a very good choice, along a busy road. charming dining room, awesome food, great service. Also got a very good wine tip -- a bottle of Irancy, a West Burgundy red.

“Great serendipity”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2012

My daughter and I had decided that we would simply 'get lucky' and stumble upon a great place for lunch that Friday...and we came upon this restaurant ~~and my wife, 2 daughters and I still talk about how it was one of the 2-3 best meals any of us had ever had--anywhere-- till then--or since! Beautiful service;perfect friendly presentation, superb local choices....unbeatable value.

“The best food in France!!!!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 1, 2011

This was a true dining experience. Lovely atmosphere and wonderful staff. Elegant restaurant with a very warm feeling. From the moment we walked in, we knew this was going to be great. The food and wine were delicious. We were so fortunate to have dined in this wonderful establishment. Of all the restaurants we dined in while in France, this was by far the best.

“A Real Burgundian Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2011

Auberge des Chenets is a beautiful restaurant on the Route National outside Avallon. In the winter there is a large fire which makes it a cosy place. The decor is traditional and you will enjoy a true Burgundian exeprience.

Madame is professional and charming and her asisstant excellent. We have been many times and the food has always been mouthwatering. This is true value for money. The lower-priced menu normally has Coq-au-vin on it during the winter months. Although this is a very traditional dish, it is hard to find in restaurants these days. My husband orders it every time in the winter! The foie gras is well worth ordering and, yes the bread flutes are very eatable! The wine list is small but offers great choice nonetheless and it is the first place in Burgundy where I have had a Bandol - a wine from the South that you should try. I thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

“What a surprise!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2011

We did not expect much visiting this restaurant, and were amazed by the lovely atmosphere, warm wellcome, pleasant service and very good food (you must ask for the soufflè, you will not be sorry!). Oh, and one must not forget the bread flutes served with the wonderful butter-a sinful combination that will be remembered for a very long time...
Best choice for the over night visitors of this area.
