Burghaus Kronenburg
Ranked #3 of 3 Kronenburg B&B and Inns

My group of 50 just left Kronenburg after a 3 night stay. We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel. Breakfast was excellent. We arranged a dinner buffet that was good but not outstanding. The rooms are very nice with good water pressure, great views and comfortable beds. The village of Kronenburg is small but beautiful. Our group over spilled into the Villa Kronenburg hotel which was equally nice.

Areas for improvement are TV channels (few channels, all scratchy) and the friendliness of the staff (the staff were helpful and competent but a little more reserved than at some of the other hotels on our trip). Also, the wifi coverage was limited to one room and was slow with more than 2 people signed on.

We had a very nice stay at Schlosshotel Burghaus Kronenburg, located at the foot of the ruins of an old castle in the German upland called Eifel. The oldest hotel buildings date from the 18th century and it's located on a small square. The town Kronenburg is basically one long street with old white houses, the hotel is at the end of that street. From the terrace of the hotel you have a beautiful view of the lake and the hills of the Eifel. The room was very spacious, complete with four poster bed and a comfortable seat. The bathroom was also very spacious, with (angular) bathtub and massage shower cabin. One can argue about the color of the tiles in the bathroom. The reception was very welcoming, we were given a tour of the entire hotel. The breakfast was very generous, complete with salmon and bubles (brut). There was a nice swimming pool and wellness facilities. Parking at the hotel is tight. We found it no problem to park the car in the P-place before the town (250m walk)

We went there for a romantic arrangement last week. The surroundings are really charming, I'd say a perfect spot for such a hotel. In the village itself down the road is not much to do, unless it is nice and sunny. The service was very friendly, the room very clean and cosy with nice furniture. Nevertheless, I would not give the room 4 stars, many things are missing. The breakfast in the tasteful Orangerie was really good but is unfortunately not included in the price. We didn't eat in the restaurant of the hotel but it seems to be amazing and it was lovely furnished.

Bottom line: we enjoyed our stay very much and visited among others the really nice city of Trier. Even though it was raining most of the time, the beautiful surroundings really made up for it. We thought 140.- night is a bit too expensive for what you really get but still it's a nice romantic getaway.

we went to look and check out the Christmas package, on arrival coffee was served while we waited, the rooms are very nice we had a double booking. 4 people 2 rooms , we received a bit of paper with hand written figures. nothing else, unfortunately I broke my leg, went back to see if we could get one room with no steps. not possible OK. still no more paperwork . the following week I was admitted to hospital with complications, we gave the Hotel 3 weeks warning , they insisted we pay full price as we cancelled, as I said no paperwork, only our scrap piece. WE left it to insurance BUT, I feel it is unfair as they had plenty of time to re let the rooms, which they did. We felt it was very pretentious and disapointing attitude.

Room Tip: Go and see the rooms, check for stairs especially for older people

It was 4 of us going there in February 2012, with a groupon voucher. We arrived late (23ish) and the owner was very welcoming and stay awake late for us (nice detail). From the first moment we had the impression that all he wanted to do was make us eat at his restaurant (breakfast, dinner, whatever he could fit in) because that wasn't included in the groupon voucher. We saw the price of the restaurant, who was supposed to be a gourmet one and decided to go always somewhere else. We live in Brussels so if we want to have a Michelin star experience we have plenty of choice, so no need that weekend. Next day at dinner time the owner was also insisting on us having dinner there, but we asked him for another restaurant close by, he told us the closest one open that he knew of was 30km away. We took the car, and in the very same town of the hotel, like 2 km away there were a couple of restaurants open, we ate in one of them and it was GREAT!

Other than that, rooms are kind of nice but missing a bit of comfort. For example, bed was not very comfortable, in our room the bathroom had the ceiling on top of it so you could not take a shower because you couldn't stand up. Amenities were not that great, wi-fi connection was very poor signal and just one device could be connected at a time... and the number of channels in the TV was 9 (not high for what it is supposed to be a luxury hotel)

I found everything was overpriced for the quality they were offering and certainly will not go back.

I upped my rating to a 4 only because of the wonderful restaurant in this remote rather funky yet somewhat charming hotel. Although expensive, dinner in the restaurant was the best thing about this hill top recently restored old hotel. If you like nature walks and spending $150 or more per night on a room - or you just really really want to be in this part of the Eisel in Germany, by all means this might be the place for you. But the little things are missing here. Like a place to put your suitcase (except on the floor) and a place to hang up anything including a coat. But yet the rooms are mostly all recently redone and the bathrooms were exquisite with expensive marble floors and walls. But I would rather have a good mattress than marble floors in the bathroom. Be sure and ask for a room on one level unless you want to bang around in a huge space that is mostly unused and have the bedroom upstairs with no windows except for a skylight and the TV with a two person sofa downstairs. The "Wellness Center" is just a private space that you can reserve for 1.5 hours with a sauna and a big non-jacuzzi tub. But the evening meal in the lovely restaurant there was fab (and worth the $$$$) and the breakfasts were better than the usual fare at European hotels. The location is charming if you like nice scenery and hill towns with old brick/stone buildings, a castle ruin, and one very very narrow one way street. If you are traveling through this part of Germany deliberately and want a nice albeit expensive hotel room with a great dinner then this is the place for you. Don't go in the winter when there is snow and/or ice or you will never get up or down the hill without risking your life. Oh, we happened to be able to overhear the couple in the next room so it would appear as if the nature of the walls that separate rooms have not lost their antique quality. But overall, we were not too disappointed. As I said, thank goodness for the restaurant there.

Room Tip: Unless there are three of you and you need an extra bed in a nook adjacent to the main bed - in a s...

Very pleasant atmosphere, wonderful room with romantic double bed, excellent restaurant and very friendly and helpfull staff. The village and environment complete the rest of your pleasant stay. We booked a Groupon deal, but the normal price without discount would be a bit over the top.
