chalet with.

This will be one trip that will be hard to top.

We spent New Year at Brown Bear and as always, it was fantastic. This is our 11th time with Reach4thealps and we have never been disappointed. Gina, Marcus and Jane make sure everything goes smoothly from booking to leaving. Lovely chalet, excellent food, Ian Rhiannan and Windsor were always so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. They even joined in with the New Year's Eve celebrations and forfeit ! The hot tub is just a must at the end of the day. Nothing compares to reach4thealps chalets -Would recommend this to everyone !!

Just stayed 4 nights at Brown Bear. Very impressed with the level of service and comfort. I've stayed in many different ski chalets across the Alps and this is defo one of the best and great value for money. There is really nothing to find fault with this place, very efficient booking process, top class food, most comfortable bed ever on a ski holiday, comfortable & spacious lounge, roomy bedrooms & en-suites, and excellent service from the staff. The location is a bit out of Morzine but in my view better for quick access to the slopes via the Ardent bubble. Many thanks to all the staff for a great short-break; it really felt that nothing was too much trouble. Would defo recommend and return.

Just stayed a weeek at the Brown Bear and it was great. Good food, good accommodation and very good service from Ian, Rhiannan and Windsor. Nothing was too much trouble and Ian's bus service to and from the various slopes was faultless. On returning from a days ski-ing we just called him and, allowing time for a drink of course, he turned up on time every time.
When back to the chalet a delicious 'tea', hot tub and sauna awaiting us followed later by canapes and a first class dinner then an evening in front of the fire. Nothing was too much trouble. The chalet was clean, cosy and well appointed. Couldn't fault it.

usual fantastic service from reach4thealps-effficient airport service(shame we used easyjet which meant a 2 hour queue just to drop off our bags!) clean well serviced chalet, hot tub working except when we let the children go in first & they cooled it down!! Taxi service to the slopes & very patient ski guiding instructor. Chalet staff very understanding of all our various whims & party games!
They even managed to order in some perfect snow conditions - most slopes open that we've had for 5 years!

Stayed here for a week whilst skiing. The lodge had a really cosy feel with a big open fire and lovely rooms with under floor heating. Food was incredible every night, canapés and 3 courses. And great breakfast and afternoon tea and cake after skiing. This is the best place to stay in if you want to ski in the area. Can't fault it any way.
