Set within 100 acres with a river , a Donjon, and various livestock and domestic pets, this historic chateau, a mile or two out of Avallon was a perfect overnight stop for us.They have certainly created a homely atmosphere in the luxurious setting. The indoor swimming pool is absolutely fabulous. Our room was beautifully furnished-and glasses of wine with nibbles was delivered soon after our arrival! We found the staff very courteous and friendly and the service was of the highest order. The evening meal was first-rate as was the breakfast (but at 29 euros a head it should be!) Obviously it doesn't come cheap, but I still thought it was good value for moey (except the breakfast)

We stayed one night on our way to Bungudy last week. We had Flavigny Room. It is a great room on its own. The room is very big with a beautiful huge bathroom and walk in closet. The welcome drink was great. The Chateau is nice but not as beautiful as some of the other Chateau hotels in the region.
It is rated as a five star but we think the place is over priced and the service is good but not a five star hotel service. The staff is courteous but not warm. Definitely not like the five stars hotel we have stayed. We feel the most rediculous part of this hotel is they charged 29 euro for breakfast! Because of the location, there is no place else we can go to get coffee and a croissant. So, we are stucked to pay the price.
There is no wifi on site. There is only one computer in the lobby with French keyboard and it is very difficult for typing.
If anyone want to experience what a Chateau is like, maybe you want to consider this one. But, do some extra search, there are plenty of very lovely Chateau in Burgundy with more reasonable price.

Room Tip: If you want to stay in this Chateau, book Flavigny room. It is the biggest and the brightest in thi...

My husband and I just spent two days at the Chateau de Vault de Lugny as part of a hiking vacation -- we walked up all sweaty with our packs and were plunged into wonderful luxury, surrounded by a moat -- wow!

Our room, which was clearly not the most expensive at the chateau, was a large room with a huge fully equipped bathroom (with separate shower) and a dressing room and a walk-in closet, with views of the lawn in front of the chateau. Wonderful!

We loved seeing the peacocks, geese, turkeys, and guineas that have already been mentioned (though we didn't see the goat mentioned on the website). The donjon tower is great.

We had two dinners at the chateau and enjoyed each one. The foie gras soup and creme brulee mentioned by another reviewer were amazing, and the second night my husband told the waiter that he'd just had the best desert of his life and the waiter said he agreed. The staff do speak perfect English but they're willing to speak French to you if you like!

Wifi is available only in the lobby and bar area, unfortunately, but we made it work.

There's also a beautiful indoor pool, but unfortunately we had not brought our suits!

My wife and I visited this establishment during our honeymoon in France during the summer of 2011. The service, grounds, rooms and staff are absolutely top notch. I had perhaps the finest meal of my life at their restaurant.
The charm of this wonderful chateau is almost beyond description. The animals on the ground provide constant entertainment. One of my most cherished memories was watching the head peacock square off against the turkeys under the great tree during a rainstorm. Though it was close, the peacock won against 3 turkeys. Magical.
The pool in the ancient basement is delightful.

All this said, you are paying a premium to stay on wonderful grounds, receive absolutely top notch service from all the staff and eat fantastic food. This is a very expensive place. We believe that, for a special trip/occasion, the cost is well worth it.

All I can really say is thank you to the staff for providing us with perhaps the most memorable stay of our entire honeymoon.

We stayed at the chateau as part of a Backroads trip through Burgundy, and it met all of the high standards that we've come to expect from Backroads. We had a lovely (and very large) room overlooking the front lawn, and it was delightful to hear the honking geese and drumming turkey in the evening. (I'm not quite sure what noise the peacock makes). A nice wine selection in bar, as you would expect, and although the wine list ran the gamut, we had a very reasonable white burgundy (I think for about 30 euros). I did wander by to see the indoor pool, which is worth a peek with its grotto-like feel. As I read the other reviews, I'm pleasantly surprised that our really outstanding meals were covered in the Backroads trip price so as not to experience the same kind of sticker shock. I agree with others that there are little dining options around, so you might be stuck with an expensive dinner, but stay one night and you'll enjoy the charming ambience of the property.

A great place to stay to visit this part of Bourgogne.
Wonderful park, nice old charm chateau, excellent and very friendly staff.
Modern life seems far away (and no mobile internet), history very present,no stress around.
An immens plane tree dating form 1620(!) gives the perfect inspiration for planning excursions or just watch the day go by.

Nothing wrond with the food, but plenty of better options in less then half an hour drive.
Given the price (EUR 350 per room per night, excluding taxes and breakfast) the bathroom is not acceptable (pinkhish renovation dating back from probably mid eighties) and rather average room.

Nice indoor pool (pity for summer), but no gym.
