“Great Getaway!”
Reviewed December 19, 2012

We are local New Mexicans, but wanted to get away for a night. The Tamaya Resort fit the bill perfectly. Its secluded location and attention to detail made us feel like we were far, far away.

The food at the restaurant/cafe was good, but a bit pricey. The fitness center was well equipped and regularly maintained. I highly recommend a horse back ride through the bosque alond the Rio Grande!

Just a note: For those with allergies or lung issues, the resort does burn incense in the lobby that permeates most of the public spaces.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience, we are delighted you were able to escape with us and you enjoyed your stay! The bosque truly is a beautiful place to explore on horse back and we are so happy you were able to experience this unique part of our resort. Thanks for the feedback on our incense, it is an integral part of the resort experience. We do offer our respire hypoallergenic rooms, so just let us know next time you're with us.

December is not the season for all the activities available at this resort hotel, but it is a great venue for a professional conference. The lobby, restaurant and public areas are all very nice. The rooms are old and a little drab. The bed is comfortable but the sheets are too small to stay tucked in (see picture). There is little room in the bathroom for cosmetics and toiletries. The bath to shower valve leaked and sprayed water. Housekeeping repeated left it in the shower position, so when the water was turned on, one got a cold blast of water from above. New Mexico is very, very dry. As you can see in the picture, Hyatt provides bottle water for Five Dollars apiece. Drive to town and buy your own for $1.29 a gallon. The cafe restaurant was very nice, but expensive. I never tried the main, name restaurant, "The Corn Maiden," but the posted menu showed it to be in the $$$$ category. The in room entertainment system on the TV was poor. Sound was unsteady. I had to sit directly in from of the TV to hear one movie. Other channel were too loud. One movie started then stopped, but the front desk refunded the charge. With so few channels available, I found it strange that Hyatt believe Russian News to be important. The walking trail was wonderful with an exercise parcourse along the way. The gym was first rate. The staff was uniformly friendly, helpful, and courteous.

Arriving at the hotel we were taken back by the beauty and attention to detail. The staff was really friendly and helpful. The ffont desk was a bit busy and clients waited 30 min to check in. Dinner was great, drinks were mediocre and way over priced. The breakfast in the cafe the next morning was good but light on choices. The morning after our first night was rather harsh. Loud banging inside, vacuuming at 8, blackout curtains that didn't black out anything. It would be great to be able to sleep in in peace. It is a nice place but for the money and all the rave they should strive to be an excellent place.

This was my 3rd stay at Tamaya, in association with a conference my husband attends. I am one lucky wife to get to tag along here! The staff is super friendly and helpful; the food is absolutely fabulous -- how they manage to feed 400+ conference attendees and guests delicious, warm food is a talent other hotels should learn! Although their fine-dining restaurant, Corn Maiden, was closed during this stay, we had eaten there previously and loved it. The concierge recommended a nearby restaurant (for our last night), Prairie Star, and it was excellent. The resort has a great 2+ mile walking trail -- made me feel a little less guilty about the great food! The resort is perfectly located too -- 20 minutes from Albuquerque, 40 minutes from Santa Fe. I hope this is one conference my husband keeps attending!

I must say this will be a pleasure to review; I enjoyed our stay at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya from beginning to end. Our check in attendant was very informative and helpful about the variety of activities and options available.

We were lucky to get a room viewing Mount Sandia - it costs a bit more but if possible I would recommend it as the view are breathtaking and sitting at the balcony on a warm day is amazing.

Also, the staff at the restaurants and bar are great - really...all of them very warm!

The rooms are pretty standard in set up. The TV remote was a pain with hard unresponsive buttons.

Breakfast - They have a brilliant spread with fresh cut and whole fruit, pancakes, eggs made to order, sausages, bacon, toast croissants, cheese, salmon, crackers et al. I would go for the buffet breakfast if your hungry.

Lunch/Dinner menu is ok but kind of pricey - portions are huge so order accordingly.

The resort has a whirl pool with deliciously warm water and two pools. One is closed for summer, well it wasnt open when we were there and they are usually heated. They have bikes and a walking trail/track.

They also have a spa - with a jacuzzi and sauna complimentary for guests. I found the spa treatments very pricey though.

Overall we felt very pampered here - the staff seem well trained in ensuring guests take it easy and enjoy the wonderful scenery in NM.

It is a 30 min car ride from Alburquque airport - so if you plan to do some sight seeing factor transport.

We didnt really venture out to see the local town and the nearby casino - check other reviews for that.

One irritating thing is how long the hotel took to eventually charge my account for the bill - almost a week or more to finally debit my account

I will echo the glowing reviews: This is a first rate resort on a beautiful piece of property overlooking the Sandia mountains. It has a golf course, spa, horseback riding, bike trails, pools with water slide (nicely enclosed in a adobe-like structure), restaurants, fire pits (with storytellers and smores program). Even a place for hot-air ballooning.

The spa was great. With rainfall showers, clothing optional uni-sex steam rooms, sauna, hot tub and all the modern treatments you want. Rooms are well done with either patios or balconies. Sunsets were stunning (at least when we were there) and the staff were very helpful and accommodating. Saw a helpful front-desk employee deal very well with a rather demanding guest who needed someone to drive her family from the resort to the Taos ski area on Thanksgiving day.

I was a little worried getting off the highway and seeing busy stores and bumper to bumper traffic but the resort is about 3 miles off the main drag so it was very peaceful. The land is owned by the Santa Ana pueblo and you can think of this as a joint venture between Hyatt and the 700+ members of the pueblo. Wonderful place to relax and let kids run and enjoy themselves. Just don't expect to just stroll to attractions to Santa Fe or Albuquerque -- it's located between the two cities.

Best things: Native American storytelling and smores at night; bread baking in the outdoor oven; amazing scenery; fireplaces in the lobby; reasonable prices in the Santa Ana Cafe and a great 3 course organic Alice Waters menu item for $16.95!

Could use improvement: The bicycles need a serious tune-up and some are not very safe -- especially given that we're riding on gravelly roads.

Of course, this has the standard resort amenities: Portico toiletries, 24-hr fitness center, $20 resort fee that includes wifi and use of facilities, valet parking (free self-parking available), deck chairs (with shade) arranged around the pool (and did I mention the water slide?), games, etc.

All in all -- a great for relaxing or for a family retreat with a native American theme.

Room Tip: Sign up by 3pm for the free smores by the fire pit. Check schedule for a taste of the fresh bread as...
