“Excellent service, food and activities.”
Reviewed November 18, 2013

We stayed here for 2 nights mid October through our booking with socialtours. They were still able to accommodate us despite our reservation just a day before going there. Our plans went up in smoke when we had to take the plane from Lhasa to Kathmandu instead of the road trip because of the unexpected snowstorm.

Our first night, we were given room 301 we extra beds. 5 of us managed to sleep well enough. On the second night, we were at last given a second room for a more comfy stay. The room design is quite quaint. It's a relaxed atmosphere. Bed is comfy. Cleanliness was ok except for the second room. The bathroom was infested with spiders but the good thing was, the staff acted promptly and cleaned everything up right quick.

The food was excellent! Vegetarian dishes for lunch is the usual. Dinner is a mix of local and international cuisine. Breakfast was simple with fruits, eggs and jams. The yogurt was delicious as well as everything else. We stuffed ourselves silly in between the set activities.

The hotel arranged all the activities and were they fun. We arrived in the afternoon of our first day, went for a river walk in the late afternoon and relaxed by the river with the sunset over the jungle as our view. After dinner, we went to the local cultural show. The second day was the highlight with an elephant ride through the jungle in the early morning and elephant bathing during mid morning. After lunch, we went for a jungle walk and got lucky enough to spot a rhino! Then we proceeded to the elephant breeding center and just relaxed after dinner. Third day was set for a boat ride in the early morning and we left the hotel after breakfast.

Loved the experience and would recommend it to those who want to at least catch a glimpse of the wildlife there.

Room Tip: Room 301 has a spacious balcony. Good spot if you have to do laundry.

Hotel parkside is definitely the place to be! The staff go out of their way to ensure your stay is enjoyable! Whilst staying there, I did many activities including a canoe trip, a safari drive, bathing with the elephants and experiencing the boarding schools and orphanages near by. I highly recommend attending this hotel and If I ever go to chitwan again, I won't hesitate to stay here again!

I really loved staying here!! This place has good beds... The shower in room 103 was soooo good!! Loved it and it has hot water too... The food that they served was great and they really looked after us and helped us get on our way. We had 14 people
In our group and they were able to cater for us all... They did a lovely cultural night for us which I thoroughly enjoyed! There is a little grocery store next door so it's great and convenient...

We've just returned from Nepal, which included a 2-day stay at Hotel Parkside (aka Hotel Park Side) in Chitwan National Park. The manager and his family were friendly, competent, dedicated, and accommodating. Food was excellent. The cultural presentation and dancing one evening was impressive - at one point, I was afraid the stick-dancers might "beam" each other if they missed, since they were dancing at a fast clip and hitting the sticks hard! the best part, for me, was the guide, Gopal. He is not only a gentleman and Gentle Man, but superbly knowledgeable about birds, other fauna, flora, and the history of Chitwan National Park and the whole region. Our group was not intended to focus on birding, but I am an avid birdwatcher, so was overwhelmed with Gopal's gracious willingness to take me (and a number of others of us), on special birding jaunts, in between other events. I enjoyed the elephant ride, and saw many birds and other animals on the trip, but, while the others were participating in elephant bathing (where the elephants actually bathe their riders - not the other way round!), Gopal and I continued down the river, where he showed me Lesser Adjutant (biggest bird in Chitwan), Asian Openbill, Jungle Owlet, Spotted Owlet, Creasted Serpent Eagle, good looks at Rufous Treepie, Fulvous-breasted Woodpecker, another elephant bathing all by himself in the river (seemingly having a jolly good time) - and many other species that I may not have seen if Gopal hadn't found the time for extra birding with me. I am grateful for his guiding on my behalf, and recommend Hotel Parkside, and Gopal, to the highest extent possible.

I stayed here with a friend. Everybody was very helpful, the room was clean, the food was great. Our guide Gopal was excellent, very knowledgeable about plants, animals, everything. He knows Chitwan very well, its his back yard! He shows you so many animals, sometimes you get the impression they just show up for him. We had a great time!

When planning a trip, it's hard to know from a few photos where to stay. We were so confused as to what was right after doing a bunch of research that we jumped on a plane and headed to Nepal without booking anything!! hahaha Needless to say, we got lucky. We ended up at a B&B in Bhaktapur (Shiva Guesthouse... amazing service & right on the main car-less square), where the gentleman at the desk told us about the Parkside hotel. Initially I was skeptical, as everyone wants to sell you their friends' B&B, but I searched online again for hours and found that it did actually have one of the best all-inclusive deals and was extremely close to the park (the hotels inside the park were shut down by the government 1 year ago). So.... we gave it a shot & bought the all-inclusive package for 4 days.....

WOW. That's all I can say. We loved every moment of it!!! The rooms were nice, large windows, and with air conditioning (a luxury you really do want in the lowlands of Nepal). The staff was exceptional. The food was good. And we had our own tour guide for the entire 4 days that made sure we had the best of everything. Our guide's name was Gopal, and I can't say enough about him. Aside from being extremely fun, kind, and professional, he has been touring for roughly 30 years and can spot animals that with my naked eye (and exceptional eyesight) I could only pick out as a dot on the horizon. For the time of year we were in, we saw more animals than most people, got to watch rhinos bathe at a lagoon in the middle of the jungle, all 4 types of deer in their forest habitats, crocodiles down the river, and more birds than you can even remember the names of. As this is his passion, he was always able to answer our questions. Plus, he was with us all day long every day. He went above and beyond to make sure we had the experience we desired, and customized the days to our wishes.... meaning he came early in the morning to go visit the nearby baby elephant in a hidden sanctuary that few people (we realized only later) were ever told about. He also gave us time to play with the 2 elephants that our hotel owns and houses on their grounds.

IMPORTANT: Elephants are not always kept in ideal circumstances and cared for by loving people. We were so lucky in that we got to see in our hotel how well elephants can be treated, got to build a small relationship with them in our daily visits whenever we chose, and were able to both ride and bathe with those very same elephants for our tour package. This was extremely lucky given some of the bad experiences other people had.

The family that owns this hotel is also a charming, heartfelt, engaging couple with a very sweet little toddler. They were always around, had warm genuine conversations with us, and went out of their way to help us feel at home. Had we not stayed here, we would not have had the same true cultural experience that came away with. Many people to talked to had more of the stereotypical tourist experience.

Nothing is perfect. But if you're going to Nepal to experience the best that the culture and region has to offer while still having some of the amenities you would want to do it in comfort, we would recommend this hotel wholeheartedly to anyone. Be prepared to be in awe!

Best place we've stayed in Nepal. Very nice and clean rooms and the grounds are very nicely kept up. Service was excellent! Everybody went out of their way to help us out. The food was great too!
Our guide Gopal was the best! He was the most funny, likeable and most knowledgeable guide educating us about the plants, animals and everything in Chitwan National Park. We highly recommend this hotel and will definitely come back to this place.

Room Tip: * This hotel is newly renovated. The owner was adding four more bedrooms while we were staying there...
