The is a secluded jewel in the French countryside. Hidden behind moated castle walls lies this little piece of paradise. This was our second visit and again we have the feeling of suddenly joining the French aristocracy. We had a wonderfully furnished and spacious junior suite overlooking the park. Service is of the highest quality and the owners are delightful, caring and make it their business for you to have a stay you will remember. Sitting in the garden on a sunny day remains one of the highlights of any of our stays in France. Watching the peacock being chased back into its sleeping quarters for the night is alone worth the trip. And of course there is the food. The restaurant is of the highest quality and it is a joy to spend an evening eating such amazing food in the open air. We will keep coming back!

We returned to France to visit our favorites of France, one of which was Chateau de Lugny, which we had stayed two years ago. After each trip our group sits down and and rates each hotel/chateau, and since each of the hotels we visited was a 4-5 star hotel, this was a very difficult task. In the end Chateau de Lugny was our number one hotel on our trip, from reception, staff, food, especially owner/management. We would highly recommend this beautiful chateau with outstanding grounds and an outstanding staff and owner/ manager actively at your service.

We have just made reservations for our fifth week-long stay here. As I read some of the reviews, I was sometimes astounded. First, the owner is immensely helpful and pleasant. She has a number of driving itineraries for the area, which is interesting and extensive. We have never run out of new places to go to in our previous four visits. Her staff are professional and friendly. An amuse bouche in the room before dinner is always a treat. The restaurant is outstanding. It was the first place I had epoisse cheese, which is a luxury for me now. We have never run out of other fine places for dinner. The Auberge de Chenet, not five minutes away, is as good as anything we have had in Paris. Ditto the restaurant at the also nearby Ruat des Moulins. Elisabeth at the hotel has also directed us to a small restaurant in the next town over, and it too was outstanding. The room we always request, and stay in, is large, with a large bathroom and windows overlooking the front yard and the donjon. Its bathroom decor is somewhat dated, but this to me is a small thing. The lawn in front of the chateau is large, with lounge chairs and tables, and the livestock are amusing to watch. We now have a lagotto romagnolo, a breed of dog we first saw at the chateau a few years ago. The only reason I am writing this is review is that we have already made our reservations for next September. We have stayed at many luxurious places all over the world, and this is in our top three.

Room Tip: There are no bad ones.

Set within 100 acres with a river , a Donjon, and various livestock and domestic pets, this historic chateau, a mile or two out of Avallon was a perfect overnight stop for us.They have certainly created a homely atmosphere in the luxurious setting. The indoor swimming pool is absolutely fabulous. Our room was beautifully furnished-and glasses of wine with nibbles was delivered soon after our arrival! We found the staff very courteous and friendly and the service was of the highest order. The evening meal was first-rate as was the breakfast (but at 29 euros a head it should be!) Obviously it doesn't come cheap, but I still thought it was good value for moey (except the breakfast)

We stayed one night on our way to Bungudy last week. We had Flavigny Room. It is a great room on its own. The room is very big with a beautiful huge bathroom and walk in closet. The welcome drink was great. The Chateau is nice but not as beautiful as some of the other Chateau hotels in the region.
It is rated as a five star but we think the place is over priced and the service is good but not a five star hotel service. The staff is courteous but not warm. Definitely not like the five stars hotel we have stayed. We feel the most rediculous part of this hotel is they charged 29 euro for breakfast! Because of the location, there is no place else we can go to get coffee and a croissant. So, we are stucked to pay the price.
There is no wifi on site. There is only one computer in the lobby with French keyboard and it is very difficult for typing.
If anyone want to experience what a Chateau is like, maybe you want to consider this one. But, do some extra search, there are plenty of very lovely Chateau in Burgundy with more reasonable price.

Room Tip: If you want to stay in this Chateau, book Flavigny room. It is the biggest and the brightest in thi...

My husband and I just spent two days at the Chateau de Vault de Lugny as part of a hiking vacation -- we walked up all sweaty with our packs and were plunged into wonderful luxury, surrounded by a moat -- wow!

Our room, which was clearly not the most expensive at the chateau, was a large room with a huge fully equipped bathroom (with separate shower) and a dressing room and a walk-in closet, with views of the lawn in front of the chateau. Wonderful!

We loved seeing the peacocks, geese, turkeys, and guineas that have already been mentioned (though we didn't see the goat mentioned on the website). The donjon tower is great.

We had two dinners at the chateau and enjoyed each one. The foie gras soup and creme brulee mentioned by another reviewer were amazing, and the second night my husband told the waiter that he'd just had the best desert of his life and the waiter said he agreed. The staff do speak perfect English but they're willing to speak French to you if you like!

Wifi is available only in the lobby and bar area, unfortunately, but we made it work.

There's also a beautiful indoor pool, but unfortunately we had not brought our suits!
